There shouldn't be any value in it. If you have some types of software installed, you will see some value in there and it may cause issues with other software products. It looks like that's not the case.

Address access exceptions are usually caused by AV software, viruses, or endpoint protection type stuff interfering with normal software operation. Generally if the software's not being hooked it should be able to run properly.

Open your registry (c:\windows\system32\regedit) and check
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
and see if you have anything in
AppInit_DLLs or if LoadAppInit_DLLs is set to 1

If you're running a 64-bit OS then do the same in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
AppInit_DLLs have no value at all.. What should it be?

Rosenquist is my steam user name.

Got a fresh Windows XP installation now. Installed steam as soon as I had installed all needed drivers.
Still same problem. Steam either crashes as soon as I have logged in and all steam windows are about to launch.. or i get that error message and have to manually close it through task manager.

I''ll try to follow your suggestions scorch and see if it works.. to be continued!

Already tried everything you guys said before I came here.
Removed .blob 10 times probably. Reinstalled Steam on a fresh partition couple of times aswell.
It worked the other day, then the problem came back :/

um, just re-install steam, not dod (hl.exe) that is breaking. steam.exe.

save your dod folder someplace else before re installing then paste it back over.

You could try the old stand by of deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file in your Steam folder. No idea what that does, but it fixes things sometimes.

Steam wont start..

Get this message when I try to start steam. Looks like some sort of software fail, but dont know how to narrow down what program that is causing it.
When I go onto "Add/Remove" program and are about to uninstall Day of Defeat it opens just fine. Kinda useless if I have to do that each time I want to og onto steam..
