Someone on ventrilo last night was telling me that there's an issue with running DOD on newer machines and having it not work properly. My computer is one of those alienware laptops that came out around this time last year and should be able to run this game without a problem, but my game freezes and skips a lot when I play. Does anyone remember a thread or anything about it and how to resolve the issue?

I remember my last build having an issue with low FPS. I had to install some drivers that worked better with open GL.

Don't know if that's your issue, though.

I just built a new computer and it's working fine with the drivers that came with my 6850

Its probably a drivers issue, alot of times laptops will bottleneck because there gpu core and processor core are not seperate from one another like in a regular Desktop. Go to your steam folder and look for Dod.exe, and put that on adminstrator along with windows xp service pack 2. That may help your problem a little bit, and I would also lower your fps_max to about 75-80 and see how that helps along with the fps_modem to about 80-90.

The other thing though Is that if you want to play for tpg, I would make your rates of update rate of 70 and put your cmd rate of 75, with a rate of 25000. I read in a couple forums once on this that rates do apply to fps ingame from what I understood, when I had troubles like this on my old Desktop running a 250gts.

I was recently in a 12man with someone that had issues with the game unless the process priority of HL.exe was set to either low or high (sorry can't remember) and the process affinity was set to only run on one CPU core. If those were not set properly on his computer, his player model in game would move around very similar to a player with some sort of speed hack. (i.e. player would repeatedly move extremely fast for short period of time then freeze).

To set priority and affinity of a process. Hit ctrl-alt-del and start the task manager. Click on the "Processes" tab and the right click the process you want to alter. In your case it will be "hl.exe".

Not sure if this will work, just repeating what someone once told me. Good luck.

i actually just fixed a similar problem for myself. i had to play in 800 x 600 on my laptop, anything else and the game on almost every map would get suppppppppppppeeeerrrr choppy. heres what worked for me:

Data Execution Prevention

1 - Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance > Data Execution Prevention.

2 - Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"

3 - Select "Add", navigate to C:\Program Files\Steam (or your default Steam directory), and add Steam.exe to the exception list.

4 - Additionally, you will need to add the executable (hl2.exe, for example) for any game you are seeing issues with. These files will either be in Steam\steamapps\common\<Game Title> or in \Steam\steamapps\<Your Steam Account Name>\<Game Title>\

I've got Windows 7 and can't find Data Execution Prevention- any ideas? Thanks for the help. I'll try the other things. I have all new drivers installed and it hasn't seemed to fix the issues.

Help and support > search for "Data Execution Prevention"> follow instructions.

i have windows 7 too, goto control panel > system > advanced system settings > goto the advanced tab and click, under the performance section click settings > data execution tab then follow the instructions.

sorry i meant to actually put the correct path (steams isnt labeled correctly) but my small brain decided to let me forget to do so.

I find dod to be choppy and annoying on widescreen resolutions. I tried it but in the end i went back to 800x600.

That would still be a valid question, motive. We both know ryanemo has stopped using a monitor to actually make things challenging.

I think I remember seeing corey using that thumb ball mouse at WSVG back when he was really bad. Then he used a normal mouse on the last day and instantly got much better at DoD. Also, he was wallhacking.
