Playoffs are here! JgN of THUNDER and Schmiggs of MVPz and will be joining me this week to provide some insight on the matchups this week on lennon_b2. Looking for more volunteers to join me next week, and may try to get some short interviews with members of teams left at that point.
Upper:
(1) THUNDER vs.
(8) GameSpy Rangers
Well, this matchup has only happened 7 or 8 times in the last 2 seasons. GSR always puts up a good match regardless of map or situation so i say glhf and hopefully we don't blow it on lennon like we have for one third of our losses as a team over the last 4 years. Should be a good playoff match!
JgN’s pick: GLHF!
GSR comes limping into the playoffs after an absolute raping by Winnfield. That being said, they should prepare their cornhole for insertion because they face THUNDER in round 1. THUNDER has for the most part, rolled through this season. I don’t see anything different here.
Schmigg’s pick: THUNDER by 399
GSR’s season hasn’t gone as expected, and it seems pretty unlikely that an upset is in the works here. However, they seem to play THUNDER all the time so they should know what to expect coming into this, and put up a solid fight. Ultimately, I believe THUNDER will take their first step to a repeat with this match.
Airnick’s pick: THUNDER by 200
Players to watch
THUNDER: ryanemo, dorito
GSR: Mino, MAJL
(2) Winnfield & Sons vs.
(7) slow loris
Ah my buddies over at the Winnfield Gaming Syndicate. I was worried you may prevent me from playing you in TPG finals after all the back and forth this season, and you didn't disappoint me. First, these guys need to make it through a team in slow loris who saw a rare hiccup against us last week in a poor showing on rr2. This won't be your average 2 vs 7 matchup as slow loris has the players to be able to surprise a good team on a map like Lennon, but I don't see that amounting to anything. Player for player, Winnfield is going to be too much for these guys and shouldn't have an overly difficult time if they have their starting 6.every side of the map will be held out if Winnfield plays as they should and this likely won't end well for my friends in slow loris.
JgN’s pick: Winnfield by 220 (420-200)
This could be the upper MOTW. slow loris has a win against Winnfield once this season already. On Lennon though it could easily go either way. Like always, if Miller plays, slow loris doesn’t have a shot.
Schmigg’s pick: Winnfield by 30
As JgN pointed out, this will not be as uneven as the seeds would normally show. Slow loris beat Winnfield earlier this season on Merderet, and has been one of the surprise teams in Upper. However, Winnfield has shown throughout the season that they are the second best team in Upper at their best. I believe that the playoffs will be a time when Winnfield brings their A game, which should get them by slow loris this week.
Airnick’s pick: Winnfield by 100
Players to watch
Winnfield: seveN, kirk
slow loris: hildebrand, shogun
(3) team 99 vs.
(6) Donkey PunchN Krew
Okay so on paper, dpk is the best online team in the game. However, someone forgot to send them that memo, as they have spent many recent matches being afk, red headed, and bazookaing. Team 99 boasts a roster with some of my favorite players, headlined by imo one of the most under rated rifles in the history of retail dod, jackson. Dpk has the advantage in the heavy department which makes a huge difference on lennon, but Jackson and the rifles of team 99 are going to raise some hell pushing through connector on axis and underpass on allies. I expect this to be the closest match in the first round of the playoffs and I wholeheartedly believe dpk can pull an upset in this match. However, if jackson is running on all cylinders and another support player like bobson can amp it up for the match, 99 will be able to take it easily. My prediction? Those things will happen, dpk's heavies will run the show in apts, and ace will have to gay it up as much as possible to keep them from running havoc on the entire map.
JgN’s pick: 99 by 20 (260-240)
Dpk and team99 have both finished 5-5 this season. This is going to be another close match with both teams having the talent to take this down. K4b00m should be able to bring his team together to take this one down although MotrinIB will have his team ready to slow him down.
Schmigg’s pick: dpK by 40
Had we used MOTW for the playoffs, I believe this would be the one. These are two evenly matched teams (in both skill and record) on a map that is heavily reliant on the success of the heavies. In this department, dpK seems to have the edge, and thus would be expected to be the favorite in this match. However, 99 seem to have a more cohesive unit and I think that ultimately this advantage can help them overcome their disadvantage in apartments to pull out a close win.
Airnick’s pick: 99 by 30
Players to watch
99: acetamino, stealth
dpK: k4b00m, beast
(4) dirty ghetto f**ks vs.
(5) team risK
On a map like lennon, stupid things can happen. dgf as a team has more chemistry than most teams left in the game and a few talented fraggers in watch your back, bullgooselooney and cheech that can cause serious problems on a map like lennon. All it takes is a couple sprees from a player on either side of the map for a quick cap out. That's the good news for dgf, along with their 2 wins vs THUNDER on lennon in the last 3 seasons. The bad news? They go up against a risK squad who, in my opinion, is the second most rawly talented team left in dod. Not to mention they have 6 players who know how to play the game TOGETHER, something few teams can say. With all that said, I’m gonna have to give it to mister cheng, patten, fenton, pawel and rubel.
JgN’s pick: risK by 115 (350-235)
risK and dgf are 2 more teams that finished 5-5 this season. Both are good solid teams with good teamwork. I think it will come down to who has the better strat and most patience. Although I lessthanthree Matthew Rogers, I’m going to go with team TrackPants this week.
Schmigg’s pick: risK by 20
This rates to be another competitive match, in a match of dgf’s chemistry vs. risK’s individual skills. risK had a poor end to the season after a win over dgf in Week 6, while dgf’s wasn’t much better with wins against WR and GSR overshadowed by big losses to THUNDER and 99. Fans of sniper battles will want to watch the battle between Bull and Patten going long. dgf will play a solid match that may not be enough, as I believe that risk at their best with a full roster has the best chance to win, but this isn’t a guarantee. We shall see which version of risK shows up…
Airnick’s pick: risK by 70
Players to watch
dgf: Bull, watchyourback
risK: vas, cableguy
Lower:
(1) TeamLess vs.
(8) Heavy Hitters
I don’t know much about lower tbh, other than this airnick guy wanting to never leave it, but I know enough hto be willing to bet on the 1 seed vs the 8 seed. Teamless has some guys I recognize on it that can play the game while HH has my buddy khoi on it and that cutie patootie Courtney, but that won't matter.
JgN’s pick: TeamLess by 300 (400-100)
HH has only played 5 matches this season and has amassed a 3-2 record while TeamLess has been the most solid team this season in lower. Not to take anything away from HH, but TeamLess should take this down easily.
Schmigg’s pick: TeamLess by 200
This is a rematch from last week on RR2, which TeamLess won easily. Both are good lower teams, and HH is only an 8 seed because they started late in the season, so unfortunately for them, they will be out of the playoffs sooner than they deserve to be.
Airnick’s pick: TeamLess by 100
Players to watch
TeamLess: C-tOn, lerfooled
HH: khoi, apple
(2) 1080p vs.
(7) Kevlar Soul
No comment. ceebz.
JgN’s pick: 1080p > anyone they play while they have ceebz, 1,000,000 - 0
KS is a pub clan I think. And 1080p has become team cheebz. 1080p should just play the match with bromley, nugs and cheebz.
Schmigg’s pick: 1080p by 800
Pub clan against what might be the best team in Lower? Poor KS.
Airnick’s pick: 1080p by 500
Players to watch (according to JgN)
1080p: ceebz and ceebz
KS: just watch ceebz kill them all, so anyone.
(3) Fatal Mistake vs.
(8) Believe the Hype
Wwell here we have the 3 time cal champion and last year’s lower champ in fM (wtf haven't I had the chance to pooh on you in a league yet nicholas? come to upper ^_-) up against bth, whom I see pubbing quite often. Airnick will control whatever route he is going and the rest of fM have a considerable amount of experience together so I don’t think this match will be a huge problem for them, though a few of the bth guys seem to show some potential (at least in the gsr pub, no idea about anything else).
JgN’s pick: fM by 200 (400-200)
Nick Conte has a raging problem. The good news is that he doesn’t need to worry about it and they should beat bTh this week. As long as K4b00m doesn’t ring for them that is. GRIMM is still awesome though. Look for skull to carry fM to a win.
Schmigg’s pick: fM by 150
We have a 3 game losing streak in matches we have actually played, and are looking to keep it going. We also lost to bth last week in a close match, so this one should be good. Odin vs. Skull on this map has potential for both to have 30 deaths, which should be fun to watch.
Airnick’s pick: GLHF
Players to watch
fM: Skull, rydN
bth: Odin, conv1ct
(4) Most Valuable Playerz vs.
(5) By InviTe OnLy
MVPz, a combined service time in dod of 130 years. pPayers who have been around since the old betas, and more gray hairs than sir ian mckellen's nether region. Bio, well i dont recognize any of these guys. Not a single one on this list. Wow. I’m sorry guys, hmmm. Well with that said…
JgN’s pick: MVPz by 50 (250-200)
josh_________ will disconnect like 3 times per half, because his internet blows then he’ll KTE the whole time, call Narc an old rager, blame RWC for tk’s then tk a shitload himself. Motive will randomly bounce around his scope or do little mouse dances because he’s got major rage and ADD. It’ll be my first time heavying this map, so we’ll see how it goes. Good luck BIO.
Schmigg’s pick: GLHF
Pub clan vs. non-pub clan, we know how this story goes.
Airnick’s pick: MVPz by 300
Players to watch
MVPz: Motive and hellfire
