Snipers:
Hannibal, Cheese, EiseN, eXoRt, ub3r (no walls), and I was somewhere down the list a few.

Weird, now that I think about it, there was far less class specialization back in the early days, and you could almost add a light auto category just for junior, that little fucker.

Since beta 2.0 this would be my list and this is U.S only. This is all from personally playing against these guys or with them.

Rifles: Cyan, Beas, Kellen, Spyder, ackpath(even though he sucked on lan) deadbeat, dorito, bewton, and Docano for third rifle.

Heavies: Max, shiftypowers, ninjuh, profiction, plex, afropuff, lightoff and the best heavy by far my boy Spartan.

Sniper: Scorch, Marshall_D myself(pre 1.0) sov, shitgunbill, crus and motive.

Im sure I left off alot of good players, but this is just my personal opinion from playing against/with and lan experience.

The only one I don't like is Beas. Along with all the controversy, I always thought he was overrated to begin with.

i came into dod during the season where ele played trademark in the cal-i finals, trademark won, and then became compLexity the next season. so i'll give my opinion starting from that time. that was right in the middle of dod's rise to our most competitive point, which was summer CPL 2005. I then attended 3 so cal lans and cpl 2006.

it all starts and ends with lukNorth. i've played with and against the best snipers in the game, both online and on lan, and i can say he is definitely the best sniper i have ever seen play dod. the top snipers back in the day all gave luk a lot of props because he used to out snipe them all the time. i dont think there are many around who can vouch for this statement, but oh well. just believe me when i tell you

you are right joey luk was nuts.

However, right when I quit DoD in 2006 our sniper on Insomniac Gamers Loki was pretty fucking nutz. I am sure he dropped a 55 bomb on Anzio while on Axis.

Baloo needs to be on the heavy's list too. Kid was crazy good. I remember he went from being decently consistent to fucking nuts in a months time and he destroyed on lan.

You apparently didnt see beas at cpl winter 04. As much as I hated him and I was even on his team, the kid had skills with the bar/kar.

i will vouch for luk he was a competent sniper, surprised me given the relative ease with which he picked it up. and he was usually fun to snipe against because he wasn't saddled with the usually faggotry tactics of John Q. DoD Player

Fair enough, I wasn't around in 2004. I went mia after fragmart 2k3 to roid out and play foosball. My short-lived competitive gaming career was very tfc and early beta DoD oriented so my knowledge past beta 3.0 is pretty limited as far as who I actually played with, very few of the early beta players around anymore. Didn't catch back up with what was going on with DoD really until later in 2005.

He was alot better when he was with us (hb). Did very well for us in the finals vs x6. He wasnt the best when playing with tec at cpl summer so im not sure, maybe the players around him made him good

This is a good list. But I have one gripe; UnSurreal.

He was super online, and relied heavily on lucky no-scopes, he was also the one guy I met at fragmart that came of as egotistical and rude. The rest of CHAR/MTS all ended up being cool guys. He talked a lot of shit, and then didn't play near as well at the LAN as he did online.

So, he gets barred from any of my 'best player' lists by default even though is probably a nice guy in reality.

Like the rest of your list though, I thought DR was a better auto than rifle, and I totally forgot about dune/tofu.

tofuman gets my best sniper ever if i wasnt a little biased about luk. he's my best friend irl and the sniper of my own team i created (gomi). but i still remember playing on lan with bowlcuts (me max tofuman DR) vs. L8L8L8 (dorito fusion chaos cypher..) and henry had the most insane match a player could have on rr2 vs them, but we still lost the match. noone remembers it except those who played though. if Max were here he'd back me up on this. henry was absolutely out of his mind

Henry was great, I played on a couple teams with him and max back in the betas. But id have to say marshall was the best sniper in NA dod history. I dont think he ever had a negative ratio in his life and pure domination on lan. He also played on a shitty labtop, so I could only imagine what he could have done with 70fps.

baloo should definitely be on either the heavy or rifle list. wasn't he ranked in the top 5 or 10 at CPL even though eximius finished like 2nd last or something? lol

in my opinion it's really tough to pick out the top players at each class. in reality there should really only be 3/4/5 total for each class because everyone peaked at different times and who's to say one wasn't better than the either at their peaks but both didn't peak around the same time (if that made any sense lol).

whereas you have guys like kellen, luknorth, dorito, ackpth, marshall, spartan, ninjuh, max.. people like that who showed up on a constant basis and always put up good to great numbers consistently....whereas people like pie, joey, an1mal(granted when he was on, he was ridiculous), bleargh, vasily people like that who were big names and could put up real good numbers, but not on a consistent basis, or were one season wonders/online wonders...but still were skilled enough to take a huge dump on people if they were on that day

edit: can't forget about my boy sean 'cypher' kalas....pretty much the best player in the game with any gun

and yeah i know i left out a few names(ie tofuman, fusion(real great role player) hn, etc), just was trying to get the point across. and not to mention play styles have changed a ton over the years

I know he's probably pretty overrated, but even so, you guys shouldn't count out steve as a sniper, I think he might have the fastest reaction time I've ever seen. As for the rest of the best players, you guys already pretty much named them all, I still think people like river, eckman, nuker and such should be included though, as for baloo, no doubt he's amazing, but he has that weird non existent recoil that I've seen some sketchy people use, mouse polling or some shit, I dunno.

Haha it's nice to be mentioned, but I gotta agree with ryan somewhat. My kills were definitely inconsistent, but if someone bet that I'd get 30 deaths every match they'd probably be 100% be right =).

There were some people that I loved to play against back in the day like dorito and bewton... even the ones I flamed (like seven haha), but I guess competition brings out the most fun. As exhilarating as it is to get 40-50 kills in a half, I find the best and most memorable matches are the ones like (personally) ENE vs N2P double overtime special on harrington in 1st round of CAL-I playoffs. Playing against eximius was always fun, and Pandemic on LAN was a good match too.

After playing with him for years though, alex "ninjuh" rubel is seriously god at every game.
