Best option is get a MRI done on it, I had a ACL and PCL tear for my ligaments within my right knee. The only way they could tell such was from the MRI. Also one other important thing if its a ligament like I said, blood flow to the ACL and PCL is not as great as the rest of the ligaments within your knee for how small they are and how closely they are to the bone itself where that microscopic surgury maybe required or else it could be perminent damage. Im just pointing out to what I had, and that it could be related so you should get a MRI done if you can.

I'm having my first within the next couple of weeks Polak, and let me tell you, the build up is the crappiest part haha, DoD is almost 10 years of my life too, and i had absolutely no idea about being a father until you hear those "i'm pregnant" words... After that its like the nervous excitement before your birthday, or a big trip, or Christmas.

Don't start experimenting with pills for different things until you find a solution. You might start fucking your liver or whatever.

You must be stressed about being a father soon. I know this because you are asking 1911 help for your knees. LOL good luck and seriously just get a MRI.
I'm a tightwad. If I can save some money on a visit/prescriptions and just try some over-the-counter supplements, I'm going to try that first. I don't consider it experimental when I looked at what was suggested, and be damned that's what its used for.

This is my second time around being a father, and there's really not much stress after you've already had a boy. We saved all the clothes and toys from when my son was born, so there's a lot of saved expense. I'm an old bastard compared to most of the community.

It could be that my cartilage is just gone, and they don't do any type of knee replacements at 31. They don't last long enough and would require a 2nd knee replacement later in life. Years of sports, and then punishing them at work for the last 10 years (I kneel on metal platforms and repair locomotives). Guess that's what I get, knee pain!
Oh I thought you said you have awesome insurance. I personally don't have any co-pays and I don't pay for any medication. So yeah I would of used that shit. Looking at what is suggested is one thing but doing a self diagnoses is stupid. Those are the people who get a stomach ache that lasts for two months and refuse to go to a doctor for some retarded reason. Next thing you know the cancer has spread all over the place (not your case, but its an example). If you are having knee problems now, get it checked out! Next thing you know it will get worse.

Anyway, you mention that you're on your knees all the time during work *chuckle*, shouldn't you be wearing knee pads?

Having a second knee replacement surgery is fine. Because of sports, surgery for joints, knees, ankles, backs are way up there when it comes to success rate. I don't even know how they do it. Don't be worried. Get it fully checked out. Spending a few dollars on yourself is never a poor investment, especially when it comes to your health.

Oh and hatmaker, you are a pharmacist at best correct? I'm sure you have a great medical opinion, but that's what it is. I want the guy to get all his facts! :o
Thanks for the good wishes. I pay $200/mo. for my family insurance, and my copays for specialists are $35, and everything else is cheaper. My prescriptions cost $20 at most, so that really isn't too bad either. What's new on this union contract is that we have an out of pocket maximum for costs like lab work and so on. Either way, most peoples' insurance pales in comparison to mine. Fuck you about the whole jab about being on my knees at work

I understand self diagnosis can sometimes be a dumb thing to do, but in this case I can tell its specifically the joint, and with the pain coming and going, that it shouldn't be THAT big of a concern(although the pain rates up to about a 7 at times). I was actually looking for a reply that Hatemaker proposed, which from the very beginning, he mentioned that he didn't want to speculate what was wrong. Through this thread, I actually found a guy at work that takes the same stuff for his joint pain, and he noted that someone he's friends with actually had cartilage regeneration in his neck. All of that proven through multiple MRIs. So I'll try that supplement for a few months and see if there's any improvement, because I honestly believe it would be something my orthopedic doctor would recommend anyway, and the stuff is only $0.08 per pill.

Kids, you'll have them when you're ready. They're the greatest thing thats ever happened to me, it's really unexplainable until you have your own. Best of luck to you too man!

I have sciatica and depending where on the nerve in the vertibrae the pressure is, it can hurt from the lower back, through the hip and down into the thigh, knee all the way down to the lower calf. get a physio consult and get your xrays. they will tell you whats up.

about the leg thing, i have FB and 1911 open at the same time and figure it was funny.

and yes stealth, you got me, im a total douche. your right. gratz. whats that got to do with this post :?:

I have good insurance, so why would I go to Canada where their citizens come to the U.S. to get healthcare? I wouldn't want to wait nearly a year to get it fixed! Hopefully its just some rehab, because surgery is really inconvenient right now.

back to topic, go to a doctor speculating about it is the worst you can do, only a doctor can tell you what's realy going on, espacialy with the knees as it's a pretty complicated build joint where you got bones, cartilage, filaments, tilaments and muscles all working together to have it full functional so basicly it could be anything of it. and takeing some drug to make the pain go away or useing something which could work as a cover up for the real reason shouldnt be too good after all, so i would strongly recomand to visit a doc.

As far as the Glucosamine and Chondroitin you've selected, often times manufacturers put well over the recommended DV to up the price. With that said, if you're comfortable with what you selected you can't really go wrong. Be sure to follow the directions and be sure to take it DAILY.
From what I read the daily recommended dose was around 1200mg. With these only being slightly higher, I figured it would be a pretty good choice. Thanks!

ive had a similar issue for years, i have the same issue as my mother as far as i know, she was told when she was in the navy she had very low amounts of fluid between her knee joint. hers got better once she left the navy. mine has gotten worse ever since i turned 13. if im up and down a ladder multiple times in one day, chances are good it will take me 3+ hours and some calming thoughts to get to sleep that night. can literally hear my knee grind sometimes, and ive had nights i worry my knee wont fucking move once its at rest for a few hours. shitty part is when my knee flares up and i end up changing the way i walk to ease pain, it fucks me on my ankles the next day. ive noticed one of those ACE knee braces from walgreens helps sometimes, but you cant wear them all day. something to try for 15 bucks.

never been to the doctor for it, dont have insurance, nor the money for that shit. shits dumb man, if you can find a way to get it fixed and have a way to afford it, fucking do it. it doesnt get better unless you pulled something and it needs to heal. no tylenol or advil helps me, the only thing ive ever tried that enables me to sleep when this shit flairs is weed. stupid illegal bullshit, and medical laws in AZ are retarded.

and meloxicams good shit my boss takes it daily for his arthritis, and when he forgets to take it hes hurting pretty bad.

Re: Knees

Go see a doctor. Just because you consult an orthopedist doesn't mean you have to get surgery if he/she suggests surgery is the best route.

I'd like to try taking these for a few months, like you mentioned, prior to going and seeing a doctor. Let me know if this is good stuff.

Re: Knees

by CharlieGiteau » Mon Aug 06, 2012 1:38 am

Thanks for the replies. I looked it up, and the pain is right at the top of the 'fibula". Are you suggesting my cartilage is gone, Eric? I've been prescribed naproxen prior to my shoulder surgery to repair my labrum. Seemed to work pretty well for my bursitis. Is it one of the anti-inflammatory drugs without acetaminophen? I kinda like my liver.

I have good insurance, its just an inconvenience if something like this requires any surgery. I'd like to postpone it as long as I can due to other priorities. I guess I'll have to suck it up and go to the orthopedic doctor that fixed my shoulder. Maybe he can line up some physical therapy and scripts.

I dunno, maybe I'm just a pussy, and should suck it up.

Re: Knees

by hatemakerr » Mon Aug 06, 2012 12:22 am

Not going to speculate what's wrong with your knee, but joint pain can be a lifetime discomfort. Paracetamol isn't going to be a long term solution and more recently the FDA/Scientists have LOWERED the recommended amounts. Acetaminophen can cause liver problems and varies in each patient. For infrequent headache/aches I'd use it, but a regiment I would stay away from advil as you have suggested.

My medical opinion is to go to the doctor, get your knee looked at. In the meantime ask for a script for "mobic" (generic meloxicam). If your knee is like wowwtf-pain-level as for the 15mg if he writes for the 7.5mg. It IS an NSAID but it doesn't have acetaminophen and it's probably the best for inflammation. And it's dirt cheap if you don't have any prescription coverage.

If you can't get to a doctor you could try glucosamine chondroitin. It's a bit pricy and you'll want to buy it in like a combo, glucosamine & chondroitin. It's been know to improve joint related issues but again, it is pretty expensive. Take it as directed on the bottle for at LEAST three months. If it works, horray keep it up. If it doesn't, probably won't ever.

Hope this was helpful.
