Hey i just updated steam and it dumped a bunch of files onto my desktop and says I need to install all my games. I have all my games installed, but I don't know why it's doing this and I don't know how to fix it to recognize the folder that all my steam shit is in. Any help will be much appreciated. I did try contacting steam support already, but this email they are supposed to send me is taking way to long.

probably stored in your registry. open regedit and do a "Find" for "steam" and see if you can find anything pointing to your desktop. change it to point to your actual steam install and restart steam.
also, i doubt steam would do this. might want to do a virus scan while you're at it.

regedit is a run command allowing you to edit your windows registry. you needn't download anything.

Okay I solved the problem. My shortcut on my desktop must have changed cause I went into my steam folder and opened up steam from there and I logged in fine and it recognized all my games as installed. So I deleted my old shortcut and created a new one on my desktop and everything seems back to normal. Thanks for the response scorch.
