Server Worth it?

If hardly a lot of people scrim and the pubs out there are never filled with real people, is it worth it to get a server?
I'm willing to rent a server and give out the IP and everything, I'll just need some help with the configs and commands since I haven't touched this in probably 8+ years.
If it is worth it, best place to rent from?

Probably NFO servers, Its better to try and create your team and compete in tpg with a private server then it really is to pub these days. You can try to have a pub server, but alot of the pubs out there like BAW, 475th Merrils Maruaders, BAM, DFH, COR, War (prepare to get banned if your better then they are), Evil, have the most attention when it comes to pubbing.
I would try get yourself a team if you can as my first suggestion for TPG, Good luck though.

Considering his past clans, I'd say open would be a bit of a joke for this guy.

A pub isnt worth it, but private servers from NFO are 12.63/month with the 3 month plan, which is pretty fuckin cheap.

Badger is so old school that 101st doesn't even count as new school to him.
Everyone these days has an NFO server, and frankly people just complain about them. Maybe experiment with a couple different companies for a month, and see if you can find a really good one.
But TBH, everyone has access to a server. I'd find it a waste to pay 13 bucks a month.

Thanks for all the replies and input guys. Good to see this community is still active!
I'll probably try out the nfo server first, it does seem pretty cheap and if it's public and noone plays in it, that's fine we can at least use it for matches and probably scrims once we get to know more people that are around still, lol.

There's an article that was written about how these boosted servers are pretty useless after a certain point.
Maybe someone on here has the link, but yeah.
1000 fps practically no better than a 500

But it's like $30 more...it has to be better. IT HAS TO.

[38th] League Map Server
74.91.115.87:27015
[38th] League Map Server is now available for pub play. I will have the league map rotation on the server from the tpgleague website. I'll have to get some input on how to upload the "custom" ones because it only has the basic maps on the server right now. So if anyone wants to message me or post here. I'm relearning the rcon commands again.
And it's the 500 fps one not the 1000 lol. I'm not made of money! It's a central server but I'm getting around 20 ping being east coast.

you should hook up with sears and help him with the 1911 server instead of making 2 of them. I think they are getting some kind of pug mod going or its in development

Dude bro, 1911 already has a pub that no one uses. You could read all about it in the PUBLIC SERVER forum. It worked for awhile, but the problem with a pub for this community is the same it has always been, as soon as there are 12 people online at the same time, what's the point in pubbing? It's not 2004 anymore.
We are working on converting it to an automated 12-man server with a custom plugin, and that's why I dropped it from 21 to 13 slots.
I see very little reason in 38th paying for their own pub, unless you guys want to try and establish a pub community out of it or something...

Basically we got our server public so we can make it private when needed and to have the regular map rotation in. We basically just came back and every other map that played is some random ass map that you have to download.
We just wanted to put a server out there that has the map rotation for tpg. Since people don't really scrim, we figured they would be able to run around and hopefully play against other real people.
I saw the 1911 pub server and trust me, I was hesitant about paying for a server because if it doesn't get used, then I'm out money basically, but we can use it for match play as well.
Essentially I have 2 days as a trial. So if it doesn't work out or it seems like a loss, then I can just change it to a private server for our matches. It's just something we wanted to try out in case people enjoyed playing outside of matches.

People scrim/12man exponentially more than they pub. But it's not like it used to be, you can't just hop on irc and spam to find a scrim, your best bet is hanging out in the popular vents. You really shoulden't have much trouble finding 6 people to play you.
As far as the pub, it's not an issue of map rotation, as the server is set up to run totally on map vote. Whenever people play in there they just change it to harrington/anzio. But like I said, this community doesn't really pub anymore.

There is surprisingly more scrims and 12mans going on now than there has been in past few years. Just have to know the right people or be in the right vents i guess.

Alright, well basically it's all good then
We'll just have to suck up to the right people then to get the right vent's to hang out in. We're pretty much playing a few nights this past few days since 4/6 of us have gotten DoD. I'm hoping if people remember us, they will be willing to PM either myself, Spider, or razor the vent info's!

It's really not a popularity contest; the community has matured to that point it seems. As long as you're not a total jackass, you and your buds will be fine. I came back a while ago and everyone was very accepting and helpful. While me being unknown to most of the community, they tossed info my way, and I get a 12 man in every now and again. Hopefully my job changes to where I can play again, who knows?!
Goodluck!

Make sure to join the 12man steam groups as well:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/DoDscrimnetwork
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/12mandod
Just don't come to 1911 bitching about tiny popups every few hours letting you know there is a 12man going on while watching porn. Those complaints are not well received.

I used to have a gameservers.com cs server that I got on a special for 9.99 a month; it ran at 333 fps and other teams would constantly ask who the provider was because they liked the reg...
tldr: overpaying for more fps is stupid

On that note... how do you get the server OFF of the match config?
Tried exec the autoexec.cfg which included a server restart, still reboots in warmup mode.
Tried execing the server.cfg and various map.cfg's, tried letting the match play out, but it always ends up back in warmup mode.

I always just restart server, most servers are setup so if you just type rcon quit to stop server, it will automatically come back within a few seconds.
