To anyone who's used the ManThePeriscope ftp

My host is a bit upset at the amount of data we've been using hosting DOD movies and such. They're going to remove all of the data from a few of the accounts on the 9th.

If you've ever had anything uploaded to http://public.mantheperiscope.com/, you should download it by then.

I'm going to make an effort to back everything up, but I'm not willing to make any promises.

I'm going to look into other webhosts, but who knows what will happen.

Could probably move you over to the 1911 server if you want. No bandwidth restrictions.

Word, that'd be really awesome.

Corey, Chris, and Pat are also affected by this as all three of their accounts are being deleted.

Sure thing, if anyone wants a x.nineteeneleven.org subdomain to host their stuff just send me a message and we'll set you up.

However, as I've been working on getting the new site set-up, I've run into a lot of load-time issues with our current host. That's one of the reasons I haven't turned the frontpage back on, as under even a low user load it can really crawl to a stop.

We've upgraded things gradually since 1911 relaunched back in Feb 2011, and our hosting already costs us 10x what it did then. But, the only upgrades from this point forward hosting wise mean another big step-up as far as monthly costs, and we just don't have the funds at the moment to really make that big of a move, and I don't like hounding you guys for donations 24/7.

My point in all of this being that our hosting situation is currently in flux, as we're moving to a different server from within our current host in hopes that we will see some better performance, but if not, I'll likely start shopping around for a viable dedicated server option, that may or may not allow us the unlimited bandwidth/storage capacity that we have at our current host.

At any rate, we'll figure it out, it's just going to take a few weeks, and in the end it might be that we need to throw a couple ads on the site to compensate for the much higher costs.

So I'll keep you posted on all that, fa sho.
