Don't get me wrong, he is a great coach. But he would not fit at Bama or LSU, even with their academic standards compared to other top ten BCS schools.
His non-cons often had some pretty big cupcakes, but when he was in the Big 8 and Big 12 he was routinely beating schools like Texas, A&M, Nebraska, and Mizzou.
He was taking cast-offs and scrubs and making them top 5 football teams. He took the worst D1 football program and made it into a contender. Like, KU is historically a .500 team. K-State ranks at #9 in lowest winning percentages of all-time, and that has been significantly made better by Bill Snyder. Like pre-Snyder it was #1 or #2 and at like 37%.
Aask USC if it wants to come out and play Bill Snyder again. BYU, Tennessee, etc. He has some bowl wins that are fantastic. The only real shame was the year they got screwed over for a BCS game with the A&M Big 12 championship loss.
K-State's non-conference is about as compelling as what half the teams in the SEC do, but they get a pass. He was coaching in the Big 12 when Mizzou, Colorado, Nebraska, A&M, OU, OSU, Texas, and Mizzou could go out and smack you in the mouth.
