Also, thanks for the suggestions.

Loci method was cool to read about. Thanks for that one.

Light trolling. I remember PEMDAS, but I admit I have forgotten a lot of basic things from Middle/HIgh School. I could tell you all 9 planets, but not the order. All I remember is Mercury is closest and Pluto is farthest away. I used to know the capitals, but forgot over time. Stuff like that. Oh, and dividing fractions? Yeah, right.

I've used the method of loci to memorize sets of data to great success. It takes some discipline and practice to do well, but once you've developed a system, it can be used to memorize almost any set of data (sequentially as well).

Look it up!

if i'm not mistaken each state has variations in their police code. of course a few stay the same or are close like 10-4 but they can even vary by city so just make sure you're studying the right codes with the right scanner
Yeah, thats true. I chose my city's scanner :D

Write it down on paper with different colored pencils. Activates both brainhalves. Helps to remember.

Well, i taught myself the boeing 737 NG checklist(not the full, but a good part of it) when i was planning to apply for Pilot scholarship.

What i did: Find learning material, read learning material. Then i downloaded flight simulator, and i did the checklist(spoke it out loudly for myself, and noted every step down, then i went back to learning material, and cross referenced it.

After a few weeks i knew most of it.

But remember codes and meanings, try to watch like tv series like cops or something, and then when you see a crime or something you say the code out loud, and check it.

Or read newspapers were they list crimes the past weekend or something in...

With chemistry constants, I always make annoying radio station id jingles out of the numbers. Works like a charm, but stays stuck in your head forever.

All depends on what you are memorizing. In a 12 man you mentioned something about being interested in the police so are you talking about police radio codes? For something like that I would break them down into groups of 5-10 (maybe using flashcards) based on how commonly they are used. Focus on doing a single group at a time and then move onto the next one when you think you have a good grasp on the previous group. Go back and review previous groups every so often to reinforce them. I would think 1 week would be enough to fully memorize and retain 100 codes for a test.

Acronyms. In the military, we had to remember all sorts of useless bullshit and made words to remember it. For instance, BAMCIS:

Begin the planning
Arrange Reconnaissance
Make Reconnaissance
Complete the planning
Issue Orders
Supervise

The shit sounds retarded, but it definitely helps to remember.

As for radio codes that can't be converted to such things.....practice makes perfect. By using them you will remember them eventually.
