HLTV Models

Post by mogers »

So I guess with this new Server Plug-in or whatever it blocks HLTV models. I've been using them for probably 8 years and have no idea what they are called or how to get rid of them. Can someone tell me what I need to delete and/or rename so I can join these servers. I'd prefer Defiance not "go ahead and add my suspension."

I think it is the name of the gun.spr. That's going off of my memory adding them into the sprites folder years and years ago. Are the servers actually blocking them now? What a joke.

hello matt, go into your sprites folder and delete all the gun models in there.

I think it's not a matter of people think HLTV models are an advantage but rather this is all about to set up standard configuration for all the players. We can't let this pass way and them ask people to remove their jump scripts, strafe scripts, sprites, textures. I personally don't see HLTV models affecting gameplay but given they don't deliver anything at all why using them instead the original models? Anyway, KTE, Matt. inb4 strike jokes.

Comparing HLTV models to jump scripts and strafe scripts is bit of a stretch. HLTV models just make your game feel smoother. Does not improve game play or give you an advantage. As far as illegal models idk what this script is going to register as illegal. My main concern was the rate enforcer just because of the tedious spite disputes..

Our server doesn't use that shitty plugin Matt. So you could always wait to get rid of that shit until after this Sunday.

No one's server uses it, because that's not a change that would be made mid season. Only my server has it for testing. Yes, it is happening next season. HLTV models have always been illegal, along with all non-default models. The system works by scanning your files one time upon entering, If you have anything non-default it doesn't let you in. It doesn't differentiate between default, hltv, and anything else. Just default and anything else. I've already found jonski using custom grenade models(probably glowing orange balls or something). If HLTV models didn't provide an advantage, even slight, people wouldn't use them. Ask milo for help in taking them out, he knows the drill!

Bluntly, pretty much. I have no "proof" anyone is using custom models. And for the most part, unless someone uses a hello kitty thompson, i won't be getting any either. If i could ban people off of forum posts, ryan would have been banned 2 days ago.

If you join a pub with crazy mods and what-not.. can it change your models. Or does it leave the default alone and just add custom models to a folder somewhere?

So while we're at it; ban custom crosshairs too, or designate one for everyone to use. Also, lets not forget about the custom score board, sensitivity, gamma, brightness, custom key bindings, etc... These are all things we "tweak" to our liking that give you no real advantage over the next guy.

Banning HLTV models is plain fucking stupid. With that said, I'm not removing shit you can all kiss my, hairy, paste, ass.

HLTV models have ALWAYS been illegal. I'm not sure why you think this is something new. I have found a way to enforce the rule, and am doing so. I cannot pick and choose which custom model to allow. It is default or nothing. Custom xhairs, scoreboards, sensitivity, brightness, key bindings have all been legal. There is a difference.

I don't believe pubs will change your player models. They can change your mapmodels. Its not like someone will get in trouble if they try to join a server and it won't let them in. The addon tells you where the file is, dod/models/whatever.mdl and you go into your folder and delete it, pretty easy fix.

If you want to, keep joining connect hd.game.nfoservers.com:27015; password scrim and delete what it tells you to, until you finally get in.

elaborate on the actual difference? I mean, other than the fact that they've always been illegal. I'm just curious why custom xhairs are allowed, yet HLTV models aren't?

They change your gameplay experience bro. You can't watch a demo of someone using hltv models and see the same screen that they do.

You want me to speculate on the decision making process in the minds of how many different admins we have had from 2000-2011? Sorry, not doing that. These were the rules I was handed down, and the rules I will do my best to enforce. I'm not going to change a rule to allow custom models this late in the games life. The server mod simply decides if you are using default models or not. It cannot choose between, default, hltv, and then everything else. This is the best way that I have found to enforce the rule.

I don't think that it was always "HLTV MODELS" are illegal. More-so that any custom model was illegal. Like you said it doesn't differentiate.. ANY CUSTOM MODEL = ILLEGAL. Do I feel HLTV models should be illegal? No. I don't see how they give a player an advantage. But if this is a way to prevent models that can actually give a player an advantage then, I understand.

Add cl_particlefx to the cvar list if you want to see a real shit storm lol.

Anyway no matter what you do to customXhair.spr it would not give you an advantage over another player. That is mostly for minor changes in shape and color from what Valve offers by default. A darker scoreboard would actually hurt you, because you can't see through it when it is up. Sensitivity, Gamma, Brightness, and Key bindings are editable in the MENU SYSTEM. The game was made intending you to be able to edit these things.

While HLTV Models offer a minor advantage (and they do offer an advantage, because you don't have animation to interfere with your vision) the main reason they would have to be excluded by the server add-on is it compares the files in the list to make sure they are the defaults. If we remove that check then people could put whatever models they wish in there not just HLTV models. I could make my K43 look like a garand. I could make my models semi-transparent.

If HLTV models didn't give you any advantage at all you probably would have no desire to use them.

Have you used HLTV models before? To say they give you an advantage because you don't see the motion is nonsense. Your gun doesn't shoot faster. It doesn't change your recoil, your aim, your ability to see through other sprites. As Ricky said earlier, it makes the game look smoother to some people.

And to the people comparing these models to other scripts. Strafe/recoil scripts are for people who are bad at this game. HLTV models are for people who like the way it looks. Like having a dot crosshair versus a small plus. Or that big ass default crosshair.

The server add-on compares the files on the server to those on the player's machine. You can't have two files with the same name in the same folder on the server, so either everyone would have to have default models or everyone would have to have HLTV models.

Kevin even though we have been best friends for the last month and a half or so, I would say I have to disagree. I actually find the hltv models less distracting than the normal animation, especially when sniping. That being said, I am a little perturbed to find out our team is now harboring two cheaters. One, a highly illegal rater and now someone using weapon models to give himself the competitive advantage in main...

Like I told defiance before.. Euros, we have always been allowed to use them. Until now in TPG. But we adjust. Like we did with spawnnading and spawnshooting. Even though I'm the Euro's TPG admin, I'm gonna give my honest opinion about this, with no disrespect to TPG or defiance. If these models are considered giving you an advantage over here, I'm gonna buy it.
But before TPG, I had them for 5years. And I didn't use all of the models. I kept the default garand and kar model.
I think stealth is right when he says that it doesn't give you an advantage. It doesn't bring up your crosshair any faster. Or in any other way makes you a better player. You can customize this game in so many ways that hltv models shouldn't be any difference. And just because a rule always has been the same, doesn't mean that it's right. Our society constantly keeps changing rules to make everything better. And the game is so dead that we could adjust it within reason so that the players that still are left can enjoy it in their own way.

You don't change everything about your DoD just to get an advantage. You change your GUI and scoreboard cause of how it looks. For me its the same with HLTV models. I hate when that arm comes up and starts swinging the weapons up and down. I dont need that. I just want my weapon.

Back in the days i know some people in counter-strike played with no weapon at all cause they wanna maintain their focus on the crosshair. Which is the same case here, for me atleast.
When you switch fast from kar - pistol - kar after you shoot.. You dont see the animation of the pistol, cause it gets interupted. If we were to say that all players have to look at the animation we shouldn't allow them to fastswitch either. Let the gun reload then.

Since the DoD-community is so small these days I feel it's importent that we listen to what everyone has to say, what to improve and what not. Just to keep the game like we want it, so everyone keeps playing it.
If 80% of the community doesn't care if players use hltv-models. Then why force them to stop using them?
Don't come and say "So what's next, we are gonna allow wallhack cause 80% are okay with it?"... within reason.

Even though I've been using HLTV models myself, I tried being objective. And like I said. I'm fine with sticking to the old rules, and adjust like a lot of us have. But I would bring the models back if they were allowed.

The hltv model i miss the most, is the grenade ones. Which I can't really say improves my nading skills.

Maybe i'm just an idiot but i don't really see what the problem is. We are finally getting addon's to help make the game an even playing field, it has to start somewhere. If this is the reaction to getting addon to fix models, just wait tell they release an anti-cheat addon.

If you can't handle the orig models dont play, or go to another league. How i see it.

Still never got an answer btw, does this model addon solve the sound pack "exploit"

Anti-cheat clients were used in CEVO and CAL, pls go.

Also, is this you?

In reference to your comment, "a plugin that finally evens the playing field"; Myself and a few other people have already stated that HLTV models do not give you ANY advantage over someone using standard models. If your DOD skills are anything like your reading comprehension skills, I'd actually advise the admins to allow you to cheat.

They could have an approved set of HLTV models and allow them to bypass the plugin.

Considering this is a dead game and they have already stated there will not be any anti-cheat program coming anytime soon it was a stab at defiance. Sorry you are not with the in crowd. Also i have been in and out of this game for multiple years on multiple teams and you have always been trash at this game, don't start talking big because you are upset.

HLTV models are ruled illegal, end of discussion cry all you want. They found a way to enforce it and instead of suspending everyone who uses them they gave people a chance to fix the issue without starting a fucking riot. You dont like it fuck off, oh wait you are already long gone n washed up. Cya in a pub brah

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but the server add-on can verify the integrity of the sound files as well if that is what you are wondering.
well i know of sound pack of love crap that was passed around ages ago, guess it contained sound files that allowed you to hear things louder. increased the volume of things happening around you. good to know that it will make sure all sound files are up to date.

I was bad, and I've maintained that stauts throughout my DoD career. I really don't think I could qualify as washed up. I just realized you're also pretty fucking bad. Don't throw stones, bro.

PS: and by bro, I mean never my fucking bro, bro.

I think ya'll are missing the point here: no matter what model you have, its name has be the same of the default model. That being said, there is no way to differ an 'harmless' HLTV model from a translucid, coloured or even ones with different animations. For the sake of having a more organized league, with less spaces for smart people taking advantage of modified shit, we are banning them. Everyone here agreed that the HLTV models does only make your screen cleaner, hence going back to it shouldn't be difficult. Maybe the approach had a bit of grumpiness but all in all, having this anti cheat / checker working is something to help the community and intended to improve competition. And just jump into he Matt's pool, where the majority of the voters don't use them. Just chill the fuck out.

And Ricky, you should've implement STA way before. Having more leagues in parallel, in different days, makes the game stronger in a sense of allowing people to play matches on a different day than sunday. I bet we have people here that can't make sundays but would play again if they had a league to play during the week. Think about it you fucking anarchist!

It wasn't my choice not to, several people were against the idea.
