Family emergency has me moving back to texas in a week.

Where is a good point break? gonna die without the ocean being 5 minutes away.

hahah, oh god texas surf sucks... We've been blessed with a few northern storms over the past month.. Sunday before work around 7-9am in corpus christi I caught 4-5ft clean nearly standup barrels down here off a sandbar that's being created from a dredge pumping sand out there.... Ummm... you're in dallas so that's a solid 6hrs (if you're looking at galveston which sucks so bad) or 8-10hrs (north padre(where I am)/ or south padre) for a decent beach... If you wanna make a day trip, go to South Padre Island.. Port Izze Jetties are already really clean and strong, and starting tonight (saturday) and going thru saturday, they're predicting 5-8ft surf with offshore winds depending on where you're at...


plus the water has already warmed up.. it's march 1st(2nd, whatever) and when I surfed this afternoon before work I donned a springsuit because the water was 65 and the sun was out.. just watch out for the friggin Portuguese man of wars, seems like it's their time because I've seen hundreds washed up on the beach and so far I've manged to wrap 2 around my feet because I don't have booties on my wetsuit :\

if you do make it down to corpus at some point though, send me a pm and I'll give you my cell.. sadly I work all the fucking time and it breaks my spirit, but the times I'm not at work you can usually find me in my truck with the surf rack on top/boards and smoking/surfing on the beach... sick life

ps.. there is no good "point break" loooooool....

dredged beach breaks and jetties are about the best you'll get.. however south padre island with a good winter storm/summer hurricane REALLY fires...

yeah if you go to Galveston and try to surf, i would watch out for the large piles of trash floating around

haha... Galveston gets ok on a storm surge from a hurricane but even than, it's still a longboard wave with how it breaks... I've surfed Galveston a few times, it's fun and slow, but ugh... the entire texas coast, you gotta be willing to dodge the pile of mexican trash in the lineup as you're making your bottom turn to be considered a texan surfer

leaving texas helps for sure.. I want to go to mexico this summer but we'll see... Texas surf generally sucks, however if you learn to surf in Tx you can pretty much adapt and surf anywhere since getting into the waves is harder (much weaker with 6-9sec period wind swells not generating much force) and ability to be patient and sit in the lineup and wait for that right set wave also winter in texas is fun, was getting standup barrels here last sunday morning before work, was a nice 2hr window from sunrise until 9 where the tide/offshore wind was just right.... but besides the tropical storm/hurricane swell, youre better off longboarding in texas most the time.. I think my shortboard sits in my truck the majority of the time and I take my 9'6 out.. oh well

to those saying no surf in texas.. this is my home break, winter of course with a northern front pushing in and shifting winds offshore... we get good surf at times, I swear

if ur in texas james, well the next 2-3 months are usually filled with head high (sloppy as hell windblown) surf, but after that, the summer is so flat... 2ft clean days are fun in the summer for nose riding and pullin helicopters, that's about it.. if ur gonna drive the 8hrs to north padre island however to surf, id say go the extra 90mins and go to south padre.. when you go/wanna hit it up, i'll be willin to make a trip south and I have a 4x4 with surf racks on top of my trooper

My heart has just been broken in 8 different ways. I finally made it out here, but I didn't bring any boards. I figure if I do happen to do down there, I'll just buy one. I wasn't about to drive from central cali to north dallas with boards strapped to the top of a 7th gen accord. I prefer being able to average 90mph on the interstates.

I think I've only been to a Texas beach once in my life, and I believe it was in Galveston. I don't remember much, other than bodyboarding some shitty 2 foot white water and stepping on something painful in the sand.

If I do happen to make a trip down there I'll let you know in advance, it'd be fun to surf with a fellow dod nerd.
