As fucked up as the Red Wedding is, I'm just glad we are getting closer to Joffrey's death. I hope that scene is a gruesome as possible.

I think this show is too great to read ahead and spoil stuff for myself. For those lucky enough to remain unspoiled for the Red wedding or even the plot of it, got to experience something amazing. Had I known any of that prior to watching, the shock and awe and chills and all the emotions I experienced wouldn't have existed or at least come close.
I'm very tempted to read ahead, I did it with lord of the rings, but those were different because they were one time movies. Finding out stuff as it happens, week to week on an ongoing show is just too good to spoil.

Part of the fun in knowing what already happens is watching people's reactions. After watching the very first 2-3 episodes, I immediately went out and bought and read the first 4 books and then book 5 when it came out. Last night, I was just as entertained in talking to people freaking the fuck out, as I was when I read the book.
That initial reaction sucks. It is like being sucker punched in the stomach. I had to re-read the pages 2-3 times to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, and then my book went flying across the room.

very cool episode, was a tad ruined by facebook comments, but its a given they kill off ppl u love. probably why hbo picked this series. im about to buy the whole series and read it, i hear theres a ton more cool stuff that has yet to happen... best part of this series so far from someone who has yet to read the books : its the end of the 3rd season and ITS NOT EVEN WINTER YET

The books are well worth the read. I read the first 4 over the course of two months some how, and this was on top of working 60-70 hour weeks during that period. Just could not put them down. There's a lot the show doesn't talk about, but there are things that are in the show that Martin has said should have happened in the books if he could go back and change things. Seriously, go get the books and be prepared to have your heart ripped out over and over again.

Stile, Robb's wife wasn't actually at the wedding in the books, doesn't even die. It's something GRR Martin said he should have done, tied up loose ends. There's some stuff from earlier seasons too that I can't remember off the top of my head. Honestly I think in the end the show will end up being Martin's true vision of the story, especially once the show catches up to the books.
