Didn't watch the video. Didn't read most responses to the thread. If she sent someone nudes, they leaked out to others, and she got shit for it, sucks for her. The only thing the world potentially lost was probably a fine stripper/pole dancer later in life.
CharlieGiteau, glad you gave your little man a high-five for his actions. Nothing wrong with teaching an idiot to know his place.

This story is sad. It's also disheartening to see some of you justifying the actions against her simply because she made a mistake. Should we harass each person who makes a mistake until he kills himself?
What I take from this story is to make sure that we stay connected to our kids and their lives. Be involved and be aware. Monitor their time online, have their passwords, and keep tabs on what's going on. Her parents should have been keeping an eye on these things for her, and pulled the plug when stuff was getting out of hand. Like Kirk said, kids just don't have the capacity to deal with this kind of thing.

Wow. Would you say that to her parents' faces? I hope you never have to go through what they're going through now.

Seems people who have a kid think the rest of society is oblivious to what kids do and how they behave. Oddly enough most of us remember being kids, had younger siblings, or have friends/family that have children. Just because we didnt make a little bastard, doesnt mean we dont know how the shit works.

Pretty much nailed it. I simply cannot criticize any father/mother yet without having the burden of raising my own kids. Even though I have my morality and demeanor already formed, there are a tons of daily situations that leaves out the theoretical education field and can often be handled with a different approach.
I've read this entire thread and everyone's comments. Though I agree with some of the arguments Alex uses, it's too much utopy to think that Amanda was 100% innocent/unaware in everything she did. Kids nowadays are way more prepared and aware that their actions unchains a given consequence more than ever. It's that uncommon seeing kids doing shaddy shit and hiding under the age restriction card in order to avoid the implications of what they did. Therefore, in my opinion, she was partially responsible for her actions. Going further, I also can't believe that we should sympathize with her tale putting her as a victim only. She was a victim of a severe form of bullying and there is no denial on that but everytime she screwed up pretty bad, she managed to get back in to a similar shit again making bad calls over and over again. Unfortunately for her she couldn't get out of it and due to the lack of help/teaching of her parents or teachers/friends didn't helping her as they were supposed to she ended up choosing to end up her torment, ultimately taking her life away. We expect a catharsis coming everytime we (or our acquaintances) have trouble but depending on the case it's not that simple.
By the way, I wish I could rep train Charlie Gitaeu (and Ricky, because his insanity replies are always a good luagh) in this thread over and over again. Your kid rocks!!

So if a parent sexually abuses their child, am I qualified to say that's wrong? A simple yes or no will suffice. I just want to hear you eat your words with the ridiculousness of your statement.
Furthermore, there are about a million and one parents who think punishment in the form of physical discipline is acceptable and beneficial. Yet, oddly, every study out there says pretty much the opposite. So if a parent tells me spanking is good based on N=1 and I say it's bad based on N=1,000 - who is more correct? Thought so.
Welcome to science: where we can make claims based on evidence even if we personally have not experienced the phenomenon or experience. It's fun. Try it.
P.S. I could think of an infinite number of things you judge which you have zero experience in. Pot, kettle, black. You can fill in the rest.

So are you saying the parent/parents are at fault? She did jump to many different schools which I'm sure parents must of helped with. As I jump back to my earlier point, the internet is what she seemed to always go back to. Its also what aided her problems in following her. So then it must be the parents fault.
Always cracks me up when I see young teens & preteens with their cellphones which has internet access and the parents seem to have no clue.
I don't read books ever but if Alex Kirk wrote one, I would buy and read it!

I agree with you on spanking. Shit doesn't work and the first time I ever thought about doing it I took a step back (and ended getting punked by my daughter).
And now I have no idea what we were talking about. Fuck 1911 on a phone.
I'll leave it at this:
Don't judge a book by its cover. Do not assume a parent is a shitty parent unless there is legitimate reason to believe so. Even if there may be indicators, do not assume. However, if they do something that is clearly wrong, then one does not have to be a parent to accuse that person of doing a poor job raising a child (at least regarding that specific instance).

Of course if you take one sentence out and call me an idiot, I understand motive. What I said has seem to come full circle. Who would be the person in a child's life to stop it?!?!?! The parents took the child to a new school but the internet is global.

I suppose I insinuated that, didn't I? I wasn't trying to hang the whole thing on her parents. There's a long list of people involved with it who can shoulder blame: her (for making poor choices), parents, friends, internet creepzorz, shitheads at school, facebook keyboard warriors, etc. No one person is to blame entirely. Could this have been prevented by her parents being more involved and aware of what their daughter was doing? Maybe it would have been less severe, or maybe it would have just been the same. Nobody can ever know. You can bet the farm that I'm going to make every effort to know what my kids are up to, though, and try as hard as I can to instill in them some kind of moral compass. I just hope they follow it most of the time. This shit scares me to death.

That makes no sense. You are oblivious. People only pay attention to kids when they're fucking up and embarrassing parents. Then its instantly "what a terrible parent its so easy because I was a kid once". Yup, logical.
wut.

No, bottom line is having a kid doesnt make you lord of knowledge regarding children. What research in regards to my statement do i need to provide? Human civilization and raising children since its inception? Genetic traits that lead to ingrained knowledge without ever being taught? Perhaps personal experience with kids? Or do you want some book or study a person did based on one theory or another on how best to raise children?
You come out with a statement that says those of us without children are not fit to judge parenting, and i have to justify saying that shits dumb? Ill give you a good example. My mother had 3 boys. She helped raise 2 girls. According to your fucked up logic, she doesnt know how to raise a girl because she didnt have one. Wasnt a child once, and doesnt understand what a young girl goes through. Her experiences in life have no value because the sex of the child has differed from the previous 3
Edit: phone fucked formating on page load and made me read something really wrong.

Aww, im sorry im not the social butterfly you want me to be. Good thing my personality and my quietness, which by the way is self enforced because i have terrible social skills regarding speech and what is acceptable in situations with people, somehow judges my childhood. I watch people. I watch whats going on constantly, i observe people. I stay quiet to not upset people and because i dont like crowds and i dont talk to people well who i have not talked too in person more than once.
I fail to see how slight anti social behaviour implies my family fails at child raising.
Ps, i dont want kids. I make 0 effort to have a relationship. I turn down offers for sex because i dont want the relationship. Personal choice doesnt mean shit. Keep trying to insult me though, working fantastically so far.

1) Blame the media. The media basically decides what we are exposed to and what we are not. How can we be blamed if we are not even able to know about the latter case? What should we do, then?
2) Had they both been equally covered, and had people been saying the guy on the right was at fault, then I (and I'm sure plenty of others), would have been defending him the same as Amanda Todd is being defended.
But we can keep comparing apples to oranges I guess. Aka, you can keep being duped by stupid comparisons which are not rooted in similar circumstance.

What published information are your reading to make you understand more about social interactions than most people? Also if you are so knowledgeable, they do have other alternatives than paying cash up front for a degree in sociology and or therapy, which would help actually give your arguments some credence rather than you spouting off that you know more than say someone who has gone through the painstaking process of obtaining their degree and multiple hours of study to say exactly what you just said.
I have seen a lot of war movies, and have played dod on and off for 13 or so years... I have watched demos, and listened to ventrilo's,and shoutcasts during matches. I know more about war than the average person.

Child development was like 25-50% of the 101 course that I took for my psych concentration. You know, the one that repeats high school psych on theories of sensation and general anatomy/physiology.

Most developmental psych is more theoretical/pseudo-science than anything. I mean, I wouldn't even qualify half that shit as a "soft science" so much as just downright anecdotal theory. Undergraduate psychology is the greatest joke of all undergraduate majors, for the most part.
I say this as a psych major. Clinical psych/clinical neuropsych. In grad school. If I ever teach psychology to undergrads, it'd get messy.

Yeah, I don't think there was much developmental psychology in that class. It was more along the lines of "this is what a human being can do at age 3".
