I agree that Hispanics are very bad tippers. Also blacks and curry smelling mother fuckers aswell. Ive worked valet and i could defiantly tell you it probably goes hispanic,black, indians tipping wise as far as my experience goes. Also alot of people dont understand untill they have been in the hospitality industry and know thats how we make our money.

Also been shafted by ALOT of white people. Till this day i remember the cars and what they look like.(people that were constantly bad tippers)

Exceptional service = 25-40%

Good service = 20-25%

Acceptable service = 15-18%

Shitty service = 0-5%

If you work in the service industry (bartender/server/vallet etc) then most likely you work for 2.13/hr or something similar.. My night depends on people, and I can get assfucked and make 30$ for 9hrs or 200 for those same 9 hours.. Just burns when you know it's the same service every night and you get boned to working for 5$/hr while trying to finish school. I personally think every person should work in the service industry to have some respect on how to treat other people, because I can guarantee you that the best tippers/easiest people to wait on are those who understand what the hell is going on.

Well, you should be aware that that's not how the service industry works throughout a lot of the world. Tipping is not prevalent throughout most of Latin America (at least according to the people I've spoken to who are native to LA countries) except as a way to make extra money off tourists.

Also, your employer is required to ensure that you earn at least the state-mandated minimum wage (7.25$ in Texas) by law, even if your base wage is $2.13/hr.

employers are mandated to do a lot of things, but they really don't. Tipping in europe is not the same either, but that's not how it works in the US so perhaps they should learn a thing or two (esp english goddamnit)

Well, if you're afraid of pissing off a restaurant by reporting them to the board that enforces that stuff, don't be. Systems are in place to enforce that shit, you can't blame anyone else if you're not using them. I don't know why people don't tip, but if you're making less than minimum wage, you really shouldn't be and you should take care of that. Tips are a luxury that a lot of people can't afford and you should be pissed at the restaurant for not compensating you fairly, not at customers for being unable to afford tips over the cost of dinner.

I live in a huge tourist town (Durango), and it is europeans who are the bad tippers, germans in particular. They all hide behind "they don't know they should tip" facade, but they all do. And schmiggs, 40% tip? are we talking bar or restaurant? I always seem to tip way more than I should at bars because I usually pay in cash and obviously had some beers in me, but I honestly would never even contemplate 40% at a restaurant.

in europe in some countrys there is a special fee on on the receip, for example in italy forceing to pay a tipp (there's regularly a position on declaring the coast for service something like 15%), in germany you got nothing like that or there is a note like sales and service included which means you regularly should tipp, as a tipp is some kind of free will thing a lot of people here give something on arround 10% for most things at least i do that since i know that the pay sucks in most service businesses but there are also a lot of greedy bastards over here seems to be some kind of mentality to save as much as you can.

As far as restaurants are concerned average tips here are at 10% rate, no less. It isn't obligatory also but everyone pays it. In some states, like Sao Paulo, it is facultative to the costumer increase 10% more, up to 20%, but I particularly never saw many people going up to that standard!

Good service is good service. I don't get it all the time, very rarely nowadays. When I do, I make sure the person who gave it to me is compensated for doing their job well.

dan - they're able to use your average for the week divided by your hours =7.25 min.. It's not that i'm afraid to piss off this place, I'm on the level of not even giving a shit and I'm one of the ones in charge so fuck it. I'm used to making a lot more cash flipping tables or drinks, and I know I'm good at this retarded job so there's some nights I'm frustrated as hell.. More at my most recent job then any previous one, I think I just need to move on and get back into the summer tourism service industry since it's comin up here anyway... Easiest way to make 20-25+ an hr giving people shit they already want

Also 10% is a horrible standard, you need to understand that at pretty much every restaurant, 2-3% of your sales, you are forced to pay in tipout. So when someone tips you 5$ on a 130 ticket, you made 1$? Well worth the 90 minutes of your time..

Europeans don't pay for tips because their servers are paid hourly and mostly don't give a shit, and an extra few dollars here and there means a bit more for them then in my case making 2.13 and getting a 4$ tip. I

I normally pay 20% for quality service and with kids an extra 5-10% for the mess they made that has to be cleaned up.

Same here, worked as a valet too and this was a trend. But like you said in the second post, it was pretty much across the board. And I did remember the cars and people who tipped well lol.

On a positive note, I just got my old job back and it was 1k/week min waiting tables or being behind the bar on padre island so fuck it, summer is here and fuck the mexicans cuz once they swim across the rio grande they don't like any large body of water.
