Hello,

I need some help in choosing a computer that would be solely used for work. Specifically, it will act as the cash register for a store. We have one right now, but it's 5 years old and it came with XP. I followed the directions and installed Windows 7 instead when XP expired, and the computer was running fine, but now it's getting to a point where it freezes and loads very slow.

The only major software that would be run on it is Quickbooks Point of Sale 2013 (http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/su ... s/INF12500).

I'm not looking to break the bank, maybe spend up to $500, less if possible.

Looking for some advice on what I should look for or what to go with since I am not very computer savvy at all. I figured I'll come on here and ask before heading to Microcenter. That way I'm a little more prepared.

I wasn't sure if I should just go with an already built computer, or buy the parts since I was told it comes out less expensive that way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what others think, but I personally have bought laptops and pcs from woot.com that are factory reconditioned and have had no problems. Woot has some good ones for sale right now if you want to check it out.

honestly i would go with dell, lenovo or hp including 3 or 5 year next business day - on site support, no hastle with replacing stuff if something breakes, also you can always call them with the slights thought of hardware failure, also they mostly put on some real easy to handle hardware tests.


If your pos data is very important to your buisness with no data loss allowed, i would maybe look into getting a pc with 2 hard drives configured in raid 1.

other then that the application itselfs seems to be very light on resources so you can go with the lowest configuration they offer, something like a pentium or core I3 (i would avoid amd though), anything else should fit anyways, there shouldnt be a need for a graphic card so most likely a core i3 is the best choice.

If you open a account with any of the 3 above mentioned companys you probably get some discount in the range of 5% to 10% on your orders most likely maybe even some new customer special discount, if you call they configure it to your liking either way and any parts or software can be removed.
