TPG Season 29 Playoff Preview!!!
This past season of invite has seen its fair share of ups and downs from last season. With only 6 teams finishing out the season it was always apparent that all of the teams would compete in playoffs, and the real season would start this upcoming week. 5.5 currently holds the top rank with a record of 7-1, and their only loss being a fairly tainted one as NerdVirg had a player banned after their match. Either way a loss is a loss, but they will definitely have a score to settle. Last season’s champion, hsb unfortunately was unable to keep their momentum, and even though they tried to reform as #skinvite folded mid-season. Stepping up to the plate, Cass and pdx managed to create TORA who helped keep the invite team count to 6. Two of the disappointments so far with their performance was dgf, and iwa. Dgf managed to make the invite finals last season, and actually came mere seconds away from winning if it was not for a last second capout. Iwa has an excellent roster on paper, but throughout the season they have yet to show what they have. Hopefully both of these teams will show up to win.
In keeping with the competitive nature of this game, and hopefully to keep up interest, I managed to ask the teams from invite a series of questions in hopes of learning just a little bit more about them this season, and what we can expect.
Five and A Half Men – 5.5 //
Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?
JaGGoN: well we expected to go out there and get that evasive unbeaten season but inevitably failed with a loss on merderet using a couple of ringers (not sure how many we had, I wasn't there, but I know it was a very close match) but in general, it will all come down to the finals. If we make it there and can close the deal on another ring for everyone on the team, the season was a success regardless of record. If we can't cash in, then it was a failure.
Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?
JaGGoN: well I wasn't there for it but I would say it must have been our merderet match vs. nerdvirg we lost by like 9 points and obviously that was our only loss thus far so that would seem to make the most sense. Other than that, from what I was told our match vs angrynerds on lennon was close I believe but yet again I wasn't there for that match ahaha.
Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?
JaGGoN: I think everyone was what we expected but if there was any surprise at all I'd say us losing to nerdvirg on merderet. regardless of having our whole team around or not we didn't expect to lose ever so, that was a surprise for sure.
Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?
JaGGoN: our lineup will be what we ran out most of the season: rifles- jules_winnfield, JaGGoN 3rd-toxinator - heavies- taylor and ryanemo sniper- Hudson. If someone can't make it we have dorito and cypher ready and waiting.
Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?
JaGGoN: as of right now it hasn't been discussed very much but I would love to keep this lineup together. no one has specifically come to me saying that they plan on anything other than that so, I'd say we're likely to bring the same roster back. if we don't me ryan and jared will still end up forming some sort of team with a combo of players from this roster and passed thunder rosters as well.
Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?
JaGGoN: just want to say good season to everyone. shout out to tox for being a ginger, hudson for being the expert on sabermetric baseball statistics, ryan and taylor for being the most dominant heavy duo in the post WSVG era and jules for being the biggest movie clip stat whore of all time (just gimme the demos bro, just do it) and shoutout to my man spider for doing these write ups all the time, always love to help contribute to this excellent reporter and of course to cass, who's movies are very close to being completed! we're about 2 days of fixing and cleaning up the editing away from having a double release of his two masterpiece films and I very much look forward to finishing them off, I've LOVED working with him on them both and I can't wait to complete them and finally give the man a movie he deserves. I haven't had much time over the last week at all with being sick and having a bunch of different doctor's appointments MRIs CT scans and what not so hopefully I have some time to get on the computer in the next week here to really sit down and get it done so everyone should have two very nice movies to look forward to by the end of the season! <3cassino. Also after that. joey harter will have a movie soon to be done shortly after the season is completed and then airnick follows. With that said, ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD LIKE A JAGGON-MADE DOD MOVIE, PLEASE SEND YOUR INQUIRIES TO ME SOON. AS OF RIGHT NOW I PLAN ON NEVER MAKING ANOTHER MOVIE FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN MYSELF ONCE THESE THREE ARE DONE AND ONCE THAT DOOR CLOSES IT ISN'T BEING RE OPENED. you all know the fee, if you want it, pm me via 1911, steam, facebook etc. and we can work something out
angryface – angryface >:-|
Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?
Hobbler: I think we did much better than we and everyone else thought we would. When we started the season I really didn't expect to win any matches. I thought we wouldn't be able to compete and that we should be in main, but I guess that wasn't the case at all.
Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?
Hobbler: Our chemille match against 5.5 was the toughest by far. A couple of our players (daeo and I) had picked up a new game that week (gw2) and hadn't really touched dod until the day of the match. Some teams you can jump in without practicing at all and compete, but not 5.5.
Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?
Hobbler: skinvite surprised me. I really thought they were going to be in the finals with 5.5. They had a pretty scary roster and was definitely the team I was 2nd most worried about facing. I'm not sure what happened to them or why they disbanded, but we were lucky to not have to play their a-team.
Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?
Hobbler: vertex, ck, hobbler(third), daeo(sniper), zook, shizz.
Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?
hobbler: It really depends on what happens in the playoffs. If we do play another season I think we will get a win vs 5.5 and possibly take it all!
Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?
Hobbler: Yes.
Virgins In Flannel – Nerdvirg
Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?
Linus: Well, I actually think we should have performed better, looking at our roster It's very solid, but I don't really know who's been playing the matches.
Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?
Linus: Playing thunder is always hard, so probably one of those 2 matches.
Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?
Linus: I'm actually very surprised of 2 teams, angryface and +TORAQVC(fuck that name had to copy paste it). +TORAQVC because they're 0-4, and angryface because they're 5-2.
Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?
Linus: Uhm, seven, milo, cableguy, frank beas and motive.
Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?
Linus: You will probably have this interview with me next playoff too, PROBABLY.
Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?
Linus: Comments: Thanks for doing these, keeping it alive.
Shout-outs: family. Oh and #freebiggie.
Iwa - .iwa
Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?
Badnewspanda: I honestly can definitely say we have been underperforming this season. We started off the season fairly confident at the look of our roster consisting of most of the old crew of guys and a few new faces. After a very strong previous season that unfortunately ended with a disappointing loss to DGF in playoffs. We were looking for a chance to do some damage this season. But this time around we have been plagued with roster issues due to folks having these "real lives" I keep hearing about. Add that on top of our time honored tradition of picking our gun classes out of a hat minutes before the match, you can say our performance has been less than stellar.
Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?
Badnewspanda: Probably on anzio against angryface. I felt like we came in especially unprepared. I'm not sure if it was the drugs or some sort of rip in the space/time continuum which had me on 3rd rifle on bridge and bewton heavying plaza. Needless to say, bad times were had.
Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?
Badnewspanda: I think it would be no surprise that our surprise was definitely angryface. Who would have thought that a team comprised of a group of 12man all stars would assemble into a solid team? They seem to be able to get their shit together and get the momentum going when it matters. Solid fraggers with the teamwork to back it up.
Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?
Badnewspanda: Seeing how we only have 7 people on our roster, you can just go ahead and assume that everybody will be seeing some playing time. Now that the season is almost over we finally a been to establish a somewhat solidified roster. As long as everybody shows up, I can see us getting far in playoffs.
Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?
Badnewspanda: Hard to say. If we do come back at all, I would expect a fairly different roster.
Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?
Badnewspanda: wu-tang forever.
+TORA QUE O BATMAN - +TORAQVC
Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?
cAss: Me and Pdx were playing for iwa and later on the season we decided to part ways with the team due to politics. We couldn't have our starters playing and had also ringers scrimming/playing all the time, hence the results didn't come. But we had a great though! After we left we decided to create a team and hitted two rabbits with just only stone: a) allowing the invite ladder continue to have an even number of teams b) a chance to shit all over ck's face with a decent team (srs). And with our new team we initially had a tied and close game with iwa but then we lost to nerdvirg and 5.5men by a large margin of points (we couldn't have our best 6 in both matches). We would still lose but for a lower margin that's for sure. Anyway, we're aiming to have our best roster for playoffs and maybe spoiling some top tier in the way.
Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?
cAss: Surprisingly for me, +TORAQVC vs iwa was a great show even though it was played on merderet. But both teams didn't played gay and tried to cap out at all costs. I managed to ninja cap during first half but iwa capped out and controlled the most part of the map during the second side and eventually got more point than us. It was quite good, really!
Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?
cAss: I got surprised by how in hell defiance have allowed Matt, Joel and Kevin sandbag in Main again with their 3h-under-a-different-name team (and slightly different players). Thankfully for the rest of the teams, they had roster and connection problems so their results so far don't really represent the potential of the team. I'd say that Angry was also a good surprise (none of them got banned so far!). LOLJK<3UALL.
Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?
cAss: Like I said it earlier, we're going with our best possible roster: Me, Pdx, SillyHand, Rodz (Kubah), Storm and Jarrod Lord.
Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?
cAss: Since that I already decided to take a break from DoD after this season I don't feel we will be able to hold a Invite team for the upcoming 30th season. I have been playing for too long without any interruption and as the last months of the year are always a bit of problematic for me when Brazil and USA have their DST's up and running - the time difference between EST to BRT jumps from 1h to 3h. I don't see myself playing DoD matches, a third year in a row, after 12 am on my local time. But any way, since that I'm a nerd, I might join a team to roster ride and occasionally play (3h, preferably)!
Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?
cAss: I'd like to thank you for the great time I had throughout these years. I won't mention names here because I might forget someone and get into trouble. Ya'll know who you are! And for those who always complained about having to play against me: thanks for the laughs when I interp'd the shit out of you! Last but not least: CoreyJamesMarko[dd], will you finish my movies pleaseeeeeeeeeeee?! Peace for ya'all.
