Recently I've been playing through Fallout: New Vegas. It seems to have caused some problems with my computer.

Whenever a sound is being played, but gets cut off (such as turning a song off without pausing it first, or closing a browser window that has a youtube video playing), it starts a loud, constant buzzing sound that won't cease until I adjust the volume via the system tray icon or play a new sound file.

I tried reinstalling my audio drivers but the problem persists.

Also, my mouse4 and mouse5 buttons don't seem to work properly. Sometimes they'll work and sometimes they won't. They might work in dod for awhile but not work when browsing the internet, or vice versa.

Any help is appreciated.

Are you done with F:NV? In that case, uninstall the game, I've gotten that problem with some steam games.

If you have an old pos sound card laying around, plug it in and see if the problem still persists.

If you are using onboard sound, disable it in device manager before plugging in the other card.

If you don't have that option, uninstall your sound card drivers, go into safe mode and run this:

Select the appropriate drivers related to the sound that you want to remove.

Install a fresh download of the latest available drivers for your sound card. See if you still have the issue.

The same could be applied to your mouse if checking the settings in your mouse program haven't worked (logitech, microsoft, ect)

If its an old mouse, buy a new one! MX518s are cheap as shit.

I replaced the video card in my computer a week ago, using the stock PSU. Since then, I have issues with my USB mic going nuts and certain games causing the computer to cutt off... obviously I need a bigger power supply. I'm wondering if maybe your problem could be an issue with power.

So, first off, is your computer a laptop or a desktop?

It's a laptop.

My mouse is a Logitech Performance MX.

My sound is some generic shit I dunno. IDT High Definition Audio

Its more than likely power related. If your computer crashes while running games than its because the components are requiring more power to ramp up its performance and its just isnt getting it so it fails. Since your playing from a Laptop I dont really know if its fixable.

It also may be overheating if freezing instead of just straight-up shutting off.

Id be suprised if it was an issue with the power but I guess it could be. Most laptops that run IDT have integrated sound. Rob, you said you tried reinstalling the driver but did you let Windows do this for you or did you go to the factory (dell, hp, compaq, etc) or Intel website and download their version of the driver? Ive had problems in the past with my old Dell and Gateway laptops when updating the sound and video drivers through Windows instead of doing it through the intel or factory sites.

A last resort could be trying to use system restore. But again if its a hardware issue then that won't do you any good.

I highly doubt that this is a power issue since you probably didn't change anything in your hardware configuration. if the whole system freeze while playing without giveing you a respones it could be a heat problem, e.g. if a game need too Mich resources of a component bit this shouldn't apply for sound, more or less only CPU and graphic.
you could try two things dowloading the ms developer tool and read the informations in the mini dump files after a system crash and the 2nd is too download some hardware testing tools, this should be a bootable cd mostly Linux based couse you can't run your system and test the components its on.
you also should check if you useing the drivers from the components producers companys regularly the driver links on the laptop manufacturer hps aren't up to date or some wired customs. you should also check your registryif the problem occures after installing some other software, but this pretty hard to do since you need extended knowledge of it, here you can destroy your OS so be careful, maybe some regestry cleaning tool like ccleaner or tuneup utillities can help there.
