I don't think we ever had a lan in Knoxville... unless you're referring to the KY Lan.
Regardless, I'd like to LAN again. I like Vegas, I'd probably go wherever it is as long as I have the cash flow.

and should mention that they are the champs.

Austin, Dallas, Vegas, in that order.
Dallas would be preferable over Austin in terms of prices. Hotels are cheap and plentiful, there is always cheap airfare to Dallas, and Dallas has decent public transportation (Don't really recall if austin has that or not). There's also a significant number of LAn centers in Dallas, the only two I can think of at the moment are shadowlan and gamewyse(i think?) but i'm sure a google search will tell you which ones are still going.
Dallas is also perfectly fine for getting shitfaced, which we all know is what this is primarily about.
Only reason I'd say vegas is because I can drive there, and have some friends in the area.

New Jersey LAN 2012 would be the best choice for the following reasons:
1) Lots of DoD players in the NJ/NY/PA area, ie. Toxinator (BAD ON LAN), element (ONLINE AS FUCK), Jaggon (WANTS THAT 7634th LAN RING), Ryanemo (HAS TO PLAY WITH WALLS), Narc, Airnick, myself, etc.
2) I would be able to commute so that means I can always go home and eat some Mac & Cheese.
3) Everyone would be able to see Patrick "Chimpanzebra" Cosenza in REAL LIFE as this location yields the highest chance of him attending. Think about this!!!1@%^$%

the problem with dallas is the public transit is not that good actually. because dallas is so spread out, even the bus system (and tiny rail system) would not work very well at all. dallas is a city that you really need cars for, especially if you want to go to good areas to get shit-faced drunk.
austin has a much better bus system than dallas. part of it is the fact that its much more compact than dallas. the other reason for the better public transit in austin is for getting shit-faced drunk. from the lan center north of downtown (its on 50 something, downtown starts 18), theres a bus line that goes directly south to downtown. the stop is literally a block from the lan center and that bus will take you all the way into the heart of downtown.

It's pretty stupid to try and pick places that are on either coast, simply because a few players live there. For the westies, traveling to NY would cost a significant amount more than traveling to somewhere a bit more central, same vice versa. Not to mention more centralized cities are cheaper travel destinations, which makes it more likely that we will be able to get a larger attendance compared to if we were to make it in SoCal or NY (examples being SoCal lans and W2Z lans)
If this is meant to be a "reunion" lan of sorts, then the goal is to get as many past and present members of this community to show up. So I really think it's best to see where we can get a good venue, and try to go from there. Which is about the only reason that I think Vegas would be a good choice, you can get ridiculous package deals there.
Myself, I'll show up just about anywhere, as long as there is a decent turnout. I'd like to frag this game once last time, since I "missed" the last SoCal LAN.

you need a lan that is the closest for a lot of players and has something to do in between games as any dod player who has lanned will tell you, lans take FOREVER. Vegas and Atlantic City are good choices.
I suggest a west coast lan because there are a lot of dod players out here, especially in socal, and I know there are a decent amount of guys in arizona. But I think you east coasters should try and set something up as well. I don't think it's that hard to get a lan center on board for a tournament, so someone just has to step up and get one going. The organizer should find the best date for everyone and stick with it, if the dates change then things get screwed up.
I've always found that socal lans did really well during winter break and of course summer.

while I agree if you want the BIGGEST crowd of players then a central lan would be it. I won't shell a ton of money to go to NY and I'm sure a NY player wouldn't do the same to come to CA. However, that's not to say people haven't in the past (jaggon, ryanemo and khoi come to mind at socal). It depends on how far people are willing to go. Do we want a giant forever-good-bye-to-dod lan? or do we just want to have a small lan gathering on each coast?

having done it as a teenager(because some people were too lazy to volunteer!)~, running a LAN and setting it up is really not that much effort prior to the date, easiest way is to just call a LAN center and instead of trying to sell some crazy tournament idea on them and making it official(which is going to sound like a cluster fuck shit storm amount of unwanted work to your usual lazy LAN worker) just ask them what their daily rental fee is for the whole place and see if it could work.
IRL examples:
x3o had a 1650 per day rental fee but since over 80 people signed up prior they were convinced to change it to an official tournament(and thank god they did otherwise there wouldn't have been a prize pot as only 6 teams actually showed up)
w2z didn't want to run a LAN tourney so we just made it unofficial and rented the place out for a day, for which the fee was 1850, thankfully this time you all held true to saying you were gonna show up and the prize pot was almost 2K if I remember correctly.
P.s yes I know I organized the two worst LAN's in DOD history but I was a kid, and I apologize for their quality.

Saying Vegas isn't west coast is like arguing, "We shouldn't have an east coast lan for the people on the other side of the country, so let's do Kentucky." I'm not saying you're wrong that there will probably be venues there that will be better priced, and flying in might be easier, but it's still favoring the west coast players.
Also, I'm saving up for a wedding at the moment and - no matter when the LAN would happen in the next year - will be strapped for money. So going to a place that is synonymous with sucking money from people makes me not interested. The only reason I would want to go is to meet up with the guys I hung out with at w2z and maybe meet a few others I didn't get to a chance to see as much. Going to a place simply because there are tons of bars, casinos, etc. would be - to me - a waste of money. Maybe I'm the only one who has no desire to get trashed, gamble, and meet loose women. But again, that's just me.
