Looks like they took DayZ and changed some aspects. Been in the works for a year I believe. Should be kinda fun due to the fact that you can group easily with friends, and its free to play after the initial purchase.
It's an MMO. It will be catered to casual players, as that is where the money is at in regards to them. DayZ is hardcore to the max and the lack of hand-holding turns away most of those types of players. I will be sticking with DayZ, especially once it goes standalone.

Also, check out the track record of the company behind WarZ. Not exactly breathtaking.
Lol, I think you're believeing I was expecting some ground-breaking game. You can easily tell its not as hardcore as DayZ, but looks just as fun to me. I doubt they're looking to make tons of money, but simply testing a market since they already admitted they're using another companies software.

Crouchwalk / prone will help in avoiding them, as well as using weapons that make less noise. As for maps, you have to loot a map in order to use it. Same applies to watches, compasses, GPS, NVGs, matches, hatchets, knives, etc. Hatchets are typically found in industrial areas. Common weapons can be found in the grocery store, barns, military tents, and residential areas. Military grade weapons (ie. M16s, AKs, etc) are found in military tents and airfields.

When you are first spawning, most people will go to the main cities like Cherno or Elektro to gear up. It's possible to head up north and hit up the smaller towns, but you will be taking a big risk without having plenty of medical supplies, food, water, and a decent weapon. These can all be found in the two cities I mentioned. Failure to acquire morphine will result in an unforseen broken leg in the middle of bumfuck egypt and only being able to crawl.

EDIT: http://dayzdb.com/map <--- if you have a second monitor or a tablet (or hell, even a phone, theres an app for that) you can use this while you play. Alternatively, you can alt-tab, but that may take awhile.

Hop in our vent its in one of the previous posts you can run around with us and kinda pick things up as we go along

Just keep in mind that it is a mod for a military simulator. You won't be getting CoD-like gameplay. You will however get satisfaction in taking out other players using group tactics, maneuver, and communication. Most of the time people will actually die when you light them up, regardless of which gun you are using. One of the most common guns (the Lee-Enfield bolt action) kills in one shot. The question you have to ask yourself before using it is: do I really want to attract every zombie in a 2 mile radius by using it

I have this, didn't know that the dod community had such a big group goin on. i know sloth plays it as well. Games awesome if you are thinking about buying it, very very addicting. One problem though is the feel of the game, very different and takes a little getting used to. Worth the 20$ i paid on for it on steam.

That is why we roll with a group in vent and kill everyone else we see. Someone you think is helpful will turn around and shoot you in the back to get that nice shiny .50 cal you have. TBH I would have shot you too....it's safer to just kill and move on than have to watch your back 24/7.
Yeah, you pretty much have to kill everything you see. When they had special skins for PK'ers everyone bitched about getting it through self-defence against actual bandits, then getting shot on sight by survivors they had no intention of harming. But now _everyone_ gets shot on sight because you have no clue who the bandits are, even the "fake" ones. Some improvement.

It's tough to ride solo, too, even when you're geared up a bit. Once you get in a group of 4 or 5 or more you're in pretty good shape; that's enough for a sniper and spotter team to overwatch, a sentry to check their flanks and a few others to raid the town/city/airfield/camp.

TBH the zombies aren't that bad. You can also ditch aggro a lot easier by running into a building. Zombies cannot run inside buildings. If there's a separate exit just run out that one and you will be clear. You can get an M1911 or a revolver pretty easily and they kill zombies in one shot, or just aim for the head. You could also just run next to another player and drop your aggro on them lol.

you start near the shore with pretty much nothing but a bandage and some pain killers, your objective is to is to loot what you can (canned foods/different drinks) its always good to find medical supply (blood bags for transfusions/morphine/bandages/painkillers) so pretty much everything to keep your guy in good health, after you get some items that is if someone hasn't robbed you and stole your shit players make their way inland and venture off to find military camps ect for military grade weapons some items are harder to find than others (night vision/gillie suits/suppressed weapons) we usualy gear up to this point and kill those who are trying to do what we just did or shoot kids trying to make their way into the most obvious loot spots (grocery stores/schools/hospitals/churches) but that doesn't last for long because biggie ends up shooting us on accident.

the whole clip getting unloaded was just bad timing the server crashed seconds after it had like 50 people in it. based on other games like counter-strike its just a realistic as them as far as how many bullets it takes to kill someone in good health.

thanks for info, much appreciated. I see a few other new games coming out that are like this. I dunno if there was anything like this before, but it seems it's its own genre now. Cool stuff

Re: if you're looking for something to do

by ward » Thu Jul 19, 2012 8:59 pm

Weapon damage is ultra realistic like Arma 2. Most sniper rifles kill in one shot. My M16 that I currently have kills in 3-4. The big problem that comes up is that you can bleed, which causes you to slowly lose blood. You start with 12k blood, and if it falls below 9k, you have a chance to get knocked out. Below 3k, you will randomly pass out. Only way to get blood back is to either receive a transfusion from another player or eat food (which only restores 300 for a can of beans or 800 for a cooked steak made from animals you kill).

Also, zombies can make you bleed, and players can break your legs with bullets (meaning you can only crawl). You need morphine to fix broken legs, and it's only found in hospitals or medical tents or on dead players. The zombie apocalypse is a bitch :D
