Although I may not post as much, I do try and keep up with everything, especially posts/threads like these and I'm sure the other TPG Admins do as well. It is however hard to keep track of everything (What everyone wants, doesn't want, what should be changed/altered) and make them all happen.

Once I took over as the Head TPG Admin, I wanted to try and include the community more with TPG. There were many things I wanted to do and change, but I decided to wait on some things until the following season because there wasn’t enough time to do everything. It was a totally different/new Admin team and my first time as being the Head Admin so we did some things the old way, and some things a new way. One thing I wanted to do but didn’t have the time for was to involve the community more in the decision process for things like the map rotation.

I can tell you one thing for sure is that we do listen and discuss everything as much as we can before we need to make a decision. Every single suggestion that was made to us at the start of the season was thoroughly discussed privately among the Admins and AC Admins. Now that we are settled in and able, we would like to open those discussions to the community. We have therefore opened our once private forums to the community to discuss TPG related issues. This will not only help the Admins to stay in touch with the DoD Community, but it also brings the community’s voice more into TPG. To participate, click on the “Forums” link under “News” on the TPG Site.

Really like showtime's schedule. Of the maps being discussed, Aleutian, Emmanuel, and Halle are easily my favourites of the bunch. Chemille, Anzio, RR2, Harrington, and Donner are all keepers for sure, but that's not news.

FYI this thread is just for discussion's sake, I'm not expecting anything to come from it.

Re: TPG S33 Maps

yes saints is a good pick too. rr1 and rr2 play differently, sure, but they feel like the same thing. my reaction was "oh, another rr map...cool -__- ." i think rr2 plays better. there was a reason rr1 got redesigned. overall though, both rr's along with a few other maps all give me the same reaction, -__- . they get boring.

if someone made a better version of argentan for dod 1.3 (as suggested by my friend twist one day when we were talking), that would make for a cool map. i think source had some cool maps that would make for fun 1.3 matches. i liked a lot of source maps, the game just played like garbage. hell, get rid of rr's altogether and replace them with a 1.3 version of the alternate salerno/palermo tweaked optimally so it's a good map if anyone was willing to make one (i would but i wouldn't know where to start in regards to map making). change up the feel a bit. this game's map rotation has been exhausted.

don't think i'm too much of a fan of sherman. there's another source map i'm thinking of that would make a cool 1.3 map but i can't think of it right now. had a series of crumbled apartments scattered around, back alleys and alternate paths around most areas, a central area with a tank for double cap (the crumbled apartments and back alleys can all be taken to this area as well), and the main road was fairly irregular and changed directions/angles as it went through the map connecting both sides. was a really fun asymmetrical map. i'll think of it..

Aleutian - I thought this map was pretty fast paced and had a great flow.
Merderet - One of my all time favorite maps...could be because it used to be a regular map played EVERY SEASON and I got used to it though. Would be kind of cool if they did the spawn move up thing kind of like they did on zafod though.
Halle - Loved this map, played underpass and bridge. Would love for this to be a regular map.
Emmanuelle - Great flow. Fun map.

-I love pubbing Sherman but the non-stop nading just makes it super super boring in matches.

The "voted in map" format isn't the worst idea I've heard, but Chemille and Lennon need to be in there for sure instead of playing Harrington twice. I'd like to see something like this:

Wk 1 - Anzio
Wk 2 - (voted in map)
Wk 3 - Harrington
Wk 4 - Chemille
Wk 5 - RR2
Wk 6 - (voted in map)
Wk 7 - Lennon
Wk 8 - Donner

List for vote in maps - Emmanuel, Halle, Avalanche, Solitude, Sherman, Aluetian, Merderet, Saints, Merdilla, insert other maps here

Each "voted in map" week opposing teams attempt to agree on the map to play that week. Otherwise home team chooses and everyone is home team once and away team once so it balances out.

Although I do like CAL_Sherman, the middle is too condensed forcing a clusterfuck of grenades and the heavy routes force you to either bait each other, or send only one heavy while the other prones it up on the dirt mound to camp middle.

Aluetian is a good map, just something about it feels weird. The long and heavy routes could use some work. Aluetian forces a 1v1-long 2v2-apts. 3v3-mid situation. Not much team work there.

Halle was good. I really liked bridge. I didn't care for the color scheme of the map as a whole though.

Anzio, Donner, Harrington, and Chemille are all solid maps. They really stress on team work because there are no 1v1 routes.

Lennon could use some collaboration.

There are alot of good maps out there for us to play, and yusssssssss Solitude is NOT one of them..
That one, just like Sherman, are just nade festivals and our limbs are the only invited.

-dod_diversion is a great map what happened there? Multiple routes, not nade heavy, hard mid-cap.....

-There is a version of (dont lose your mind) dod_orange on the GSR server that is a lil bigger and is made real not just all orange that could easily bring a 60 bomb for somebody. still a long shot.

-I think its also on the GSR server.... dod_kalt day? or dod_kalt_summer? a VERY well made map that we could easily throw in and enjoy. a little nade heavy though

-Pub servers have over 100+ maps on them (some of them). I'll go into one in the middle of the night tonight when im there alone, rtv the shit outta the server and get screenshots from some of the maps they have. I really think many of them could be useable in TPG. And in all honesty, we should be voting on the maps we play anyways, no?

We need an official TPG vote thingy setup to pick the maps.

Everybody agrees there should be other old or new maps rotated into each season. The problem is that only 9% like each of those other 11 maps and 89% do not and will complain about it.

Re: TPG S33 Maps

by Hudson` » Sat Oct 05, 2013 1:41 pm

I'd like to see Emmanuel/Halle/Aleutian in the rotation and solitude removed. It was also fun to play railroad this season, and I also wouldn't say it's necessarily "redundant" to play both, as they have completely different dynamics. Same could be said about Halle/Merderet, totally different maps.

Sherman2 made for some intense matches, but it obviously plays poorly. Same with Sturm, and Avalache. Also, anyone seriously suggesting we play any large map from 3.1 or before hasn't loaded any of them in 7 years, because they're unplayable for like 17 reasons.

Re: TPG S33 Maps

by greetz » Sat Oct 05, 2013 12:36 pm

Anzio, Chemille, Donner are all keepers.

Railroad 1 and 2 are defintely viable choices as they don't play out similarly at all. I'm not so much good at railroad 1 but its still fun to play it just cause the pace of it is much different from rr2.

An improved version of lennon would be really cool, there are some parts of that map that bother me - the lack of importance that long has. And the lack of possibility of breaking the cap.

Merderet is a lot of fun, I wish I could say the same for halle, but as of right now I don't really care for the map. Waterhouse battles made merderet a lot of fun. The marathon from spawn to the mid cap is what made me go insane. As of right now the axis spawn seems a bit close to bridge cap if I remember correctly. The heavy route I feel also is an issue.

Harrington even though its just run forward is still alright, as I don't see anyone making a new map thats much like harrington anyway.

Solitude is honestly a terrible map. The lack of importance mid house and long are really make it unbearable; as there are only 1 way in and out of the only double cap flag on the map. I think if someone edit'd the map a bit, you could make it a bit better, but as of right now its a lost cause, and we should look to new maps/other maps we have used in the rotation before.

Emmanuel was really fun I thought and I could totally hope to see it replace solitude completely. Like Ko said, some angles in mid and the door on long are a bit silly and can be easily fixxed. The Heavy route, which I played in my match, I felt was extremely fun and could easily affect the mid and even long at times due to the ladder at mid.

I always enjoyed Sherman over solitude. At least the routes connect at middle (an important route). Yeah its a run at each other scenario but I feel like full caps are a bit more viable just due the 2nd flags being the back alley.

Any version of saints is also extremely fun. I like maps that are a bit hard to get over 30 kills cause of the pace. It makes teams rely a bit more on staying alive rather than pushing and hoping for a solid 3/4k to get them a push/capout. I feel like saints is an excellent example of this.

Fucking around on avalanche for one week I think would be fun with my 42 in doub windows.

Re: TPG S33 Maps

emmanuel and aleutian are pretty cool. I think emmanuel could use a little work (mainly fixing some puzzling angles in middle, and tweaking the mid house a bit. rr1 is tons of fun, unfortunately we didn't get to play a match on it. solitude and sherman are shitty and 0 fun. merderet > halle

I'm always a fan of trying new maps and changing things up now and then even if it is just 1 or 2 maps a season that aren't the usual suspects. Unfortunately, the majority of the DOD community always complains when we try new things. I'm glad to hear there are people that are up for these new maps.

Enjoyed both Emmanuel and Halle last season, was nice to play something a little different.

I'd like to see Sherman in Season 33 as well. What about bringing back some old favourites like ava, kalt, flash? I know people stopped playing those for a reason as Ava is boring, flash is very small and Kalt is not really all that great for competitive play but it might make for a fun and more nostalgic season?

by joeledmunds » Sat Oct 05, 2013 7:19 am

Any chance of seeing Emmanuel or that latest version of Merdilla (I can't remember the new name) making a comeback to TPG this season? I liked playing something different. Also, whatever happened to the "final" version of Lennon? I know ift had some ridiculous crashing glitch, but I liked the improvements made and it'd be nice to see it get fixed.

Any other maps people would be interested in? Flugplatz and Vicenza obviously, but what else? And what maps could use a break?
