Dod lan?

Will there every be another dod lan?
I don't even care if its for money or not. More than 80 percent of the people who went to a dod lan knew they weren't going to win, but instead they wanted to meet the people who spent hours apon hours with them on ventrilo. You've prob opened up to someone via dod, more so than you to anyone in the RL.
Anyway, I just thought about the community and I want to know if we can ever have like a, dear god, can I say it? A dod reunion? The way high schools do it?
I'm 24 now and I have zero time to play this game, but I wouldn't mind booking a flight somewhere for a weekend to frag it up and/or at least catch up with some people to see how they are doing (I personally liked Knoxville). I started playing dod 1.3 "competitively" since spring 04 there's a lot of good memories that came from this game. And I know as long as there is a nineteeneleven.org there will always be an area on the interwebz where you can nerd out a bit, but I really wouldn't mind going to a lan and getting bombed afterwords with the e-family I grew up with.
I mean everyone should be over 21 by now right? Even hXc? Def not Milo but you get what I'm saying. Someone in this community (Eric...) could prob organize something? I'm assuming most of us have jobs and are prob establishing a career at this point.
Anyway if nothing comes out of this thread, I still want you nerds to know. If your ever in the nyc/north jersey area, whether its work or vacation. Feel free to hit me up, you'll have a place to crash. You might get raped a few times, but its all good.

I've had the idea of a final 1.3 LAN next summer on the back-burner for awhile, kind of waiting to see how things go with people playing the game online over the next year before I make any official planning efforts. I did have a poll on the front page for awhile, and most people indicated they would be interested in attending if something worked out.
If we do another LAN, I think we should go as big as we can, and try find a time/place that would allow us to get as many past/present players to attend. Las Vegas actually makes a lot of sense as a location, as airfare is pretty cheap (about $175 round trip from Portland), and it's close enough for a lot of SoCal people to drive. I think there would be quite a few past players that would make a weekend trip to vegas for one last DoD lan/party, but who really knows.
I have good friends are on staff at
pdxlan back in Portland, and they've been willing to help me out with planning and getting in touch with potential sponsors for prizes.
As far as planning goes, I've had a few conversations with the owners of a
lan center in vegas. But, nothing more as of yet. They seemed open to helping us out though, and said that they would probably be able to work with nearby cheap hotels and possibly airlines for discounts (vegas has a lot of this kind of stuff, another bonus to the location).
I'm going to try and stop by and chat with them in person when I'm in vegas in this upcoming January.
So, is it worth pursuing this any further? Would any of you nerds actually go?

im sure everyone would agree that out of all the potential places, hong kong would be the cheapest (once you get here). actually i would be against hong kong considering i am going to be back in the states when this would happen. nice try alex, nice try
a couple of years ago some people were talking about the possibility of doing a lan, and i checked into things in austin. found a place then that looked pretty good. if we ever get serious about this, i can look more into it.
TekRepublik
austin would be a sick city to do a lan, itd be cheaper than vegas (flights from ny-austin are under 100), and itd be central US for west and east coasters. i dont know if youve heard of sixth street, but basically the entire stretch of the downtown (like 20-30 blocks), its bar after bar after bar with live music in each (i looked it up lol, 56 bars). just throwing that out.
and its hipster enough for alex to come and feel at home.

Nothing can ever be "hipster
enough" for me, Swiss.
I've just never been to Austin, and I hear wonderful things. I'd be down for more east coast or Pacific Northwest, too. No interest in SoCal, personally!

Just to clarify, I would never try to do a Portland DoD LAN, as there are so few of us that live in the Northwest, I was simply saying that I have good contacts on the
pdxlan staff that have offered to help me plan a LAN and put me in contact with their
sponsors. Which is pretty god damn helpful.
The huge upside to Vegas is the affordable travel costs, as well as the over-21 activities. For instance for me personally, round-trip airfare and 4 nights hotel and a rental car in Vegas can be as little as $400 from Portland. It would cost me $500 just for airfare to Chicago. In the event that we could get group rates/discounts on airfare/lodging, which is relatively easy to accomplish in Vegas, the cost continues to go down.
I understand the downside to Vegas, as it's not a place that I frequent, but logistically it actually makes a lot of sense for a small community like ours that is spread out all over the place. I am looking into Dallas as well, just seems much more expensive.

dallas is going to be more expensive than austin with MUCH less to do. granted itd be more laid back than las vegas but the bar scene is one of the best in the country. southwest will fly round-trip into austin.
just throwing that out there. if people are interested in texas, austin is probably better than dallas
EDIT: some flights into dallas are significantly cheaper, depends where youre flying out of.

Haven't been able to find a venue in Dallas either, I'll look into Austin. Those are one-way prices btw, and not sure where you are getting those numbers. My search for Southwest (include taxes/fees):
portland-austin= $310
new york-austin= $476
los angeles-austin= $380
chicago-austin= $380

Well, in order to have it at Austin, you would have to convince the only LAN center around
http://www.tekrepublik.net/. Which I would be so down because I live like 2 miles from it. They held the DoD:S LAN there a few years ago, so I guess it's possible.

VEGAS IS A TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE idea.
Ok, its cheap to fly into vegas, and it might be cheap to get some kind of hall somewhere, where its def going to be a byoc.
1) I don't want to bring my own shit other than some headphones and a mouse/mouse pad.
2) Vegas is EXPENSIVE on the weekends. If the day clubs have redic prices to get into, you can spend 60 bucks to go a club/lounge. I wanna frag, but I really just wanna see a bunch of you nerds and hit up a place.
3) We can't take over places around vegas, its the city of sins. We can't mob something and pretend we own the place (ill explain later).
4) There is so much to do in vegas that we might bump heads and split up into some clicks. Like I'm def gonna wanna gamble, etc.
Reasons why austin is a really good idea.
1) Its in the middle of the usa.
2) Bars gotta be cheaper than anything in nyc or vegas
3) Anything can be used as a pick up line... ANYTHING, just fucking lie about it. Women are so DTF in texas. And if we have even 15+ people on the same page you have complete control of the place, meaning people will come up to us and ask questions. The local folks love people out of state because its something new.
4) It allows people who live by austin to hook some shit up, I don't care how many people you know in vegas there are going to be tons of them trying to just dive in your pocket. Don't we have any nerds in the area?
NH is dumb, vermont is dumb (i like it cause I snowboard and sky dive there), portland!? (I always wanted to visit it but its to far out there) CHICAGO... no ( chicago is a city I've always wanted to visit, but not lan, it will be another new york where everyone will get split up) Austin is perfect, its not too big and its not to small (thats why i liked knoxville, everyone stayed in the same hotel, you can pull that off in austin)
