Thanks all. I'm still leaning towards an asus g75 vw model. They have two hdd slots so I can add an ssd. I don't play any game besides dod so :/.

Rob, I remember some problem your laptop had with dod being choppy or ? Did you find a fix to it?

I just got a Sager NP9170 a couple months ago. It's a fucking dream, and the prices for Sager are generally a bit cheaper than those of their competitors.

Try to grab something with a SSD if you can. I honestly don't think I could ever go back. The speed difference is ridiculous.

Whoever you buy from, you should probably wait a few weeks to a month to buy, because those Christmas sales are REALLY going to open up your options.

Wasn't one of the demo recording problems related to HDD speed? May want to look into that.

Ideally, you want a notebook with 2 hard drive slots. One for an SSD, and one for your HDD.

While you may not have that SSD now, it is essential to have one in your notebook. Especially since you can get a 160gb for under $100 these days.

A discrete graphics card is also a must have if you plan on doing anything graphic intensive.

I'd look into those AMD APU notebooks. Huge bang for your buck.

Looks good. I don't really like 5400rpm on the hdd. It's to slow(well, for me it is) and it will give you longer loading times... If you have money to buy a ssd, do it!

You can get a 120Gb ssd for around 950-1100 in sweden, but I guess it's cheaper in USA.

Samsung 830 series are from my view, the best.

Hey bump. Probably going to buy an asus g75 one of the newer models - i7, nvidia Gtx 660m ddr5, 8gb ddr3, 1tb hdd 5400 rpm. Anyone have experience with this?

msi gt70 or gt60 , have it and its unbelievable. I use it for music production and gaming , and plug in external things like mouse, keyboard , monitor etc.

However I haven't paid any attention the the new os windows 8 and I don't know if it is actually any good or not. So if I have the option of either should I take windows 8 over 7? Is it better?

Stick with more of a gaming oriented company like sixten suggested (Asus is my recommendation but MSI is also very good). Other laptops will have overheating problems as they assume you'll only use it to surf the net and play the Sims. I would suggest you wait till black Friday if you can. Also my last suggestion would be to read reviews on the builds, this will give you a really good idea if it will work for you because if someone has had a problem with it, it will be listed.

I'm just hoping I can get some stuff from my hdd. (What's the best way to do this?)

Also, I don't play much, only 1.3 but would like to make dod movies on a new laptop and continue mapping. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

some other shit. was about 1700$ runs everything from dod 1.3 to battlefriends and warbuddies
also u can poor crannbery and vodka in it, and use the laptop keyboard for an ashtray.

I dont know what they cost in USA, but they cost around 800-950 in sweden. If you want to play other games than 1.3, these computer will fix it. (Not games like bf3,crysis or other games with a good engine)

Yeah money. I'd be interested in most bang for buck and 700-1k range if anyone has model suggestions. I'm not too picky maybe jus USB 3 compatible I also have a TB of external space ready to use. Appreciate it

Edit - how much do you think the market will change for Black Friday on stock builds?

I suggest laptops from ASUS or MSI, never buy shit from Acer or Dell for example. Apple do good laptops, but the price is to much and not good for gaming.

I used a Lenovo L420 series(I guess it is), 13" monitor.. I got like 100fps on full resolution. But it wasent that fun playing on a such small monitorl lol

My motherboard on my xps 1530 died today. I'm going to try to quick fix it with a hair dryer, but I am wondering what is on the market for laptops so i can play games with all y'all and do some movie editing. Thanks
