Must be a couple people in here who watch Strikeforce/DREAM/UFC/Bellator so I'll make an official un-official MMA discussion thread. Helps me to avoid the trolls on sherdog.

Anyone here watch UFC 135: Rampage Jones?
Terrible night for me..

Yeah i watched it but wasn't looking forward to the fight. Light heavyweight is stacked right now and I would have prefered seeing Jones vs Machida or Evans instead. What Dana White really needs to do is have Silva fight at a catch weight against GSP or Jones if he can win a few more title fights first.

I have missed 1 UFC/strikeforce in like 2 years, i am super nerdy about it. Don't get mtv2 so i can't watch bellator :( but hopefully that shit ends up on Spike in a year or two.

As far as UFC 135 goes:

Rampage vs. Jones
I was definitely disappointed in Rampage. (yes, i was rooting for him too, as i can't stand Jones) He was in great shape, but mentally he was not prepared. He was not letting the hands fly. He wasn't taking chances and tried to play it too safe. He was losing every round until Jones finally ended it. Rampage is entirely too one dimensional and that fixed exposed it(again.) You can't win with just boxing. Period. MMA stands for mixed martial arts, Rampage needs to go back and learn some kicks.

Kos vs Hughes: A little different than i expected as Hughes seemed to have Kos a little shook up at first. I was expecting complete domination by Kos, but he pulled through after shaking of the cage rust/getting hit in the same orbital bone fear.

Rothwell vs Hunt: Gotta give Hunt credit. Both guys were dead tired, he kept going. Hell, he even tried an arm bar which would have been hilarious if he got it.

Diaz vs. Gomi: HOLY SHIT. Now, my stance on Gomi is that he is an artificially inflated fighter from PRIDE like most of the fighters. PRIDE was not as good as people like to remember it. That being said, Diaz looked fucking amazing. So glad he is back down at 155, he really didn't need to be at 170 and it definitely slowed his progress towards to the top of 155 division. If nate comes to fight like that every time, the entire 155 division better be on notice.

not even going to mention the browne fight as he was atrocious. not much to say on the undercard either.

I'm also begging everyone to please watch UFC Live 6 Saturday night FREE on versus. The bantamweight title is on the line and these lighter weight classes do not get the recognition or credit that they deserve. 145 and 135's put on some of the most exciting fights you will ever see, and this is the first time a title fight has been on free TV in a long time and the last time wasnt even live it was tape delayed.

Johnson vs. Cruz bantamweight title
I fully expect Cruz to continue "cruising" through the 135 division. He is bigger than most of the guys there, and usually faster. However, in this case Mighty Mouse Johnson can match his speed and he will need to couple that with his wrestling ability to score some take downs and hold him down to wear out Cruz. Cruz's cardio is unbelievable and is one of the main reasons he has gotten this far. Cruz is about to constantly move and he goes in and out with a punch and it definitely frustrates his opponents. Mighty Mouse is a small 135er and I fully expect him to be in contention for the 125 flyweight title when the UFC brings in that division later this year, but I just don't think he will be able to take Cruz down.

Barry vs Struve
This is the closest thing the UFC is going to get to one of those PRIDE freakshow fights. Barry is the shortest heavyweight and Struve is the tallest, with a 1 foot difference in height between the two. It will definitely be interesting to see, because Barry as absolute KO power AND throws vicious kicks, but if a kick gets caught, he will go down, and Struve will most likely control him there. I see just that happening.

Anthony Johnson vs.Charlie Brenneman
I am only interested in this fight because Brenneman is from PA and is a great underdog story. I attended UFC Live 4 in Pittsburgh, which had a bunch of fight changes and some how Brenneman went from fighting on the undercard to fighting Rick Story on the main card. Before the fight, Story looked like he was on the rise in the WW division and was getting close to a title shot. Then Charlie Brenneman showed up, and took him down all 3 rounds and put on a wrestling clinic Anthony Johnson on the other hand, is a HUGE WW. Seriously, i can't believe this guy makes weight and it gives him such an advantage. He has great power, and Charlie needs to take him down at all costs. Sadly, i think this might be a KO.

And don't get me started on the UFC 136 fight card. CARD.OF.THE.YEAR.

My friend is a mod on that forum, but it has a smaller user base right?

Jones v. Machida/Evans would have been a better fight. I think both of those guys have the best chance of beating Jones right now. I'm only counting Shogun out because he hasn't looked very good since his return from surgery. How he shows up against Hendo will make a big difference in whether or not he is ready to contend for the belt again.

The Diaz v. Gomi fight totally ruined my night. I like both guys but was definitely pulling for Gomi. Nate just tore him apart on the feet and then Gomi went for that takedown. Gomi just hasn't evolved with the sport. Some head movement would be nice. But he is still an entertaining fighter. The UFC should just give him someone who will stand and brawl with him.

I'm the same with you about the Kos fight. I didn't expect Matt to do so well in the beginning, but Kos definitely found his groove later in the round. Might be time for Hughes to retire.

I'll be honest, I don't follow fighters that closely and I have horrible memory when it comes to remembering their past fights. The fight I'm excited to see is Struve v. Barry just because I know both those guys are willing to throwdown. Especially Struve.

I hate watching Cruz fight. His style just irks the hell out of me. He is good, but the way he moves just makes me want to shoot myself in the face.

Also, I have secured tickets for UFC 139. "JUST BLEED"

Last nights fights weren't that bad. Thoroughly enjoyed the Danzig fight. Barry v. Struve didn't really live up to what I expected, but the slam and finish were badass. As far as the Cruz fight, I thought MM had Cruz out of his element in the first round using his speed and pressuring him. It was a shame that he couldn't capitalize on it though and just ended up getting clinched up. I was going wild when MM escaped those rear naked chokes.
