The fountain of youth has run out for Joe Pa.

Too soon?

Ok. Sorry. RIP.

O'brien should watch that to get himself up to speed on the Penn State family.

I've heard numerous reports that alums and boosters are upset because he doesn't "get" the culture of Penn State and isn't a Penn State guy. Basically, I've heard they are not going to support him or worse--try to sabotage.

What they don't seem (or want) to understand is going outside that cluster fuck is exactly the point of hiring someone like O'brien. A fresh start to clean house--and try and repair the image of the EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION that just happens to have a game played on its grounds.
Yeah, I wager it has more to do with sponsorship at this point. Penn State basically made the entire Miami, Ohio State and every other school scandal go away.

I was kind of disappointed O'Brien took the job since I don't think he really deserves that clusterfuck.

Apparently defiance is a Joe Paterno/Kid-rape supporter.

That's pretty reprehensible really.

Joe Pa and the fall of the Penn State program reminds me alot of the Enron upper management that committed suicide. They put their jobs ahead of their personal integrity.

"It is hard to look at your lifes work and say "its failed", but you have to take a long, hard look at yourself. Who was I? What did I become?----and realize that you may have seen your shadow."

If the allegations are true, he's not a hero. He's a monster.

Actually, it's not just the kids. The former players letter that was circulated to the press. Here are the former players..

Former alums that went to protest Penn State at the Nebraska-PSU game were subjected to abuse.

There are lots of alums that have their heads on right, but there appears to be a ton in the Joe Pa House of Worship that do not. It's really bad.

That's because fans are idiots. Football is a game. The university and the kids is the ONLY thing that is relevent. The Joe Pa worship is pathetic.

As I'm sure you already know, a college is a brand just like any other brand. ALthough I would argue that it's even more important than the brand of a corporation because there you're buying a product or a service, not the company. Whereas at a university, you're really BECOMING part of it, not just using its product. You've bought into a network of people and an expectation that others feel a certain way about the education/institution that you've received. Your name is your most important asset, and right now, the majority of the nation thinks "child rape cover up" when they see anything Penn State related. If I'm investing $200,000 in an education, or an alum, I would be flat out disgusted. Their main "advertising platform" is sports on television, and yet they have to see pedobear prancing around. I go into a job interview and the HR person sees Penn State and thinks "child rape". Even if they don't come out and say anything about it, it's on everyones mind every time Penn State is brought up.

Every head should roll from Joe Pa to the AD to the President. They are not bigger than the prestige of the institution.

Just like the Fab 5 at Michigan, the university needs to distance itself in every way (and that was far less egregious than what transpired at Penn State---in my opinion, child rape is basically the single worst crime)

Their legacy should be *erased* entirely.

The most succinct explanation I've heard for why it was okay to fire Joe Pa:

Due process protects you in court, it doesn't protect your job.

Penn State fans are delusional, and there are still tons of people who can't seem to comprehend grand jury testimony about what he knew. He admitted he was aware of inappropriate behavior between Sandusky and children, but ipso facto still let him on the staff, use the facilities, have an office, etc.

Penn State should not have even went to a bowl game. If I was an alumni donor I'd be quite upset and pull my funding to the university. The institution is about learning, not football, and right now, Penn State conjures up terrible imagery.
