The guy in that video is actually wrong. The reason all the hype is made is because the Mayan long count doesn't go above 13 b'ak'tun, making December 21st the day which the calendar actually resets to 0.0.0.0.0 , and for some reason our civilization fears zeros. Actually, the Mayans did have a digit going above the b'ak'tun, but it so rarely used that it is left out. So in reality December 21st is just 1.0.0.0.0.0 meaning just another day.

For being such a shitty civilization they had an extremely accurate understanding of the movements of the planets and their moons. Take a look at some of their work and you'll be mind-blown at some of the things they calculated without today's technology.
