TPG deserves to stay. I think its the only reason why their is still competitve gaming on DOD. I was never a CAL-I player, but I was gaming back in the day when CAL was big and had alot of support from us, but at the same time TPG continued to live on. Narc has done a good job keeping everything going. Let's get TPG filled up because it has a decent website and all pas players are familar with it. ESL can be a goal for the future, if we can get an active group of say 20-30 teams every season I dont see why ESL is not in our forseable future.

on a side note I think AC should be treated alittle differently. Banning everyone isnt really going to help maybe just overturn matches and have a 1 match suspension, and after the second caught suspend for the season. Suspending like CAL did for a year duration isnt going to help anyone.

if you guys are so damn active as a dod community and think you can support another league, which i think is NOT the case, why not just consider having 2 matches a week for tpg? sundays and ughhh wednesday or thursdays. 8 week season, 16 matches, 1 map a week.

i have skimmed over a small ammount of this thread quickly, and i pretty much agree that fronting like we are stable and active enough for a professional pay 2 play league is just straight up lying to ESL and ourselves and setting us up for yet another flop.

also, this community has far too many retards and immature idiots running around. and i of course include myself in that statement. we will somehow make a total ass out of ourselves if we somehow get any professional exposure, and i would not be too proud of being apart of a community that is represented by so many idiots if we were to all of the sudden have professional and mature expectations from a professional P2P league like ESL. that is why i think it's great the way things are. our community is its own little bubble and really have noone to look bad in front of except ourselves. there are no expectations. we talk shit. we are immature. tons of you cheat. we are unprofessional. we are governed and admin'd by players within the community, so there is very little disconnect between the people, and the higher ups running the show. teams die left and right, and new teams spring up left and right. I have been apart of the cal-p and cal-i CS scene in the past when online leagues and very huge and lucrative lan tournaments were at their peek, and i was an invite player when dod was at its peek in 2005. I don't bring that last part up to brag, but to show that i have a lot of experience being apart of a gaming community that has the stability, maturity, and ability to support professional type leagues and exposure. and i am telling you that currently, we are in no shape to handle it right now.

the efforts of people like hellfire and others are cool, but if you all really want to improve the quality of our community, we need to put work into our own league (TPG) and our own community before we go out and seek professional like exposure and assistance. help lerf and others with improving their map(s). try to get some of the very active players to play 1 less 12man a day and spend that time being a tpg admin and/or reviewing AC demos. people are already doing write ups and regular fotw's, which helps. help groom/teach/encourage new and younger players like stamp and blackhawk so that they can eventually develop into solid contributors of the community both skill wise and attitude wise. that is how the community will grow and that is how we will be strong enough to go to a professional league like CEVO or ESL and say "hey, look at us. we are WORTH YOUR TIME AND ENERGY" which right now we clearly are not worth their time and energy.

that being said, i still feel the game is past it's prime and i enjoy the very "part-time" and "casual" type of attitude we currently have. but if there are enough of you fraggers that want to take this shit seriously, i feel like i have given my opinion on how to successfully build towards that. but i like the way it is now. it's more of a past time that i still do for kicks when my schedule allows. /rant

We won money at WSVG, at the tail end of the competitive scene, also in CEVO(i got cut before i actually got money, thank you jfrizz).

Wasn't it you that got smashed by deadbeat, at a computer gaming LAN?

"Typical dod hater" not even going to start on where you stand on this.

I was attacked for saying that I don't think this league has a big and active enough community to support 2 or even 3 match days. I don't play in DCN but I actually support the league and hope it prospers. You all fail horribly at reading comprehension.

sorry for posting my own god damn opinion that no one agrees with apparently. Probably the only thread that i've actually cared to read and respond to thus the reason i've posted so much in the last couple days.

CAL was a perfect league in regaurds to a few things

1) it was a working website - you could download maps, cfg's, crosshairs, ect, make teams easy, news was posted easy, reporting wins was easy, uploading ss's and demos was easy. you could actually talk to an admin when you wanted to via IRC for the most part.
2) it was free, other gamers would try out DoD and a few would get addicted to it, pub clans could participate ect.
3) it was in the same league as CS, and other top games which means could discover competetive play easier rather than going to a specific dod website.

IMO if cal did not die, dod would still be going with 30 teams in it.

CEVO on the other hand was poorly ran.
the admins were never around, they worked against the community. i remember downloading the first CFG for cevo and it still said CAL Config executed. not only that but you had to pay to play. even cevo CS was not as big as CAL.

forgive me if im wrong here all this new league offers to us is the same options that cal gave us.. options.

remember CAL supported games that had 10 teams playing too. i honestly think if we use this other league as our main league we will have a very slow first season, and then teams will start slowly joining.. i think there will be an increase in community activity however, i don't see dod getting as big as it was even when cevo was around.

we need some dedicated admins that will really make this new league a smooth running league. If we want it we should talk to the people who can make it happen and see what it will take.

Stop saying the community can't support 2-3 leagues. That's not what anyone is suggesting, from my understanding. It's certainly not what has been mentioned by those trying to set this up from my discussions.

We're talking about potentially meshing TPG and ESL so there's one league. One. Not three, probably not even two, just one. Rwc has a lot of life shit going on, and for that reason he may not be able to handle the workload required to run TPG for a few months as he has stated in this thread.

Thus the idea would be to take TPG, and just transfer it to ESL. We'd be a part of a mainstream, professional, and well-recognized league and we'd still have our own admins.

You guys are arguing things that aren't really relevant to the project that is trying to be undertaken.

So now its about merging the 2? Why not say that first then? The reason you have this argument is the complete lack of a single goal being presented.

I applaud sears for reopening this thread. Some epic stuff.... ESL was not expecting us to have 30+ teams.. From what I was told they were only expecting us to have about 10 or so with one division. When they found out we actually have 30 teams or so signed up on the TPG website (including SA teams) they were pretty impressed. The purpose of ESL is very similar to the purpose of DCN. Wanted a strong league, with a possible client, formidable admins, shorter seasons, and good map rotation.. RWC can be a tad stubborn at times(<3 you randy) so narc wanted to go on and try his own thing, completely understandable. A lot of people feel like I should be the Head admin to represent us in ESL, I still haven't decided on that yet because there are a ton of things to consider. My initial idea was to take the teams in TPG and just plug them into ESL, keeping the same admins, rules, ac, etc.. The TPG website itself can go down at any given time from what I was told. Narc and rwc can do everything needed to run the league, but they do not fund it nor can they get a hold of the webmaster. TPG season is coming to end which is why I feel that this "merger" could be perfect timing..

i still think there needs to be some more admins with some experience for this to work.

we need ac admins like, cypher.. ac admins that actually were ac admins at the time when the game was big and the competetion was high. im sure cypher could distinguish between a combination of high skill/lucky games and or just pure cheating. no offense to the current tpg admins either.. maybe some of these guys can teach the current ones. the ac admins also need to not hold grudges.

a good general manager i always thought ran the league well was insane. maybe we can collaborate and get a good league staff that's as unbiased as possible.

again im not bashing narcotic or rwc. i just dont remember them being admins from cpl05-cevo and i also dont know how they have been handeling tpg since ive been out for a year or two.. though from what i have been reading it looks like they could use some help.

Narc wrote:ESL has not contacted me. I am waiting for my sit down.

hope you're joking but waiting for esl will not get us into esl. someone either representing 1911 who actually wants esl, or someone that the community agrees will be the head admin needs to contact esl find out what we need to do to get in the league and then post it.

i also would suggest using the TPG off season as a good place to get everything smoothed out on the ESL side, getting the dod section up and running with ESL Rules, Configs, Map rotations ect on there so theres no bugs. then i would give another 2 weeks off to let teams join ESL.

Re: ESL

I've sat out the discussion for some time, but I definitely come down on the less is more philosophy. Three, and even two, leagues people have to decide what is important. As the community gets older, more people have real lives (and see the sun for the first time) which requires cutting back the play-every-night-and-all-night gaming of college and younger. So some people would play TPG, some play DCN, some would play ESL. Few would play all three. Obviously that means less teams per league.

I love the ESL idea because it does share in a multi-gaming unit and based on conversations the website is pretty manageable.

TPG has been great the last two years or so, but moving things from TPG to ESL, and scrapping DCN after this season, may be the best long-term option if we can get any sort of guarantee that DOD wouldn't be dropped after, say, one season at ESL.

If you guys need any help, just lemme know.

Re: ESL

of course pub clans could go over to esl. the only league that keeps pub clans from playing in it is cevo because you have to pay to play. and thats one of the things i think this community actually needs to reach out to is the pub clans. they are generally the newer players and the community has to take it upon themselves to show them esl and the competetive community.

to me esl is the next thing to cal.
you could make an invite and open just like in TPG.

Yes my post about the sitdown was a joke. From what I gather, we already have a spokesperson talking to ESL and have already made a list of possible admins. These people have contacted and talked with me and asked for help/insight. I support this move 100% and if I can do anything to help make it happen, or keep it going I will. I am just waiting for the "meeting of the minds" to be setup.

As for all this ac and admins being qualified enough, is sorta a joke. I honestly feel RWC, Myself, and the TPG/DCN ac are more then capable of handling this community. The more experienced ac the better. Some of you think the ac hold grudges or even have the power to ban. This is not true, Only RWC and Myself can make that call. Everydemo gets watched reguardless what certian people think or claim. You say ben made a good admin, well some background on that, I was Cal-invite, head admin at one time. I needed an assistant. I hired Ben as my main dude. When I left he was the best choice to take my spot. So to answer your question, I feel I do have the experience in being an admin, and picking a decent staff. I am not corrupt. I am fair across the board. I dont take sides its all about the rules and being fair. Players on the wrong end of a decision will always call corrupt. All I know is RWC and myself have been doing our best since becoming admins. And I honestly feel we did a good job trying to keep the league fun and alive. We dont get paid to do it, and I think the only payment we get is being bashed on 1911 when we make a decision someone dont like. Thats expected though. So I dont agree with the comment about more experienced admins or ac. Sure we could use more active ac but the ones we do have dont get paid and still watch them. If we have more players that want to watch demos and give thier opinions. Im all for it. I am not sure where I am going to be next season. I really dont want to do DCN for another season. I dont even know if TPG will be given to me nor do I know what ESL will offer. So I maybe an "out of work" admin soon. Hitting up the soup lines. All I do know is that I will support anymove this community makes and If I am needed I will do my part.

I've been part of TPG administration since season 22 and I couldn't get more happier to see how things developed since then. Like I said on hellfire's previous thread perhaps this ESL movement will likely to be something that actually CAN make bring lights for this eleven year game again. I think the currently admins are more than capable of carrying this league with both maturity and competence.

I also wish that TPG could also stay active as a safe haven if at some point ESL just abandon the league for any reason.

Are you all assuming that transferring to this new league will bring back old teams? DoD has a league.. TPG. Some new flashy league isn't going to bring anyone back. DoD is dying slowly. Stop living in a fantasy.. Your dreams of becoming a pro gamer aren't going to come true.

Does TPG have some problems? Sure. Every league does. All that really needs to be done is move up the 2 finalists from Lower/SA division. Leave the lower division for the pubclans and create a deeper Upper division. Also, having a shorter season, and letting the seeds carry over to the next season.

i dont care if you think i'm a tool, just like im sure you dont care that i think you're an even bigger tool. and exigent flopped on lan, so if it was strictly a lan discussion, it would be tough to defend that particular team. but i played brian and PK at the next cpl and they were insane. but, we werent having a lan only discussion, because it all stemmed from wint0's comment "I was playing, winning money, and crushing idiots like you and enjoying it." he WAS playing, he DID win money w/ PK, and he DID crush idiots like lerf [online with exi and on lan with PK] and he DID enjoy it. so, a lan discussion is a whole different can of worms, as it usually is. and once again with this boxing shit... have you even fought a real fight before? do you have a record? or like i said, do you just frequent your local gym and spar with your friend who is in equally average shape? anyways, this is getting ridiculous. i need to man the grill now, this steak is not going to cook itself. have fun with your legendary dod status, your friendship filled facebook glory, and heavyweight UFC championship defense.

the whole facebook thing was clearly a joke, I guess I need to hint at sarcasm a bit more. You really dont know me to well, most people who do, know im just being a smartass esp about being a dod legend as I stated earlier. This whole ufc thing I dunno where you even got it from, you kinda just brought that out of left field. As for your anwer yes I have a record, and I have a fight coming up in september. 5-2 ammy record. Yeh I know im not anything special but its a little more then going to the gym and looking at people. Btw i know exactly the kinda person you are, and I just dont care for you. End of story.

So I dont think its self esteem issues. I just think your a huge tool and im sorry if you dont like it but I dont give a flying fuck.
This was sarcasm? I have read, re-read, closed my browser, re-read it again, copied and pasted, and now quoting this statement. and I STILL can't find the sarcasm.

For the love of god, grow up. Hope someone knocks some sense into you. Done with this part of the thread.

Doesnt it sound a little corny to compare how cool I am to facebook? I did it as a joke, but thats ok you go ahead and believe what you want. Either way the end of the day both of u r 2 chubbs in a pod. So whats the point in arguing.
