Holy shit. Someone re-registered the domain and actually brought this thing back to life?! That's incredible.
However, it's kind of uncool having "escher" as one of the staff. I hope that was done to reserve the name so no one else would jump on it, but still make me tweak a bit. Sort of giving the site some false credibility. If possible, I'd love to take the name over (not any responsibilities or powers or whatnot).
Crazy.

Either you guys are trusting, or someone looked at my email address and recognized the name.
Regardless, I'll post something on gotfrag under my escher account (once they email me my password reset) just to help confirm.

Haha. I meant to deactivate that account a long time ago.
When I first redid the site, I hacked the
old version back together. I made an account for you and used it to back up all the old news posts that I could find. I had just forgotten to delete it when we moved over to wordpress.
We also had a fake Profiction account with like 165,000 posts.

Topic CAL
Two CAL matches to report this time around.
"Last week, we played Neo Hunting Nation on dod_chemille, a topsy-turvy map that alot of people dislike. The map has handed out upset after upset in CAL and UGS, and hasn't been very kind to us, either. Couple the map with the fact that we didnt scrim a single time for the match, and in fact, barely even played dod, and you get NHN raping us like no one's business."

When I wrote that, DoD really WAS dying. The transition from Beta to Retail was a rough time. It was really buggy, there was a huge influx of n00b players, and the clan community was majorly at odds with the pub community. People were leaving in droves. Clans were folding every day. League match forfeits were commonplace. It became difficult to field enough guys for a match.
It was a FAR cry from the Beta days. The heyday of clanning in DoD. The game played better, and the people were just... better. I'm talking the pre-CAL days, when STA was the league to play in.
From my point of view, back then, it seemed pretty hopeless...
Even though I haven't been around in, oh, 8 years, i bet I wouldn't be too far off the mark to say it's still not like it used to be.

I was just giving you a hard time. I don't think any of the original beta players disagreed at the the time (myself included). I had largely quit playing, and was declaring the same sentiment (dod is dead) by the time Fragmart happened in August of 2003. But in reality, the community actually grew exponentially post retail, peaking with about 4000 active players in mid 2005 before the last cpl/wsvg. Then falling off dramatically in 2006 when CAL crashed and burned.
I kind of view the pre-retail and post-retail as almost two entirely different communities, as the community in large part totally changed as new players came in from 2003-2005 to replace all of the beta players that left in droves. There are very few of us original beta players that are still involved with the community today. But to me, it won't ever be the same as it was when we were tuning in to [KWI]Gen.Warbuff's shoutcast as sac| stuck it to 101st for like the 10th time in the STA finals. So yeah, I feel your pain.

I started playing in leagues a long while after you all are talking about, but I can remember watching WW2.0 between SK-FR and 101st on caen with 2MGs and 2snipers on both teams. I don't remember if it was even close but it felt epic watching it. I also thought cneato had the coolest name ever because it looked like cheato.

Finally someone else acknowledging that Killers With Issues exists. Everytime I talk to anyone else who played back in 3.1b they're like "Nope, never heard of them." Merc and Astyanax were pretty amazing, they were basically my #1 pub rivals.
