It could be the ports for your router that are used to communicate with steam are not opened.

The way to open up ports on every router is different so google your specific brand and router model.

did you try deleting your clientregistry.blob file, then restarting steam?. That has helped me in the past, if not maybe try unistalling then reinstalling the game, remember its a 12 year old game.

I keep getting kicked out of servers and am not sure why.

The problem that comes up is "Steam connection lost"
