Get the Asus 120hz. Definitely better than the BenQ. Although I have played with the Alienware, nice stuff, but overpriced.

I ended up opting for a non-120hz monitor until the new nvidia 600 series comes out.

Truth be told, I would hold off on the 120hz until they become more mainstream and get better panels. They just didn't do it for me.

I use an Asus VE258Q for my gaming system at home, and 3x HP ZR24w for the office. Gotta love 16:10 and the amazing colors.

the XL2420T is hands down the best monitor i have ever used.

Its worth the amount of cash you have to pay. The only couple things, is that, expect to tweak the color, aspect ratio and all the settings to your personal preference. Otherwise, your'e not getting the whole experience of the monitor, the profiling option makes this easy as hell to, so its a pretty solid deal. AND it took me a solid 25 minutes to actually adjust to 120 hertz, however i have used it before on a crt so i was already somewhat adjusted to it.

For gaming, the colors are a bit washed out but not bad.
Well yeah, I don't think you can go into it hoping to find the color reproduction in a $400 gaming monitor that you would in a $1200 professional IPS monitor.

You sacrifice color reproduction for response time and gaming performance, which is what this system will be used for (all my work stuff is done on a macbook as well).

Without looking at the specs, I'd take biggies word on it.
Well, it ends up the XL2410T retails around $370 USD.. and the XL2420T retails another $100 USD higher than that.

Also, I use this monitor and I have no complaints.

If you buy an 3d screen you better buy a 3d supported nvidia card and goggles.

PS. Alienware is overpriced decent shit with a cool brand.

Good to know, I do like the idea of the "black eQualizer" on the XL2420T. I also didn't realize that it's actually quite a bit cheaper than the older Alienware one is right now.

No problems so far, no dead pixels. I got mine just after this xmas that passed. One youtube I watched said the default colours were a little weird and they played it with for a bit to get it to look right, but I havent touched mine and they look fine.

Had any problems with it? I read a bunch of reviews about picture quality vs the Alienware, and dead pixels issues. The limited reviews out there for the new one are pretty flawless though.

Way better.

Also, it's not so much that my budget is unlimited, it's not. I'de like to keep the whole build under $1500, I'm just willing to spend a bigger chunk on the monitor.

120Hz monitors (NSFW)

by Sears » Wed Feb 15, 2012 4:46 pm

I'm starting to look at stuff for putting together a new system, and I'm wondering if anyone has a 120Hz monitor and what their experience has been. I have really sensitive eyes, and had a hard time adjusting to the difference between my old 100Hz CRT to a 60Hz LCD, and it caused a lot of eye-strain resulting in me having to get glasses. So, I'm pretty dead set on upgrading to a 120hz with this build. Price isn't that much of an issue, as I'm willing to spend up to $500 on a monitor.

I've pretty much narrowed it down between the Alienware OptX AW2310, which got a lot better reviews than the BenQ XL2410t, or the new upgraded BenQ XL2420t (which just came out).

Anyone have one of these or have any thoughts/advice on the matter?
