I think I led the league in KPM that season and was close to the top in K:D (although snipers dominated it). We had Netherhell, Polak and one or two RUNS guys on Ax44. Also, some weeks I got jdub to play. There was a week where the allies stacked all their good players where we weren't, so we had to hop around servers to win the other maps. My favorite was the week we played RR2. I sat at the 4th flag for the entire day, dodging horribly thrown nades. The first and only time I've ever run out of ammo with a K98.
I was A47 that campaign, was not pleasant. Antrax and Apax were two of the few other really good players against a stacked division. I wonder if you guys had Expunge that campaign too, he was aliasing since they had banned him before that. Sniping was insanely easy and having a good sniper against a pubscrub could practically turn the tide of a 12v12 battle, as crazy as that sounds.

It was like playing in a semi-organized pub that kept awesome stats and you never got banned. Although, they used to do this thing where they would take a client side screen shot at a random time and then make you upload it to see if you were cheating. That happened to me like 3-4 times a week for the first couple matches.

Stacked? I wasn't in Ax44. For some reason, I still remember sitting up the night before my senior year of high school as we worked on our strategy for edge2.

Yeah, they tried to do that. I think we only had "3" teams. 2 american teams and 2 euro teams, 475th vs 187th (if I remember right) and 475th vs SoS |

I believe there were thousands of players in BFE at one point. Saw some old post about it and someone mentioned 4000 players worldwide, but I'm not sure if that's true. I think the idea would be worth a try.

1911 BFE Style 16 vs. 16 Battle for dod_heutau/dod_cherbourg/dod_hill_classic 2013 ??

6 teams, 96 players ?? (figured 4 too litle, 8 too many, 2 teams get first round bye based on round robin ??)

Round Robin and Double Elimination Tournament ??

Shoutcasting ??

$20 donation per player ??

1st Place $1600 / $100 per player ??
2nd Place ?
3rd Place Profit ??

???

Sitting in the reinforcements channel on ts2 waiting for the call that you were going on the server next, bfe was a right laugh.

Vp started as a group of people who knew each other IRL in Georgia, then ballooned from recruiting a ton of people from BFE.

Yeah as much as I've enjoyed matches, I still remember having way more fun in BFE. They were fairly good about balance, although once campaign (BFE 9) had an Axis army that was ungodly stacked, with some of the best competitive players combined with all the 12 hour playing nerds. Netherhell might have had the highest K:D in the history of that tournament, having a 16 player team with guys who run in a straight line and look at the ground when they prime a grenade was great for sniping.

There would be several battles like this going on each week, I think 3 or 4 each week. There was a ranking system, medals, promotions etc. There always needed to be some sort of officer in each server on both sides, and the officers would nominate who would get non-stat based medals.
It varied from like 12v12 to 16v16 during the peak, depending on player turnout. Battles were on Wednesdays and Saturdays for 12 hours, each side had 2 or 3 armies so there were multiple servers and maps being played. Yeah officers would do promotions and medals after each battle. I played from BFE6 to the end of BFE (24?) and then played some Source in the follow up tournament, Victory in Europe (ViE).

I'm pretty sure it was only once a week, but maybe we played in it at different times. You are correct your team was either Axis or Allies.
I played in like 2001. For an entire week you'd have 3-4 battles going on for different countries. Like I said, if Italy was contested there would be a server going on Anzio for the entire week, France would be on Caen etc.
Yeah we never did stock maps. We always played on the largest maps you could find in DOD. I didn't play until like 2003 or 2004, so I guess some things changed since 2001.

Most fun I ever had in a pub then lol. It was 12v12 if I remember and the match lasted most of the day. Like 8 hours long or something. You had to sit in the waiting to play queue in the subs area for your team and as people dropped out the next in line go to go in. I had a good time. It was a little cooler than a pub because you had a set map for the week just like a normal 6v6 league and your team got together and organized strats and starters for the week. You played with the same team all season and they kept track of the final score and had standings and you could win the championship. The maps were usually ginormous. I had a great time doing it. I wish I remembered the names of some of those maps.
