I feel their pain. My 1.6 Ghz POS crashes DoD on a regular basis.

it all depends on who you asked. In this case, Defiance's other job as a DoD Ambassador, has worked out nicely.
not really, almost anyone who plays dod would have either ignored it if they wanted to be a douche, or attempted to give an answer to this type of question. its legitimate, and it isnt asked in a "hey i demand answers because fuck you" way like most people tend to ask anymore.

I went to the google machine using jules' quietHDD program to figure this out, hope it helps. Raptor is the player with the problem if you haven't figured it out.

Apparently seagates hard drives are really awful, and have a problem with writing small chunks of data.

QuietHDD might fix it, so download that, then try this:

1) set the seek to a lower value.. (very vague, the internet isn't good at directions apparently)

2)i found this from a CS player having the same issue on the ESEA site. He said to set the sliders exactly like this.

Did you buy it brand new? I could say my computer is 1 year old but I bought it from John Doe who had it for 3 years and it was a refurb. when he bought it. I don't record demos cause I'm shitty and don't get disputed.

What program does he record with?
I´ve been using Fraps,Dxtory,Bandicam, and now HLAE to record demos.. With HLAE I never loose a single fps when I record.

Yesterday I found a Guide:How to use HLAE
Make sure you have enough room in the HDD. A 21sek clip had like 5gb. I use a 2tb extern and there it´s no problem :D

What hardware do he have? CPU, GPU?

if its only a year old it 90% sure wont be running below 5200rpm, probably a 5400rpm drive. maybe a 7200rpm drive. bet its a seagate drive. pos fucking things.

what laptop is it? brand/model

ps: googled the quiethdd thing, seems setting the seek to a lower value to help the performance with that program.

Tell him to download that. He will need to run it and change only ONE setting before he plays in order to have his game not skip. I had to use it, because I used to play on a laptop that would give me the same problem that you described. Unfortunately, I forgot what setting it was. :( He can try googling "cs 1.6 quiethdd" or something and figure it out. Sorry, I can't remember the setting.

Toggle off :P

Lower FPS?
VSYNC?

Get a HD Speed Test to see the actual read/write speeds.

So we just got this new team to join TPG for open, a pub clan. One of their players has a really old computer, I am guessing. Whenever he starts recording a demo it makes his game skip like every 5 seconds. They said he has a hard drive with like 4k write speeds or something.

Any thoughts to fix this?
