are the move ups already finalized? i just checked and noticed a team from the main finals wasn't moved to invite, but a newly created aimless team was.. is there a reason why? playing the same 5 teams every season can get old.. just a thought. main looks more fun than invite! playing a variety of teams is always good in my opinion.

two problems here mr. graf:
1) skill level between teams isn't balanced as main division clearly have invite players blended in mid level teams. unfortunatelly there are no intermediate division due to lack of teams (we tried to that last season but thanks to poeple bitching around, teams died)
2) people want to play but they're also dont want to be shitted. playing against better teams and get spanked isnt what average people want. I personally think that in a competitive game what matter most is playing against the best but, well, this is my opinion and the majority of people here thinks otherwise - they just want have fun.
about aimless situation, they aren't a new team. they were always been there (they've just not played last division but they played in season 25) and they have invite caliber players like hutch and neur0se (and other t2w players will join for sure). they're not a main level team.

I agree with taylor (and not because im on his team) yeah playing the same teams over and over again gets pretty old. Yeah! dod is old and what is there to really expect? However, I don't mean to be harsh, but I don't think main players play for fun if there is a 14 page thread about someone rating in a match, to me that sounds pretty serious. I think scrims and 12 mans are the "play for fun" aspect of the game, but when you sign up for a league expect to be competitive and by that means play to get better! Teams in main, I'm sure at first probably won't have fun at all, but at least there's more diversity of play, which in turn creates new things to learn from the higher tier players. I play dod to get better and try and win whatever competition i'm involved in. With all the shit talking this community does to each other , its hard for me to even believe that some of us play just for fun. My point in short is, main should be combined into invite because it has more of a chance for teams to get better, more diversity = more excitement, possibility of some upsets, and its a reason for teams to practice more because there is more competition which SHOULD make people want to play more! If you want this game to be competitive and a bit more alive , you should set a standard for people to try and reach, having a challenge is fun. I think this would make some people want to play more so they could get better and compete, more scrims and 12 mans. How often is it you see FULL teams looking to scrim? Its hardly ever, I would wonder if this would fix this. Look at the success of other games in the past , cs was much more alive, longer, because being the best meant something, practicing as a team and winning the division you were in was challenging yet fun. ESEA, a pug based system, is for the fun aspect of cs , and for the off team , more individual practice(MUCH like our 12 mans) I'm not saying we could revive dod completely with this, but for the time being it could be more fun. Of course this move would possibly move some main teams down into lower , not just shift them all to invite or w.e it would be called.

yeah i agree with greetz and graf, i think there are definitely teams in main that should be moved up but i would say maybe 2, instead of combining the divisions. i mean that would basically be like reverting back to a couple of seasons ago where we just had upper and lower. worked fine then but i feel like theres a good amount of people coming back and forming teams.
and its not like theres not teams in main with players who have played against nearly everyone in invite. i know alot of them may claim to be "washed up" but i would still think itd be fun for them to play with everyone in invite. i know you guys said youre just wanting to play for fun at this point. cant you guys still have a good time in invite? if its a matter of winning or losing matches based on your division, i would much rather win a hard-fought/intense match each week than just having fun shitting on teams you should beat every week

Radical idea here, but why not just combine the two and form teams via a draft? In addition to playing the same teams repeatedly, there is little to no parody in Invite, as each season the best teams are THUNDER and one other team, while the rest tend to take their turns getting shitstomped by the top teams and playing more competitive matches with the rest. Unfortunately, some people will only want to play with friends or not want to play with people they dislike.

idk, i feel like the process of forming teams and getting to know your team over the course of a couple seasons (if you can keep them together) is what makes it fun. every season theres always teams that are changing and reforming to get the right people together. i think a draft would take away from that. and a draft would also focus more on players than on forming a team as a whole.
and i wouldnt say invite is always fight between 2 teams. its usually been about 3 lol, even when everything was much less active. this past season there were 4 with thunder, koalas, drugs and owned all up there

Did anyone think owned or koalas could beat thunder though? At this point there isn't much that can really be done to make it particularly competitive, so we should just enjoy what we have.

i didnt play last season so im not sure. but from the matches i watched of koalas and with their roster, they had a similar mix of players as iwa had when we beat thunder twice in one season. i didnt expect koalas to beat them but thought the match might be close. (if koalas had austin, invite in the bag

tbh no one other than a few (me included) thought but they had a pretty solid game against them and almost won, losing on the last minutes... but I'd rather lose to thunder, akk or drugs every season than win mid-level teams through 8 weeks. competitivity doesnt mean winning everytime but to have challenges... or do you think that subpar teams in every major sport tournament have chances of winning?

This issue is this:
People like to win.
People like their friends.
People like to have fun.
We need to differentiate the people in the community. Polls/surveys need to be implemented.
If this idea of a combined division were to take place and everyone voted "for" the idea, the concept of a draft would be the best one. All this talk of an amazing LAN incoming next year sparks discussion and ideas.
What is the current state of competitive DoD?
Should TPG have direction? (Fun or competitive?)
Instead of basing the draft process on "who knows who best", the community votes for the designated captains. Then a ranking system comes into place when selecting players for their team.
eg.

Peer and self evaluation can come into play here with a simple survey/poll format.
Just some ideas that come to mind. Discuss.

This will be my first time playing in a league in three years, I really don't care what division I am in. Do I expect to win, no not at all. The appeal to me is playing with a bunch of my old teammates and a couple of buddies I have met over the years. I would like to see a larger division, but I can also see where the Leroy's of the dod world would be outraged.

Who actually wants to play the league as a draft? This tournament alone is a disaster, and a season of that would probably kill off half of the community.
I only play this game two days a week, if that. If match nights turned out to be playing with even two people who I don't enjoy playing with...why show up? I don't play this game anymore to win the division. I play it to spend some internet time with the people I've known for years.

Three people
(1 starter, 2 back up) from the WINNING MAIN TEAM are on this roster. That's not really fair to all the other players now is it? Yes they are decent, yes they can hold their own... what about the other players though. I don't think it's fair to them to be put into invite and be completely shit stomped. All that's asking for is one less team in TPG. We really just want to have fun, and play with our small group of friends. Put us in invite sure whatever, but we are bound to sit in corners prone and be completely gay.

You guys are crazy, you can't create incentive for individuals to play more just by reshuffling the the talent.
This is a very small community, and so the subtle variants in how people play the game and how "serious" they take it are going to show themselves no matter what you do.
Because our player base is so small, we are always going to have 1-2 teams that will be mostly dominant in their division, be it open, main, or invite.
This has been a problem for the community for such a long time, the notion that Leagues, be it STA, CAL, or TPG, can in any way influence the organic growth or contraction of the competitive community and it's skill base.
This, is simply not true. There is nothing TPG can do to make people "care" more or less about playing.
All a particular league can do is sort through the wreckage as best they can, and try to match up teams in as balanced a way as possible, and I think the TPG admins doing a damn good job of it given the circumstances.
The same goes for trying to organize a LAN for next year. There is very little that I or anyone else can do to influence the activity level of the community, or influence the number of teams who may/or may want to attend such an event. All we can do is try to come up with the best event we can think of that might incentivize the greatest number of players to attend. If the player base is organically there, and the demand for a tournament high enough, it will happen. If not, it won't. It's that simple.

the idea of a draft, i'm sorry, is a terrible idea. i still play now a days to play with the guys i've been playing with for years. if it turned to a draft, i more then likely would hang up my dod boots. but most of all i love yelling in vent and annoying sean with my constant bitching about how bad the other guy who just killed me is.
is thunder the best team every season? realistically yes, we lost a couple seasons back, and still lose 1 or 2 matches every season. but this just shows how the community has changed over the years. even back in 08/09, there were teams that wanted to beat us simply because we are a challenge to play against. but for some reason now everybody would rather show up and stomp people in lower divisions, just so they don't have to lose against us.
in all honesty, the matches where we shit stomp people are the least fun to play. its the matches against koalas/iwa, drugs, and sometimes a few other teams, where we have the most fun. understandable that the game is old and most don't want to practice much or anything, but why not have a challenge and move up? would just make it funner to play

team binary belongs in main if we wanted a higher caliber team like we intended on doing and succesfully accomplished like last season we would have done so. I don't really like to sit back while my team plays. When I had Ghad... I played before I parted ways with that team. When I had Bovice, I still played. i honestly dont even see how taking it seriously or not should be an issue...everyone has a competitive nature in them, why not want to be the best or one of the best? and have fun while doing so. if more people used their competitive nature im sure this game would be a lot more fun to play for a good majority of us.....and don't try saying you don't have a competitive nature, we all know we're guilty of getting worked up mid-game if you're losing to a team you really dislike or want to beat. or the one match where you're supposed to get crushed and you're leading with 10 minutes left in the 2nd half.

I'm the only one that played that season, and I suck so...if you want to kill a team move us up. Furthermore, if you move us up considering only 1/8th of the team won main, you should move up 2nd and 3rd place winners mvpz and 3h. At least give us some competition in invite.

i don't know about having a draft for the league.. i just think it's fun playing different teams with different play styles.. sure the admins did the best job possible putting the best 7 teams in invite, but main really seems a lot more fun.. last season my team got two forfeits in invite.. one for a bye on lennon (one of my favorite maps -.- ), and one because dgf died or something.. i'm not denying the skill gap.. there has always been a skill gap in dod divisions.. it'd just be more fun with more teams in the best division.

I have no sympathy for the ridiculous threats of, "if you want to kill a team, move us up." Then quit fucking playing, and you won't be missed.
If your team dies, then a new one with the remaining players who still want to play will form. Shogun, Airnick, stile, badnewspanda, Pat, etc. are all semi-free agents and would make a team in the event you guys die.
If you don't want to play, canteen/court/taylub, feel free not to. But if you think the threat of 2-3 players giving up DoD is more important than running a fair, decent league, then you're mistaken. Again, you won't be missed. You just aren't important enough to sway the right decision of moving you up (no one is).
You belong in invite. Sorry you won't win invite, sorry you'll lose some matches by a lot. Boo hoo.

Maybe have one big division, 18 teams start the season, if you have a 16 team playoff where the first round will decide the Invite and Main brackets (or call them something completely different ex. GOLD SILVER playoffs). Using the 1 vs 16 format, all the winners of the first round would make it to the Gold playoffs and all the losers would move down to the Silver playoffs. Then you would have 8 in each bracket to compete for the titles. At the end of the season your gonna have only 2 teams not making the playoffs and with the 1 v 16 there is a chance to have upsets. It also creates extra opportunity to the teams that lose in the first round.
I dont really care if I get shit stomped in 1 or 2 weeks aslong as people play the matches its always fun. It will also help with meeting players you have never played with/against. Lastly I think it will make for a very very interesting final week of the season, so many seeds would shift around and have people on the TPG site waiting to see who they will play in the first round.
2cents.

Just make it upper and lower. This 3 division stuff where the hole division makes the playoffs is silly. Whats the point of the regular season or the first round of the playoffs at that point?
The Draft idea is no good cause 8th, 9th and 10players picked on rosters don't ever get to play. I played 4 minutes of 1 out of 3 matches...fun. Sure its my fault I'm only worthy of an 8th round pick but I didn't sign up not to play.

lol @ mvpz being moved up. Check our roster first before you say such ridiculous statements. Pat left our team and we are back using rwtkc. We clearly do not belong in invite. a Roster consisting of schimggs, me, narc, ace, rwc, random 6th belong right where we r.
