seems like all the invite main players dont like the idea. and all the IM open players do. theres your answer. just dont get jelly when we got scrims/matches up the ass when u guys are posting "6v6 pm us" all evening.

Double Elimination turns 3 weeks of playoffs into 6 weeks. Seems a tad too long considering it's a 10 week season. Invite looks like it might be down to 6 teams soon.. Imo. Best of 3 for finals.. First two matches get played on the first sunday and if a 3rd is needed it gets played the next week.

I like the idea of double elimination however with the season already 10 weeks plus playoffs that already seems long enough. If season was 8 week or 7 double wouldn't bother me. Either way w.e is best for community i'm down.

The idea of double elimination is great, and obviously preferable to single elimination.
But, with the season being 10 weeks long, being delayed multiple times by holidays and what not, and the turbulence of people being less active because it's spring/summer with a few teams already not making it through the season, it doesn't seem to me like this is the best season to try and implement it.
However, I think it's worth looking at doing it in future seasons. An 8 week season (no pre-season) with a double elimination playoff would be really fun.
I also like jared's idea of doing the finals 2 out of 3.

Although I don't play in league play all too much anymore, I think the bo3 for the finals (maybe the semis as well?) is a really good idea.

To everybody saying, "this season was ten weeks long, it'd be so long with double elimination." Usually seasons have eight weeks, plus two of preseason and playoffs. That adds up to a ten week season and then playoffs...

You do realize there is the potential to have 9 weeks of playoffs if each round was best of 3 and we played 1 match per week (although very slim chance but a possibility). That would just be absolutely chaotic and idiotic to do. You'd have some teams sweep while other teams have to sit around and wait for consolation matches. Not every team can play more than one match per week. Why would we inconvenience teams at the most important point of the season? Imo. Best of 3 finals and do all 3 matches in a 2 week span. Well, it just don't make sense for me granting the finalists the chance of maybe throwing an upset and not granting the other finalists the same rules too. Frankly, at this point of DoD, the more matches the better. Even if it turns down to more weeks of playoffs. That means more matches after all. Then, in between the semi and finals, maybe we should be organizing Fast cups for the teams who couldn't make it to later phases. There's plenty of room for doing things outside the usual. For me, double elimination doesn't make sense as well, it really makes playoffs too long (draft formula). On regards to the bo3 idea I think most of teams would be able to play a 2nd match right after their first. Judging the schedules, the majority of teams that schedule for later times are always the upper teams, not the mid/open level teams. It's not my call anyways but I'd do a bo3 with two matches played in the same day and a 3rd match, if necessary, being played during the week (we don't have any other tournament and most of the nerds show up to scrim during the week) for quarters, semis and finals. FUCK double elimination. It takes so long. Everytime I've ever played a double elimination bracket, that shit drags on forever, to the point where people forget dod even exists. It prolongs the season so much that the teams that are out get bored and quit dod.

the ONLY plausible option at all involving double elimination is having a best of 3 final. having full double elimination playoffs, as jared and a few other people have stated already, would essentially take a typical season length and DOUBLE it. this whole idea should be squashed right now and focus should be turned on whether to have bo3 finals or not, and nothing more. though some of you may support this idea now, when it comes time to actually go through with this type of schedule I can assure you that most of you will change your stance. the initial playoff rounds should be played out as always and the finals either as a normal final or a best of 3 so that the winner doesn't get the title based on a flukey situation such as one team being better on that specific map or something. and it should be that you play the first 2 matches on that sunday night, no matter what, then if the 3rd map is necessary, it gets played the following sunday, thus extending the season by only 1 week rather than 3-9 weeks. just my 6 cents

please do not do double elimination. i'd rather have shorter seasons and more of them than drag the current seasons out 3-4 weeks longer. it's also a 6 or 8 team invite division. why play each other 3 times during the season and then have to do double elim in playoffs? it's overkill.

You have the two best teams in each division playing that is the difference. If anything it gives you the chance of NOT having an upset. Like corey said a fluke ninja cap, a teams bad map, or 3 garand wiffs on a guy at trip box on harrington. You have two other maps to prove yourself.
The season is already 16 weeks long I don't see the point of prolonging it having people sit out and watch 6 weeks of playoffs that they're not involved in. I like the idea of a Double Elimination, but I don't think it's plausible. From previous experience in DoDDrafts and what not, people have a hard time showing up to matches during weekdays, so I don't see how a Double Elimination would really work.

It works in the NFL because there are only so many games a football player can endure. If the Superbowl was best of 3, I probably wouldn't have seen my Giants win two superbowls in the last 6 years.Quikey wrote: This.

Takes too long to get to a championship that in reality nobody really cares about. I'd be fine to take the top two teams play the championship and start the next season. A lot of teams not playing leads to more people not playing and leaving the game.

I voted yes for double elim playoffs but now realizing the amount of time it would add to the season I don't think it's feasible.
Better solution: Bo3 or Bo5 finals, map pool, teams nominate/eliminate maps, repeat, five maps remain, play those maps, finals might be fucking interesting now.

It's still exactly the same as every other season. Two weeks preseason, eight regular, and random weeks off for holidays or sports or something else = 13 week season. That being said, I don't care if it's double elimination or not. I like them, apparently 95% of the people posting in this thread are losing their shit over the idea, so it's quite obvious what the solution will be.
