His most exciting fight was the one against Condit and it wasn't him being exciting, it was Carlos Condit bringing a fight to Georges. GSP is a dominant fighter, but god damn he is boring as hell. That is the biggest difference between him and champions like Jon Jones or Anderson Silva. Both are beasts in their weight classes and finish fights. GSP will somehow be able to dominate anyone who goes into the cage with him, but still be unable to finish.
Another thing that I have noticed and surprises me is how mental he is. In some of his tough fights he will ask his corner if he is winning or if he looks good. I think that is a sign of someone who is can be broken.
GSP fights his style, it's not a "knockout" or "finishing" style, it's a "let's go 5 rounds and out fight my opponent".. Every fight I watch of him he fights 1 level smarter than the other guy, like he said after this fight "Diaz is a boxer and I can't out box him, so I stood an extra step back and fought using shoot boxing". He generally fights to the style his opponent likes but finds a way to render them useless in some way (like shoot boxing a boxer). He is also one of the fittest fighters I've watched and because of that I believe he enjoys going to 5 rounds knowing that he will have more stamina than the other guy every time.
I don't know if your last line is saying he can be broken mentally, but I definitely think the opposite. He has the most level frame of mind out of any fighter I've watched, never gets distracted in the ring and is always 100% focused. About the talking to his corner, I think the reasoning behind that is he wants to know if he's winning so that he doesn't have to put himself in dangerous situations and can pick his shots/ control the fight his way. Asking if he looks good is probably because a beat up face to the judges gets scored lower.
On Diaz, I haven't watched many of his fights but most of the takedown stuffs he had on GSP looked more like a weak GSP takedown attempt than anything, you could tell because in the later rounds he went back to timing his power takedowns and succeeded. Diaz gave him his back and pretty much went for one move the entire match which was holding GSP's wrist and trying to roll, GSP countered this by punching with his free hand and when shots weren't there anymore or he felt the roll coming he hopped to the other side and repeated. So did Diaz tho, same attempt just with the other arm, surprise surprise it didn't work. Eventually Diaz started trying to stand but never made any explosive attempts at it so whenever he got up on his legs GSP would just whip his weight and Diaz's to the ground causing Diaz to fall back onto his knees, this repeated several times as well. One thing I will give him credit for is crawling from the middle to the cage and getting up that way, that was actually fairly impressive to watch.
Diaz is also a bitch for taking a swing after the bell on round 3 (or 2 but I think it was the third) this might have just been a tactic to throw GSP off his game but GSP clearly didn't get rattled..
And I'm not trying to bash Diaz I really don't know much about him, just saying that he didn't seem effective this match. I'll give him credit that he attempted to kimura lock or arm bar GSP at one point and I actually yelled at the screen because I thought GSP got caught in it.
