I think we should make the guns all shoot in cones with 0 weight in the center so they're all basically random. ~no one fucking ever. fuck you source.

One question, why is a medic carrying a weapon in the picture?

Carry on.

either make maps larger for 7v7 game play with usage of machine guns, or smaller for 5v5 keeping with CS:go mind set of "left/right/middle" so 2 rifles, 2 heavies, 1 sniper.
15 second smoke grenades
rifles do 85dmg to legs but cause bleeding, so let's get the bandage back
The MG was effective in 1.3, there just were not any skilled practitioners. We gave people nightmares with TM on the MG back in the eG days. 3.1 was better. Just the ability to shoot through walls easier was much more fun.

I don't think Valve will ever recognize the competitive side of Day of Defeat. I doubt if they even make a new Day of Defeat there would be matchmaking.

Don't worry, they will get right on making a new dod after they release half life 3

Re: Day of Defeat: GO

Make a match making system where you choose your Primary class(favorite weapon), and you choose your Secondary class. (2nd favorite weapon) to reduce que times... in this imaginary game we thought of that will never be made.

but look at CEVO pugs for CS:GO. Sometimes you have people who are silvers joining pugs with people who are at a much higher skill level, they can vote kick and .pause and find someone new, or play a man down.

If you don't want to go to a vote kick system (say they are partied with someone or two people). THey can have a vote class change like you said, where if say 3 of the 5 other players (in cs:go a vote kick is unanimous, but for a vote class change a simple majority works). Once the bad sniper or rifler dies, they are forced to pick a different class.

OR
each class has a different rank. So maybe I'm a Master Sargent as a rifler, but only a Corporal as a sniper. So if I want to go into a ranked match making as a sniper, I would queue with Corporals. If i queue as a rifler, I queue with master sargents.

also, there can be unranked and ranked matchmaking (this is something the cs:go community has been dying for, that way they're not put up against accounts with 2 hours on it that are smurfing or cheating). Anyone can queue up as anything in unranked. However, to queue as a sniper or something in ranked, you have to have proven some kind of efficiency in that class as unranked. Like for sniper have a certain amount of accuracy over 400 kills or something along those lines.
That sounds like something that could work.

What about helmet insignia's you can buy. Or different colored wood stocks for guns.

I'm all for a dod with weapon skins but hats and shit is just stupid to me. And by weapon skins I don't mean a k98 asiimov, maybe a black one instead of red etc.
Yeah, nothing crazy for skins, as they tend to stand out. Imagine trying to prone in bushes with an asiimov mg-42? Talk about a dead give away.

However, you could do stickers on helmets.

Solid idea. I think you'll still run into issues with players that think they're better than what they actually are. So if you queue for sniper and you're terrible, your team may not be too happy with that. So maybe in addition to your idea, maybe there could be some sort of class renegotiation vote after X amount of minutes into the game??

I challenge my own idea though, there's too many kids on the internet with infinitely sized egos so this system would probably get abused at times all the time.

LoL at the name but I'd at least try a new dod out. I'm sure most of the community doesn't have the time for leagues and shit anymore but it would be fun to have some sort of match making feature that allows you to "scrim" when you have a spare hour.

DoD: Pacific Offensive. I don't believe there were any maps based on the pacific front if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Day of Defeat: GO

by motive » Thu Jan 29, 2015 3:05 pm

yeah valve isn't going to let you use their trademark

and "global offensive" doesn't make any sense. "global offensive" works for CS because counterterrorism is a worldwide problem. there were very specific theatres for WW2 so you'd have to make it dod: pacific or some other bullshit title.

given that the only thing you have so far is a title for the game and nothing about it works, i'm pretty cynical about anything actually happening with this lol

Isn't Call of Duty bringing back the WWII genre for their next release? People must like that style of game if they are doing that.

Re: Day of Defeat: GO

by ComptonAssTony » Tue Jan 27, 2015 1:26 pm

what in the actual fuck. I'd play the shit of this if it wasn't terrible. Then again it took like 2 years for them to (somewhat) figure out cs:go. Valve kinda shit the bed on the last few fps games, but they did say they were always impressed with the following behind DoD. Last i heard they weren't convinced a WWII shooter could gain enough momentum in the current market.

Regardless, glad to see someone trying to make something happen. Even if it isn't that great.

Day of Defeat: GO Greenlight concept.

Image

It's about time for a new Day of Defeat !

The community has waited enough and has decided to do the job by themselves.

Let's put it simple the idea is to take the gameplay of Dod 1.3 and make a free mod based on the CS:GO engine.

Believe in it or not but at least give it a chance we all would love to see this happening. And in any case even I we won't manage to make this happen the likes and the up-votes might get noticed by a guy at valve....and who knows...
