i would want the full size XD shooting .40 out of a 3inch barrel too :p

five sevens are awesome pistols, but the ammo is expensive and the gun itself is expensive as shit. to go to the store, buy the gun, and the 200+ rounds needed to break the pistol in your looking at like 1100 dollars.

personally i would probably get a cz85 combat, 2 extra mags, 200 rounds of speer gold dot, and 500 rounds of FMJ if i had the money for a five seven.

why the fuck would you sell your pistols to get a glock? the sig is as good if not a better pistol than the glock. next to that, you already have the perfect carry gun with either the 226 or the XD.

i disagree about .40 being the way to go. in our area(the desert of arizona) 9mm is more than enough for penetration and stopping power. we dont have to worry about thick winter coats, or layers of clothes fouling up our bullets. why not take advantage of that with the ability to carry more rounds in a smaller gun with manageable recoil? if i lived further north i would probably want to carry a .45. with decent ammo, the 9mm is every bit as good as a .45 on human targets.

I have a springfield XD subcompact .40, a mosberg 500a, a sig sauer p226 tacops .40, a marlin .22 not sure what model, and looking into getting a fn fiverseven. ill prolly end up selling most of my pistols and just getting a glock. the price of fiveseven ammo makes me not want to buy it. plus it is pretty hard for me to buy any pistol thats not .40

i wish i would have got the xd full size- though the subcompact is nice with the extended mag, the mosberg 500 is awesome with the pistol grip stock, i love my p226, and the marlin is great for shooting varmits.

God, anyone remember that guy back in the day that LOVED firearms? Like gun talk 24/7 on http://www.gotfrag.com, and anything bad about guns he would rant and rant for hours.

That guy was absolutely nuts. It bothers me I can't remember his name because I'm sort of a dod historian, but still I gave a full 30 seconds of thought into it, but his love of firearms is all I remember about him.

im not recommending full auto for 300 yards, im just saying its a hell of a lot more controllable with the smaller assault rifle calibers than the old full size rifle calibers.

James, the Germans have been making some of the finest weapons in the world for a very long time. I know they dont fuck up when they manufacture things. why do you think we get the barrels for the abrams tank from germany?

Full auto with any personal weapon is a waste of ammunition and horribly inaccurate outside of close range. Doesn't matter what caliber you're using. Best reserved for machineguns with bipods and high capacity belts that are designed for suppressive fire.

yea, i wouldnt use my nagant for hunting. its horribly inaccurate past 100 yards or so. probably the barrel. i havent really used it with quality new ammo though, just the surplus shit you can buy 1000 for 100.

That's why you see H&K's so popular in the elite units for close quarters combat. They don't fail under super stress situations. While every man made thing is prone to some type of failure, Germans always seemed to go the extra mile for reliability.

I have some 1950s manufactured 8mm for my K98s(I only shoot the one I paid $85 for). It came in 70 round bandoliers with 10 rounds per pouch with 5 round stripper clips. I can't make it through half a bandolier without having to give my shoulder a break. Bad thing is that the ammo is corrosive, so the rifle needs to be cleaned immediately afterwards.

All of those old WW2 battle rifles are just beast. Compared to the BB guns we use now, the calibers used in those (like the .30-06) are just monstrous. These are the kind of guns that straight knocked you on your ass for good if you were shot with them.

The stocks seem to differ the most. Then obviously the stamping. The collector one my dad bought for me went for over $400 about 5 years ago (I think, I'll have to check the tag on it). To me, having an authentic german K98 is just different than any other K98. The history behind it is what captures most people.

Edit: Don't have the tag any longer, but it is cool to look at the stamping on the receiver and see that Nazi eagle a couple times.

I've seen K98s for cheaper. As for Garands, they are going to run you a bit. The Civilian Marksmanship Program has some good ones available, but you have to be part of an organization that is affiliated with them in order to obtain one. I wouldn't buy one from a gun show, though. They will rip you off and give you a gun with a shitty barrel for sure.

Mosin nagants were so massively produced that all of them (minus mint condition collector's pieces) will be low in price. Hell, pretty much any non-US WW2 rifle is cheap as hell.

i might have to sell my pistol though, work is shitty and i need to pay some bills D:

I've got a Marlin .22 semiauto, a Ruger Mini14 (.223), a Para 1911 .45, and a Sig P226 .40. The store here on Camp Lejeune has a nice selection of pistols and also has some decent sales once in awhile. I picked up that Sig brand new for 30% off (came to like 600ish i think). I don't have any problems with my Para. They sell M9s at that base store too, but I shoot it pretty often for work and I'm not a fan of it or 9mm in general.

how do you like the kimber? ive never really heard good things about .45 in a compact form. mainly reliability and issues with finding ammo that feeds well.

I sold my ParaOrdinance LDA in .45 to buy my Kimber. Paras became crap over the last 5 years or so. The slide rocks back and forth and I had to send mine back to get the trigger mechanism repaired. They sent a note back saying I wasn't gripping it tight enough and not fully depressing the dovetail part of the safety mechanism(I called bullshit on that one). The dealer I bought my Kimber from didn't even want it on trade, so I sold it myself. My Kimber has been flawless and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's the mid sized though; the compact is the Ultra Carry, where I have the Pro Carry II because my hands were too big for the Ultra.

I also have a Mossberg 835, 2 K98's (one with a straight bolt, other more collectible with the curved bolt), Nagant 91/30, S&W .44 Mag 5" barrel, Norinco AK-47 with chrome lined barrel, and some weird Euro pistol my dad bought me. Then of course a Ruger 10/22 for cheap and fun plinking.

ive got a springfield XD subcompact in 9mm for carry, 12guage mossberg pump with a knoxx compstock on it, a mosin nagant(eh, 80 dollars and still fun), and a single shot winchester 12gauge from what i can only guess is the 50s or 60s. it doesnt have a serial number for me to trace.

ive got a glock and a few shotguns (12 gauge remington, 20 gauge browning). really wish i could have a beretta or benelli, maybe in a couple years. my brother has another two shotguns and a revolver (forget the make). hes also got a swiss sniper rifle, which as you can see by my name, i am super jealous of.

we go out shooting alot, usually 5-stand or sporting clays. theres this really nice range about 20 minutes from me just outside of downtown dallas that we go to. theres some pretty loaded guys who go there, with their thousand dollar guns all tricked out. one of the guys is a competitive trick shooter for beretta. actually, the CEO of boeing also goes there all the time and he has this tricked out atv to drive from station to station (no joke). my older brother and i go to the pistol range when we can too, but not too often

I myself have a few and enjoy target shooting from time to time. My family owns a 140 acre farm that I use to shoot at. Problem is the rising price of ammunition. I'd really like a bolt action rifle that uses the "newer" Lapua rounds. The shows I've watched on TV talk it up pretty well; so I'd like to try that out myself.

My most recent purchase was a Kimber Pro Carry II for conceal carry. Although I do need to get it renewed.

question that will be ignored:

why do you need a gun?

pretty much that line of thinking in its entirety. i dont want a debate on the subject. i want an interesting and informative thread for those of us who have firearms or enjoy shooting, and those that are curious as to perhaps buying there first gun.

i know im not the only one who likes to shoot here.
