The floating numbers on screen double as a cutscene for persona:revelations for ps1. That's right.

Yea my laptop that I got from school was just like that, I didn't know you could force it to a special video mode through launch options though. You learn something new everyday.

Thanks alot! this made my game start like normal.
My laptop had the exact opposite issue. Before it would work in opengl, I had to launch the game in software or D3D, THEN switch to OpenGL... weird.

This actually happened to me last night. My game was trying to open in software mode and it just wasn't happening. All I did was, open up hlae(movie making program) and ran day of defeat through that to force it into opengl and then re-opened day of defeat and it was fixed or you can do what Ricky said but it I'm 99% sure you want to put -gl into it.

I have tried putting the "-w 800 -h 600" in launch options and reinstalling the game and steam with no success.. When I try to start dod or counter strike 1.6 I get the small background picture that you see right when the game is about to load but then I get sent back to my desktop, I went into the dod folder and found these crash logs.

I have tried googling the crash logs but nothing there fits my problem and reinstalling the video drivers is not working either.

Have anyone else run into this problem before and if, how do I fix this?
download debugging tools for windows, open windbg and configure symbols by adding the msdn symbol server (SRV*your local symbol folder*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols). open a crash dump, select one of those files. in the command line type, !analyze -v. the faulting module listed should point you to video or sound drivers or something that you can try updating or rolling back.
