Anxiety Awareness!

This is a post in reference to people with anxiety, and also in regards to a previous topic "Rambizzles Moms gets a DUI". I feel its important enough to provide its own thread for people to discuss and understand its effects on the human mind.

Be aware, not all cases of anxiety are the same. Although in one shape or another result in the human to lose stability in thought in the moment. ( I call this being cloud-minded )

High Anxiety can cause a person to act and preform this way. Anxiety is actually a form of awareness that increases your senses by a significant amount causing you to over-think the obvious and jump ahead of the topic you are discussing. I know this because I have it. A lot of times you can use this to your benefit if you know how to control it. Anxiety does cause mild or in some cases a larger form of paranoia, and elevates the heart rate. There's no physical proof of a heart attack from anxiety, however in this case theirs no physical proof in this case either that this woman had anxiety as well.

In my case I profile people, I watch for signals that cause them to act this way. This allows me to learn more about myself and others, remember its not your hand moving your mouse its your brain. The brain causes some funky shit to happen when you lose focus on the task at hand. Next time you're itchy and you get that hint ( "now might now be the time to remove my hand..etc ") you lost your focus, primarily in a gamers case the focus is communication(sound); visual(sight) and instincts ( action of impulse )..

If anyone knows a navy seal IRL, pay attention to their actions. Attempt to tap them on the opposite shoulder without them knowing, attempt to think what they are pondering. Its primarily training your brain in tune to the task at hand, but maintaining that focus is the hard part.

This applies to any athlete, seal, gamer, driver .. human
As simple as this ladies accident seems like a joke its a simple reminder of the potential risks that come with loss of composure. Anything can happen in a instant.

(BTW I KNOW ITS JOKES, BUT MY POST IS SERIOUS )

Glad you got rid of it, Some people are unfortunate to have it for life. The increased pressure from exams and such caused it im guessing?

Im not sure if you understand my post. The mind only believes what it sees, yes thats a fact no science is needed for this topic. However there are no explanations for anxiety itself. I can see this topic already heading in the incorrect direction. We could debate this with facts from all over the internet. The true facts that does stand is we don't completely understand the human brain, nor can it be explained how it works. Every mind is unique in their own way, however only what your eyes see you believe.

On topic of Anxiety only people who have had anxiety can explain it. Doctors are still unsure what to cure anxiety with except tests with different forms of drugs to counter-balance the chemicals in the brain. All in all yes, it could be a form of chemical imbalance however being human doctors think that drugs are the cure for everything "Keep taking these, and these and you'll be fine!". Where do we draw the line?

The truth to the matter is unless you have had anxiety you wouldn't understand.

Yep, I work at a state hospital with the California Dept of Mental Health. Lol don't feel terrible for us though, we love what we do. Anxiety is only the tip of the iceberg too. I'm frequently around people who have paranoid schizophrenia, bipolar disease, major depression, panic anxiety, suicidal risks, you name it.

If it's a mild anxiety we're talking about.. then just do some deep, slow breathing exercises and you might feel better. Close your eyes and focus on the breaths you take. It'll lower your heart rate and take your mind off what's stressing you for a few minutes. Works for me most of the time, depending on the stressor. I've seen research say that deep breathing exercises can have a similar effect to that of a dose of valium or other anxiolytics.

*edit* Although if I can try to understand what the OP is trying to say, I think he's referring to a more generalized anxiety. In that case, cognitive behavioral therapy and medication, medication, medication!

That's simply not true. I don't know much about medicine or psychotherapy but I know therapists don't operate this way. They prescribe medicine as an immediate fix, therapy to find root causes and alleviate them, then behavioral therapy to eliminate harmful actions and promote beneficial ones to recondition a patient (such as rwc's recommendation that people breathe slowly).

That's my understanding, at least. Someone else here can probably explain it better and/or correct me.

Grow up. Someone with generalized anxiety disorder can't just "man up."

Correct. When drugs are prescribed immediately it is usually coupled with therapy. If someone is extremely depressed, therapy alone usually isn't recommended as someone with that condition is in no state to even be capable of absorbing the psychotherapy.

Enough medication to 'stabilize,' so to speak, so the patient is capable of being reached via psychotherapy.

You could have just said "Rob is right." That is an acceptable and preferred answer.

But then I would have just been cherry-picking your response. I have to make it clear I have an inkling of knowledge.

Alex, calm down bud, it's all in fun.

Anxiety is something effecting the brain which you can train yourself to deal with, which is why I said to man up and deal with it.

My sister had a diagnosis for anxiety for years. She tried medications and other therapies. But when she finally got fed up with it all and trained her brain to try to ignore those feelings, she hasn't had them. The human body and human brain are amazing things. If we could learn to control it more there's no telling what we would be capable of.

Not everyone can.

That's great that it worked for your sister, but that's anecdotal evidence which is not applicable to the general population of people with generalized anxiety disorder. It could very well imply that your sister's case was not as severe just as easily as it could imply that your sister is very strong-willed. It's kind of difficult to draw comparisons.

A large portion of those with some sort of GAD, not sure if it's a majority or not, will eventually graduate to more complex disorders like major depressive disorder. For those people, it's typically not as easy as simply ignoring those feelings.

My father was a seal. Attempting to sneak up on him would be a stupid fucking idea. I've tried it once. The outcome wasn't good.

Are you kidding me I've been a seal for like, 4 years now. My entire dod career has been in my spare time, when i'm not snapping peoples necks and all that.

GIVE ME A HOOHA. SEALS NIGGA.

No, but interesting thread, to say the least. Anxiety comes with stressful situations and fear of the unknown, and antidepressants & all that just add to the anxiety imo, but what do i know, I'M JUST A NAVY SEAL OVER HERE.

it's hard to train your brain when there are random triggers. It's true the brain is not that well understood so when prescribing drugs they couple it with therapy to monitor how you are doing..basically an under the radar suicide watch.
