Well I'm sure we all read the post that gh0d wrote saying farewell to dod and gotfrag alike just in case if it shutdown one day (which for all we know could be very possible). Well if you continue to read down the page someone agrees with me when I say that bringing back 1911 would help boost what active dod community we have left. He furthermore said that using 1911 for match coverage would be one of the best options, along with advertising that THERE IS match coverage still going on. I'm basically just trying to say let's do this. Let's try to restore some of the old back.
I know it's time consuming, sears, are you even willing to do this or is your regular life a bit busy to actively keep up with doing match coverage? If not I would be more than willing to do it myself as I am currently unable to work because I'm in the middle of getting my green card renewed. (yes I really am Canadian and live in the us, I've head all the jokes so enlighten me on more if you can ) Anyway point being is I'd be happy to do ot if you don't want the responsibility sears as I imagine you are the sole admin of the website.
What leagues are even supporting dod anymore? What are the "good" teams now-a-days? Anyway any feedback or advice on the matter would be much appreciated as I am very serious about trying to keep this community alive just a bit longer.
The only competitive league still hanging on by a thread is TPG.
As I said before, I never intended for this to be a serious thing. I Just thought it was silly that the domain was available and just sitting here. If people that actually still play want to use this space as means for "match coverage" or whatever you want to call it, they are welcome to. But, I haven't personally even pubbed DoD in a number of years.
I plan on hosting this forum, and retro-fitting it to the old 1911 theme. Both for nostalgia sake and to serve as a final resting place for the community, as I've been hearing through the grapevine that gotfrag will not be online much longer. But, nothing really beyond that.
Will this get used? I don't know. I suspect there will be a lot of people that don't understand my intentions in having set this up. I'm not trying to "re-vitalize" anything, but this thing literally costs me less than $10/year, so it might as well exist.
yeah sears is right, theres not going to be any sort of "revival" of day of defeat. although the game is dead, "its not quiet dead" (holy grail reference).
but in any case, TPG is still around and matches are still played every week, there are a few scrims each week, AND most amazingly, people actually 12man every day (its gotten up to like 5-6 per day/night on weekdays now which is incredible to me...)
i dont think match coverage would do all that much other than just provide entertainment for readers. i personally enjoyed reading the gf match previews that were not so serious (i cant imagine there being "serious" match coverage in any sense of the word).
I have not had anything to do with dod, cs, hl, or hell even a computer for almost 6-7 years either but I'm going to give it a whirl. I don't expect that match coverage is all of a sudden going to magically blossom the dod community, but I know there are people like you Swiss that liked to read them for entertainment or other reasons, i am one of them as well.
I just figure instead of saying how dead everything is and how dead it's going to get, why not make some sort of half assed effort to try and keep it by enough people doing little things. Sears has done his part and brought the site back, next is restoring the old forums, page layout etc.. I figure I could do some match coverage if Sears is willing to sticky the Topic posts. Let me know what you think.
Thanks unpro, I appreciate the help and support! Please keep in contact with me via pm on here or by email, d0ublet4ke@gmail.com, preferably just pm me on here so we can discuss formats among other ideas.
