today i checked my mail and got one of these.

And I'm pretty sure i downloaded the second episode last sunday aswell. Has anyone ever gotten one of these before or know how serious this may be?

I've seen a couple of these. Never heard of them following up, ever.

HBO is known to track public torrents and send out automated notices to ISPs. They are mostly meant as scare tactic.

6 strike policy. After a few you will have to start acknowledging them before they will remove the web throttling.

Use Peerblock and all the good lists from http://www.iblocklist.com

Problem solved.

It's nearly impossible for them to press charges on one incident like that. Consider it like a light warning. They won't do anything.

Turning on transport encryption will significantly lower the chance of getting any emails from your ISP. As soon as I enabled it I stopped receiving emails/warnings from my isp.

or you can just stop using public torrents...then you don't have to worry about anything

This right here... and as someone else already mentioned, get Peer Blocker, you can actually see who's trying to track what you're downloading. Pretty interesting seeing the Chinese police connected to these torrents

Wrong. You act like it's impossible for LEO/RIAA/MPAA etc. to get into a private tracker. You do know that it's super easy to buy/trade for invites to any private tracker, right? The only way to really protect yourself is by either using a VPN of some sort, or by using a seedbox. Peer Guardian/Peer Block and all the other IP blocking/filtering tools are useless at securing you, they just keep away the obvious stuff. All it really does is hurt you since you're blocking off huge ranges of IPs.

Taylor, as far as legal ramifications go, don't worry about the letter. The problem is, Comcast is run by faggots so they're probably already throttling your connection, may want to look into that. I've gotten tons of C&D letters over the years, and never had anything happen.
