What happened to all the predictions topics? I know it is kind of a dead game, but sometimes preds topics are funny and worth reading...

Lost interest in the game I guess. It seems like there are only like 2 posts a day on this forum now.

Forums got overhauled and then became pretty quiet, not sure if the two are correlated.

broken english playoffs preds otw!!
on a side note, i didnt quite liked the new layout. it seems too IGNish while we all know we are here for the sake of nostalgia. but I guess we also have to thank the nerds who DDOS'd 1911 some time ago, forcing Eric to take security measures that are only found in these ugly high end templates.

Site redesign is just supposed to be a homage to gotfrag for nostalgia's sake, it wasn't necessarily meant to be a huge improvement from a functionality stand point or to make anything more secure (although people hacking the site is very annoying).
That being said, by all means make whatever preds threads you want, I just haven't been following things enough to make any myself.

I hate to say it, but the rep has something to do with it. Negging/updown voting is pretty interactive.
I get bored if I cant judge anyone.

Getting the rep system to function takes a great deal of time. I had started re-designing the system for the new site but haven't finished it cause I didn't feel like there was enough interest, especially with what a total arbitrary mess that the rep system became. But, if it's something that people really want I'll throw a little time at it and see if I can get it working without breaking anything.

It became a mess because you had superusers that could rep themselves and delete +reps to other peoples posts. No bueno.

There was no way to stop people from becoming super users on the old system, short of me manually deleting their rep one by one. But that's just not true, no one could rep their own posts or give themselves rep, and only a handful of people ever had the ability to delete +/- rep, sorry if they abused it and upset you. It was really ghetto, but that wasn't supposed to matter because it wasn't intended to be taken seriously. It would be much the same if I could get it working again.

Haha of course, priorities. That's still happening btw, just not announcing details till all the ducks are in a row. Prudence.

The forum is lacking Alex Kirk, which translates to every thread lacking a discussion on nutrition and proper form.

The forum lacks the trolling. Can't even make a thread to rile someone up without it getting deleted within 5 minutes.

There is no incentive for me to post if people aren't going to give me +rep. I live for +rep.

Upset me? You are always so condescending for no reason. The real question is: why were there people who had that capability to begin with?

I never deleted people's rep and I got blamed ;(
I didn't care to delete rep's I just liked the ability to see someone's rep history, to see who was dumping on someone's rep haha.

I'm sorry man I was genuinely apologizing. I remember you complained to me about rep problems from time to time so I figured you were actually bothered by it. I sometimes have a hard time figuring out when people are actually upset and when dey just trollin. Once again, I'm really sorry, for reals.
The old rep system was an
old script I found and hacked together to make work for us the best I could. It did have a settings page that you could tweak how rep worked, and you could edit that calculation manually in the code, but some features were unchangeable, like all moderators having the ability to see and delete +/- rep and ignore the time requirement in between reps.
A lot of our moderators became moderators just by volunteering to do stuff and then doing it. Some people were upset that Swiss and k4b00m had moderator, but I gave it to them and many others early on for helping out. That being said, when rep was implemented (and mods became unchangeable super users), we didn't really have that many major problems because it was so obvious when someone had abused the system and I could just undo it manually. When it got to the point where people had hundreds of thousands of rep points, it was really hard to tell. That being said, I don't recall Swiss or k4b00m ever going crazy with their rep powers like others did.
But in the end, we knew it was a ghetto system and it was just supposed to be a for fun thing anyway, not to be taken seriously. It became not fun (for me at least) when it became a daily thing to have like 30 emails/pms/steam messages complaining about rep, every day. I never anticipated you guys caring about it that much and that it would make you guys so upset so I eventually just stopped intervening and let it be chaotic altogether, which was also pretty fun.
Once again, I'm really sorry if that really bothered anyone (for serious). If I end up putting a rep system back in I imagine it would turn out the same way, unless I could find a much more robust system to start with.

I can only imagine who would care so much about their rep on 1911

I actually DID do a crazy preds for last week, I got baked and used a spreadsheet, I added to each team their projected starters, I used several colors and fonts to make it look really bad ass and posted it.
I took it down though, after I posted it and looked at it i realized there would probably be more butthurt fossils out there that would rather just whine and complain that I was the one who posted it, than actually make a prediction.
it's not a dead game, it's a dead soul inside most of the people IN the game.
