TPG Season 29 Playoff Preview – Main

Season 29 is winding down to a close and some there were definitely a few surprises. First I must commend TPG and all of the teams in main, with 10 teams it definitely kept things fresh and competitive as not every team had a guaranteed spot in the playoffs. Throughout the season I do not think that people would have seen how things would have shaken out. With every season comes its surprises though, and as we enter the playoffs we are bound to see more. In my honest opinion any team in the playoffs have a chance to win this season championship, and all it will take is some skill, teamwork and a little bit of luck. Either way get ready for an exciting playoff.

In keeping with the competitive nature of this game, and hopefully to keep up interest, I managed to ask the teams from Main a series of questions in hopes of learning just a little bit more about them this season, and what we can expect.

Most Valuable Playerz - MVPz

Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?

defiance: This team has blown my expectations out of the water. Going into the season, I was hoping to be a .500 team. If you had told me we would have the record that we do, at the start of the season, I would have laughed at you. Every match someone different steps up big with either a key break or a nice streak, to keep us from falling behind. It’s a total team effort right now. On paper, we definitely aren't the most skilled roster in main, but I think we show that team work and communication are just as important as skill.

Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?

defiance: Definitely EVC. We were down by 3 caps with about 5 minutes left in the match, and somehow pulled it off. Ninja caps and good initials definitely helped us plow through those last 5 minutes. EVC is a very good team, probably the most skilled in the division, and I hope we are good enough in the playoffs, to play them again.

Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?

defiance: Obviously I have to spend a lot more time than most looking at rosters, so I didn't think there is anything too surprising. I feel as there are 5 teams in Main that can win the division and 2 more that are definitely difficult outs in the playoffs. The biggest surprise might be teamless, I definitely didn't expect them to be at the bottom of the standings.

Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?

defiance: Mike and Subject on rifles. Narc and defiance on the heavy. Shifty utility. Charles is the sniper.

Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?

defiance: I'm not going to speculate on that right now. We are taking things one match at a time.

Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?

defiance: Shout outs to traize and rwc for being there when we needed someone and to disturbed who had to leave us to go work on the oil pipelines in alaska.
I hope everyone enjoyed Season 29 of TPG, as always we are looking at ways to improve the league. There will be some changes next season, and if you have any ideas feel free to message defiance on steam. Good luck to all teams in the playoffs.

Evolution Cry Gaming – EvC

Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team performed?

B1ohazard: Hello! Firstly, I would like to Thank you for the awesome job you have been doing so far this season! I think EvC team performed just I expected! We had some issues during the regular season caused by lack of heavy’s. With “Kev” leaving the team after pre season, we only had one active heavy + one that show’s up when he could. That forced me playing with heavy as it was my duty. I didn’t perform well, and EvC suffered a lot with it! By other hand this season we added “NoName” which was a great reinforcement to the team.”SaCaMuelaX” & “Onax” were always regular players within the team and I’m always counting on their performances, so together we can lead EvC team to the wins. So, Overall is GREAT!

Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?

B1ohazard: Our difficult match is hard to judge by itself. All the regular season matches were difficult. Every team we played had arguments to force us to improve our team play and require us to sweat a lot. IMO NoGo was the most difficult match. They had put up a great fight, requiring from us changing tactic and complete concentration. Also, New Team was a great match, and if that match was more 5 minutes I didn’t surprised myself if they won it. Toggles were a nightmare for us at the begin of the season with “lowcarb” proning every corner with medium. Mvpz was a great match and I congratz them for the win, cause even playing vs a more skill wised team, they pull out a win somehow. Htk and Teamless are nice teams to play against.

Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?

b1ohazard: Well, to be honest none of the teams surprised me beyond Htk when them beat us last match of regular season. I can admit we didn’t expect that, even playing with backups. We already know that “senCe” & “Sean” could cause us trouble, but “Shoolta” with a great move made a fullcap, that EvC never recovered from it. The other teams we always expect a good fight. After our 1st season, we start noticing what most teams are capable of, and their strengths and weaknesses, so that’s why none of them surprised me/we.

Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?

b1ohazard: I hope somehow we get our “main” or “core” players onto every round. It’s hard to predict because it’s hard to put a team together at 3:00am in Europe. Some of our players sleep before matches. They show up only to play the match and they went to sleep right after the match ends, due to work duty. Well, I can advance that the players list should be like this except 1 or 2 rotations. b1ohazard;NoName;SaCaMueLaX;Kev;Evans/Piojo;Onax

Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?

b1ohazard: To be honest, and because I’m always trying to improve and get better and better, even in my professional life I’m always ambitious and look forward to do great things. I do believe most of EvC team as the same thoughts and the same ambition towards the game. The funny and greatest part it’s to see people committed to playing a “10 year old game”. Even knowing that we just play this game for fun, EvC players make “sacrifices” every Sunday night when we had TPG match. They show up even before the schedule time, so we can have a great laugh together and I think that is the most grateful part of a team beyond winning. I wish this feeling last for long as it takes.
I do believe that EvC are getting stronger each season by learning from the mistakes we commit during past season(s). So, I’m expecting EvC to grow up with past issues and turn it into advantages in future seasons.

Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs

b1ohazard: To finishing this I would like to Thank all EvC members for always being such a great people during this TPG attempt. As I said it’s hard to manage this somehow to be successful in this campaign. Would like to underline that is difficult to many of us getting in here playing at 3:00am. As far as I know people are enjoying it and I hope N.A. teams respect us for this. I also like to Thank people and teams who received us well, and let us be part of this great community. Hope people still doing each job in order to keep things rolling, so “we” can still enjoy playing this game for many more years. I couldn’t finish this until I shout-out LOUD for those who choose me as 1st pick in 12 man!  <3

NoGo Gaming Faction – NoGo!

Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?

Tony Compton: Unfortunately, I've been rather unreliable for most of the season. Luckily we have a solid core group of players that stayed committed to fielding six and managed to go 5-3. Two of those losses I wasn't around for, and the loss to mvpz was two minutes from being a win. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with our performance.

Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?

Tony Compton: Mvpz on lennon was definitely a barn burner. It was back and forth all match and besides some excessive proning in apartments, was one of the more fun matches I've played in a long time. I didn't think they would beat us on one of our stronger maps, so props for that.

Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?

Tony Compton: mvpz going undefeated was a bit of a surprise to me, especially after their preseason performance (0-2 I think?) but the euros at EVC probably deserve the biggest surprise award. 2nd in Main and beating us on a euro players dream map (solitude) is no easy feat.

Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?

Tony Compton: That's kind of the magic question at this point and one we've been dancing around every week. It's safe to say you'll see any combination of myself, Mino, Khoi, ace, sPo0n, bluerevolver, apple, or andy "emeryville crip" sheen.

Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?

Tony Compton: Probably the same cluster fuck of inactivity, roster issues, and lack of overall hustle as we fumble our way through another day of defeat season into 2013. God damn that feels weird to say :/

Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?

Tony Compton: Thanks for being consistent with these write ups/preds and toxinator has a needle dick.

New Team - TBA

Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team performed?

Stealth: I think we are all a little upset with how we've played so far this season. We had a lot of roster issues throughout all eight weeks, using backups at some times more than most starters. Going in to the season we expected element and xpx to be starters. Both of which played three and one matches, respectively. Since then, we also lost hildebrand as a starter to Sunday night hockey. With a last minute pickup of Miller and Insane helping out by starting the last 3 weeks, we all feel a little bit better about playoffs.

Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?

Stealth: We've had so many strange occurrences week-to-week, from using 3 backups to playing against a team of 4 ringers, that it's hard to pick. I think our matches against EvC and toggles stand out among the rest. Both matches came down to the wire and, in my opinion, those are always the most fun. If I had to pick, I'd go with EvC mainly because lowcarb is bad and proned for 39 minutes straight.

Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?

Stealth: Teamless surprised me quite a bit on solitude. They had excellent teamwork with impeccable grenades. I'm also surprised mvpz is going into week 8 undefeated. I've never seen a rifle prone as much as some of them. Not to mention them resorting to capping out on us with 5 because they wouldn't answer a simple yes/no question.

Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?

Stealth: Joel "so many cats" Edmunds, Matt "mogers" Rogers, Andrew "ao" Olson, Ben "InSaNe" Riopelle, Miller "miller" Miller (I still don't know your name, sorry =[ ), and myself.

Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?

Stealth: Joel and I have been on the same team for the past 6 seasons or so. If I'm remembering correctly, we made it to the finals 5 of the 6 times. In regards to half of this team being 3h, Matt, Joel, and I had a finals run, championship, and then I'm pretty sure we did awful our 3rd season together. I'll leave it with this - we had a rocky season so far, but we intend to get our act together and bring our A-game.

Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs

Stealth: Shout-outs to:
- Scott spire for playing the first half of the season for us and coming whenever he was called upon.
- Other people on our team that played matches and I can't remember.
- Yaso for either ringing or agreeing to ring in 90% of our matches.
- Defiance for being a little bitch and thinking we lost half our matches on purpose to stay in main. Here's to hoping we play you in playoffs!

- Oh, and Sp|dEr for actually sticking out an entire season and doing predictions and other articles. Cudos to you, sir!

38th - [38th]

I know it sounds kind of hokey to answer these myself, but I will do so anyway to keep the continuity.

Overall I am happy with the team that we have assembled. We enjoy the game and do not take it too seriously. While we may not have had some of the best success as we thought we would have, I am definitely chalking that up to the need for scrimming. Also last season the people I started this team up with this season, rauch, artex, razor, hadn’t played in almost 5 years, so going from open to main I think is a successful team to date lol.

The team which really surprised me, just like most people I think, was MVPz. Honestly there are other teams where the individual skill of the players is better, but they are definitely the most consistent as a team.

It really depends on who shows up and who wants to win. Right now we have a core group of players who have showed up to play consistently all season, myself, eneg, the bear, rauch, razor, nunz, 3sidedquarter, majl, and joshinator. I am happy and enjoy playing with all of these great guys.

After playoffs I honestly hope that all the guy’s return for the next season. With who showed consistently this season I think getting a set roster and having backups will be the best way to go, and hopefully get some scrims throughout the week for a little bit more practice, but we will have to see how it goes.

Definitely a shoutout to all of the past 38th players, there are a lot more than people think! Also to sears for posting my dribble from week to week, and everyone who manages to read them. Definitely shoutout to nunnz for helping me with preds, and being a great guy, and cAss for helping with invite preds as well. Also shoutout to 3sided quarter for joining the team late in the season!! And of course to the rest of my team, eneg, razor, rauch, majl, bear and joshinator!

Kevlar Soul - -_^KS^_-

Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?

Jeremy Lin: With the lack of skills and team chemistry, KS did pretty well considering our skill level is far below than any other teams in tpg-main.

Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?

Jeremy Lin: The 5v6 against toggles was interesting, but I can't define it difficult. They had one man down, but we were also playing a man down considering the frags of the match was so low. I'll probably have to give it to EVC match on Lennon_b2 (Jlin didn't play but still)

Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?

Jeremy Lin: MVPZ. 7-0 really? I can see a quick upset in the playoffs though judging from score differences

Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?

Jeremy Lin: Most likely Jeremy Lin – Rifle, Fail Aka Chen – Rifle, Gohan - Rifle/Smg
Hybrid Aka Hx – Sniper, Tony Montana - Heavy (If the idiot shows up), Wolf's Rain/Coffee - Heavy

Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?

Jeremy Lin: We're like the Charlotte Bobcats. Recruiting foreigners~ Maybe upset maybe not.

Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?

Jeremy Lin: Defiance is an idiot. Shout outs to Jarrod and Frank~

Hard to Kill – htk

I unfortunately did not receive any response from a representative of htk. If, and when I do, I will edit the post and update with their responses.

Now while I know it is a playoff preview, I took the time and asked all teams in the division, and believe that no matter what their voice should be heard.

Subpar at Best – SaB

Sp|dEr: Now that this season is over, what are your overall opinions on how your team preformed?

Avenger: I think we did as well as expected, in both IM and M. We don't really scrim as a team much, if at all.

Sp|dEr: What was your most difficult match of this season?

Avenger: I think I’d have to say our match vs EvC on lennon. They played very well and seemed to always have control of every area of the map despite our best efforts. Personally I found it very frustrating so that match gets my vote.

Sp|dEr: What teams surprised you this season in your division?

Avenger: Probably goes to EvC again, I hadn't played any of their team up until the match so the only thing I had to go by was their record. If we were going to win I thought it would wind up being close but I felt pretty confident we weren't going to win. I didn't however expect to get stomped as bad as we did, think we lost by almost 300 points, gg

Sp|dEr: Going into the playoffs what will your starting line-up be?

Avenger: probably the same its been for the past 3 or so matches and what it’s pretty much been all season except for one change which was k4b00m replacing Sean (naes) who I think vanished.

Sniper - Yaso
Rifles - Knuckles/Fifty/Unreal
Heavies - k4b00m/avenger

Sp|dEr: Looking past playoffs, what can we expect from your team next season?

Avenger: Probably the same thing as this season. A half assed attempt at playing dod in a competitive fashion. No team scrims, 12 manning here and there and the most important thing, lots and lots and lots of WoW. Probably more WoW than 12 mans.

Sp|dEr: Any comments, or shout-outs?

Avenger: Shout-outs? Really?

TeamLess – TeamLess

Ha. Whoops. Disregard my entire answer.
