Tied for my favorite group/team movie with DoDealers, close second to those would be KBC3 and third would be You Got Served.

Didn't we all?
This statement isn't fair Josh. Everyone was trying this hard at the time. The avg skill in the community had grown emensly and teams weren't just good at aiming they were not good at team work and execution.

it really confuses me how some people don't understand the concept of a learning curve. as the game went on, the older players essentially were teaching all of these "shitties" how to play, and those "shitties" expanded on those older playstyles and techniques and turned into MUCH BETTER PLAYERS. same thing happened in cs, same thing happens in every 10 year old game. it's naive to say that the skill level is worse now and has just continued getting worse because certain players who were around at one point are no longer playing. if you watched some of the older school players like scotty harris when he came back and actually put time in and went to w2z lan, it was a TOTALLY different game and the players as far as aim, reaction time, inventiveness in game, etc, were all much better. in 2003, 2004, 2005, you could literally expect the same thing from every player on every route of every map and it was a simple matter of either just plain out peeking someone or out gaying them. now you have snipers running around flying noscoping people, bars bar sniping snipers across the map, rifles bunny hopping around while shooting with minimal garand recoil and crouch hop peeking over boxes to kill someone where 6 years ago it wouldve been "peek around the box and miss, peek and miss, oh! finally gotcha!" etc. the hilarious part of all this is that the select few individuals who played in the early years of the game and had a play style like this era's players or learned how to do simple things hardly anyone did like CONTROL GARAND RECOIL or control standing heavy recoil, they were all the players everyone said cheated for quite some time (ninjuh, toxinator, cableguy, nick patten all come to mind there. all of whom to this day can still pick up the game at any point and almost instantly compete with anyone)
moral of the story- the game evolved, people learned how to do things better, and previous lans and seasons in the last few years have shown that. yeah the old school players were unbelievable at the time, but only a select few were ahead of their time or were able to adjust to the evolution of the game itself. not to mention it's the most POINTLESS ARGUMENT IN THE WORLD TO SAY WHO WAS BETTER? DA G00D PLAY3RZ FROM 2003 OR DA G00D PLAY3RZ FROM 2010Z!? literally pointless.
okay i had sworn to never get into this argument on here but frankly it gets annoying seeing guys who were invite players, good players, and good dudes making claims that are basically pure ignorance lol there's a reason players like bryan, brad, riveroyster and jared are STILL good now; they adjusted right along with everyone else. for christ sake even habib evolved his gay ass play style when the time came. /endwalloftext
edit: i forgot to mention dan schey as the one exception to this whole thing. he has managed to play the same for years and be equally successful, which i believe is more or less because as a sniper you can get away with it and dan has always had superior aim, reaction time, and intelligence. okay now im done!

Oh chill out nerds, it was a joke. I posted when I was shit faced last night. But I dont see how you can say from 2005 to 2006 players all the sudden got better, and started being more strategic. Dod was at its best in 2004 to 2006, and thats the facts.
Btw I destroy 12 mans when Jared Mundy doesnt pick me to be on his team. Any other time im usually in the middle of the pack or match owning. As a player who has played in almost every version of dod there is, I have to admit the guys who play now are REALLY GOOD. I dunno im just getting older or fat, but its taken me some time to compete with you 12 man soldats. Btw, bar sniping, bunnyhop rifling and all the other stuff has been done for years. The games the same, and the people still play it exactly the same. If anything dod is more random and pub style play now more then ever. Im sure some of you can agree with me if youve ever 12 manned with a player like shreddies who doesnt try to win the match but trys to just get frag. Example, not capping flags and letting teams run by so u can load up on shot in the back frags. Yeh its fun to do in 12 mans I guess but in a match your just hurting your team. Probably why some players are so "god like" in 12 mans and so shitty in matches. You all know what im talking about. Gotta go party its memorial day weekend, hope everyone has a good weekend, and jaggon I hope your new feet came in that you were telling me about <3 u

I've had this convo with corey dozens of times can't believe he posted all that lol... The thing is dod is an extremely easy game to get good at. A guy like jules who has been around the community for like a year or so would def be just as good if it were 2004.. The more you play the better you get.. Unless you're using a trackball mouse..

Try hard, play hard, and you get better... Especially when you play against the best a lot. I did it and got Cal-banned because I didn't make "friends" at this game at the time. Never touched hacks in my life, didn't need to. I just played almost as much as Habib at the time. Now with a couple of kids, new job, and time away from DOD I'm shitty.
Either way, I did learn is this is a pretty tight-knit community and that people need to know you away from the game before you're worth a shit.

I'm usually a 3rd round pick or last 2. Where I get drafted usually indicates how well I'll do in the 12 man. It's true...

There's a simple counter-argument to this... and it's not LoL I don't even play and I'm still better than everyone because I suck now.
Strategic progression definitely occurs in any game, but it generally follows a pattern. Someone figures out a strategy or tactic that no one can counter, and they (and everyone else) abuse that strategy until through invention, practice, or some combination of the two, it is countered. Now the players that countered the prevailing strategy are the best players and everyone else must figure out how to counter that strategy.
The problem with saying players learned from the best and kept getting better is that there was an extreme regression in skill post-CPL2005. Anyone that denies this wasn't there. Check-six literally showed up for matches with a random set of 6 players each week and made it to the CAL-i finals. Was this because we had been practicing and were at the top of our game? No. Basically every competitive team fell off the face of the earth at that point. I think the u5 team reformed as rsports with a new lineup, and complexity replaced a third of their lineup and was the best team by default. Highball was gone, pandemic and ukz... not sure what happened to their lineups.
I'm sure there are some people with very good aim and tactics now. The problem is that there is a higher level of game play. At that last socal LAN, our team was basically a group of bad players using pretty good strategy and we beat a bunch of teams with players running around standing BARing us from across the map. When you outskill players that badly, you should never lose to them.
I'm not saying the good players now couldn't have been good then. I'm just saying that they've never had the chance or competition to really learn about the game, so we'll never know. I'm also saying they're not as good as we were because there are 2 parts to any multiplayer game: strategy and execution. Since I stopped playing I haven't seen much new on the strategy front when I've come back to play one-off LANs. If anyone can explain to me why x6 of 2005 couldn't beat their modern dod team, I'm all ears!

Such a pathetic argument. It had nothing to do with who you were. It had to do with you cheating and getting caught. I can think of 2 people who have openly admitted to cheating in or around the time they've been caught. Fluxxx and Jaggon. Everyone else who has been banned pulls this same line.
You got banned because you cheated. The demos were watched, reviewed, and people said you cheated. Get it? That's the process. If I go to a prison and ask how many people in there are innocent, then I'm sure 99% of them will tell me they're innocent and have been framed. CAL bans were no different. You were banned. You cheated. Simple fact.
It's LOL worthy people can't be honest with themselves and in turn the people they play the game with.
The regression of 12 mans created antipathy. Too much cheating, no reason to play with the team you're on, and show-boating style. Instead of playing the game like it should be played people run around doing the 1 v 6. Outside of Thunder and TAP at the very end of CAL, I'm not sure any team in the highest division would have competed very well in CAL-IM. At the time, those style of teams were good, and that's fine when your peers are shitty too.
I simply disagree with you, Cory. I don't think your opinion is wrong, but I just don't buy it. Even within divisions like CAL-M at the height of CPL 2005, the top teams in M were significantly better than the rest of their competitors. A top CAL-M would have wrecked any team below it. Same goes for CAL-invite. CAL-IM is a bit of a different story because it was mostly a cheater haven, but that's besides the point. CAL-O, with reforms and sandbaggers still had significant tiers within it. You could have good honest open teams in CAL playoff semifinals.
Team play was different, people played "for reals", and it wasn't about going out and getting a bunch of demos for clips in movies. It was about getting wins, scrimming with your starting 6, scrimming only other teams - no pugs/bananapickers/cheaters, and the MOTW.
Some people now will likely make the transition, but even when I quit the style of game play had moved towards a more self-absorbed style aimed at maximizing movie clips and geared towards 12 mans rather than scrims. No scrims with your team means it is hard to build team work, hard to set strats, hard to depend on someone, etc. Not saying there aren't competitive teams, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find any team outside of THUNDER at the moment capable of playing in CAL-I, and that's likely just due to pure talent.

teams were much better back in the day, 10 times more fun though. Teamwork and strats added a different element to the game, now im pretty sure every team shows up and asks right before what route theyre going.

and in my opinion a lot of that is a lot of teams/players feel there's nothing to really play for. now i know old school players will use the argument about how there was never anything to play for before either you just played for the fun of it and I absolutely agree that you guys had bigger numbers while just playing for fun and all that. but basically the problem is now a days everyone is greedy after having events like WSVG and CPL, and leagues like CEVO. So with things like that gone, everyone basically feels theres no "point" to practicing and whatnot.
then my issue with how this community has been up until now, is that when we DO get opportunities to have events or leagues that will give people something to play for, 3/4 of the community has to jump on the "LolLollzl dOd iz so DeadDZ u nUrDz HahAHah" bandwagon. Why not just shut the fuck up and instead of wanting to feel cool over the internet because you're jumping along a bandwagon full of half the old school players who im sure you've watched many times in HLTV, stay positive and when something arises (like ESL) you take advantage of that and try to get together the best team you can and practice and shit. Because now with ESL there will be something worth playing for and now its just up to the community to either grow up and stop trying to be in the same category as all your old dod idols who will sit there and say how dead the game is and help it grow, or be little immature fucks like most usually are and end up screwing it up because half of us would rather try and call everyone nerds for "caring" about a game "too much" when in reality if ESL were up and running with a bunch of teams they'd probably be trying their ass off to win.

ESL means more prestige to Corey Marko's match clips compared to matches from a league like TPG.
