Most of that came in a DIY Kit, totaling in 67 dollars worth in a combo discount, 50 MIR -- so after the MIR it will be 757.55, including a newegg 1 year warranty covering the motherboard and processor (just in case).

I know to buy the 64 bit windows (probably OEM, since this upgrade took me 8 years I doubt I'll upgrade again before a new version of windows anyway)

pretty much, they use subpar parts and generally shitty cases. they are building with the cheapest components they can find, regardless of the quality. pretty much HP builds marketed for gaming. fucking garbage.

get a solid case with good air flow. antec 700s or coolermaster HAFs are awesome mid towers with great airflow. lian li is cheaper now, but so is the quality. i was saddened when i learned that. used to be some awesome cases from them.

either way, 64bit OS is the way to go period anymore. more and more programs are being written to take advantage of the 64bit route, so its kinda silly to put yourself knowingly behind the tech curve hoping to last 5 years.

i might go through newegg and build you a system that would be decent later. depends on how lazy i feel.

ibuypower also makes shit. Hence, why it is "cheaper."

i could run sc2(not well mind you) on my old comp that had a single core AMD 3200+ 64 cpu, and a 7600gs AGP. you can run pretty much any game with duel core and a decent PCI-E card. you just have to turn the gfx down. if your like me, playing at maxed settings is something you could give a fuck about, you just want it to play smooth.

i have a phenom II x4 and a 4890gpu, i havent found a game i cant play and my whole comp cost around 800 in January.

basically, AMD is the way to go if your looking for cheaper performance, just like they where 10 years ago.

also, fuck seagate drives. western digital is a much more reliable company.

ibuypower builds are cheaper on newegg than this, and i don't necessarily need a ridiculous comp

AMD and nvidia is about the same perfomance / price. AMD´s crossfire scaling is better than Nvidias SLI scaling.

edit; The new 500 series got about the same heat / watt as AMD got.

Why nvidia? Ati is still pretty far ahead as far as performance value last I heard.

Anything Apple is totally cool and hipster too, you'll have to confirm that with alexkirk first though.

Well, after putting in 100 hours over the past 2 weeks at work, with another 52 this coming week, I feel like it's finally time to get a new computer. I'll be putting it down on a card, but I still want to keep it under 1000, preferably in the 800-900 range. I'll probably play some of the newer games, but really I just want a computer that's going to last me another 5 years before I have to upgrade again when the new day of defeat comes out* I've looked into video cards and I'm pretty set on Nvidia -- an SLI ready mobo would be nice just for the simple fact that I can upgrade easily. I've dealt with my radeon x300 for way too long. I've already got someone from the source community helping me out but I figure I'll take suggestions here on the computer, headsets, etc. I do have a small hard drive, so include that in the build [internal or external], I have the crappiest sound card and I think it's actually damaged [port wise], and I'd like a good number of USB ports [have 6 on this Dell 8400]. Also, when I do have a computer that doesn't run at 60 fps with a headset that doesn't take in every sound on the map at any given time causing a clusterfuck of sound, pick me up :)
