The odds of me winning a 100k gty at the Borgata are much worse than 150:1. GL at the lottery though.Polak wrote:you wouldn't try to win atleast 60 grand with 400 bucks? o.O

mg,
What i have mentioned thus far;
Im going to a 100K guaranteed poker tourny. the entry fee is 400 bucks. its this upcoming saturday.
The other day I was playing roulette, I put 100 dollars on a number, which pays 35 to 1. I got 3500, i then proceeded to drop a little over a grand on craps afterwords
murmur is the club in brogata, ive been there a few times, but i prefer the pool at harrahs
one of the people im going down to ac with, takes a limo down everytime, the limo is provided by brogata. hes got like his own personal card and hes a highroller. he got a suite for the four of us, yay. you gotta love asians!
tox ive seen some of your facebook pictures and you hang out with some "non-whores" alright

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
$400 for a $100k gty? I really wish I lived back up north sometimes. Good luck dude. I would be all over that shit. What's the structure like for that tourney? I am so jealous...
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
yeah man, the structure is like this:
* Players will start with 15,000 in tournament chips.
* On-Site Registration for this event will be held in the Poker Room:
o Friday, August 5 from 6P until Midnight
o Saturday, August 6 from 8AM until the end of Level 6 of this event
* Players that are eliminated (bust) within the first six (6) Levels may Re-Enter (unlimited Re-Entries)
* Alternates and late sign-ups may be allowed to enter during the first six (6) Levels. Late sign-ups that require a new stack of chips to be placed on a table will have the equivalent of the small blind extracted from the stack every twenty (20) minutes the tournament has elapsed.
* Each Level will last thirty (30) minutes.
* Ten (10) minute break after every three (3) Levels.
* This is a one (1) day tournament.
* Redraw for seats and tables at 18 and 10 players or at discretion of Tournament Director.
* Tournament Director decisions are final and without recourse.
* Borgata reserves the right to alter, change, or cancel tournament. Borgata will not be held responsible in the event of typographical errors or misinformation on the website or printed material pertaining to this event, and players will not have claim in these matters.
* Seating may be limited.
* Residents of foreign countries without a U.S. tax treaty will be subject to withholdings.
um first level is 25/50 so you start of with 300 big blinds which is pretty decent for a 1 day tourney. i never go in until the 3rd or 4th level though

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
30 minute levels at a live event is the equivalent of an online super-turbo, isn't it? If you make one round in 20 minutes (suggested by the late buy-in rule) that's even faster than a turbo structure online. I guess that's good. Less chance to get raked over by pros.
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
dan its a one day event and no it is not the equivalent of a super turbo.
the wsop of poker main event has blind move up every 2 hours, and its very very deep stack. and then there are tournaments that are 1500 dollar buy in with 60 minute levels. which is also consider a deep game. 30 is average. turbo would be anything below and super turbo would still be 10 mins to 15

and its a rebuy tourny, you can reload as many times as you want up to the 6th level. so there isnt much value for me to play much until that moment. im not going in with multiple buy ins. if you break through the bubble you still wouldn't get your money back

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
There's actually way more value in playing aggressively in the early levels if you're good. People play like you describe and give up anything but premium hands. 3betting light versus weak players is so $$$ at those levels because there's very few that will come over the top with a light 4bet that puts 1/5-1/6 of their stack in the pot. It's such a bad spot to have to decide to call off 4/5 of your stack with anything but kings or aces in the first few levels that people will just fold instead of 4betting to 1500-2k. If they do come over the top, you know you're beaten and if they flat, they have to play their hand face up if you have position on them.Polak wrote:and its a rebuy tourny, you can reload as many times as you want up to the 6th level. so there isnt much value for me to play much until that moment. im not going in with multiple buy ins. if you break through the bubble you still wouldn't get your money back
15hands per level is pretty low, but whatever...
Have fun!
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
i got knocked out in the top 200, where there were over 950 players. first place was over 90k i believe. pretty sick for a one day event.
um scorch. i disagree with your argument, you will not get a lot of action at the start of the tournament except for idiots. there isn't a lot of value to play at the lower limits unless you have people calling you when you have the nuts. i wont even call a king high flush in the lower limits because i dont want to be knocked out.
you have to start stealing a lot of the blinds when they get past the 5 to 1 ratio. or is it 4 to 1. i dont remember

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
You can disagree all you like. I presented information, you can choose to accept it or not. The higher your Stack:BB, the more value there is in being better than your opponent. That's one of the reasons why playing a deep-stack tournament is preferable for the better player. I can tell now that you're not an experienced tournament player, so I wouldn't tell you to play aggressively in the earlier rounds. You'd be better off playing a Kill Phil type strategy than playing aggressively in the early levels. I obviously didn't realize that when I posted before.Polak wrote:i got knocked out in the top 200, where there were over 950 players. first place was over 90k i believe. pretty sick for a one day event.

I'm not going to get into a poker dick waving contest but sitting out in the early levels of a $400 tournament with a field flooded by bad players is just burning money.

You have to be careful. Every hand could be your last. The most important part of tournament poker is staying alive. variance. small ball your way to a stack early on.
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
scorch the tournament is an unlimited rebuy event up to level 6. please take that into consideration, the early levels are pointless when you have rich idiots just play any hand. the point of a tournament is not to survive, its to win. unexperienced players try as hard as they can to break the bubble, while the good ones want to win the whole thing.
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
and everyone has a different strategy to playing a tournament. im not saying your wrong scorch, all i said is that i disagree with you. stating that i am not an experienced player now isn't a fair statement either. you can argue my opinion but do not belittle me. i never did that to you.

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
I'm not trying to belittle you, it's just that you're wrong. There are optimal strategies in poker... they change based on table dynamics, but there are still optimal strategies. There's not really an argument among good players about whether you should play hands in the early levels with rich idiots who will play anything.Polak wrote:and everyone has a different strategy to playing a tournament. im not saying your wrong scorch, all i said is that i disagree with you. stating that i am not an experienced player now isn't a fair statement either. you can argue my opinion but do not belittle me. i never did that to you.

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
yeah, the main difference is that live tournaments are filled with a lot more fish and a ton more profitable.
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
no, you see atleast 3 times as many hands online than you do live, and your stack online, even in deep stack online are a lot smaller than those during live, so i can see why you dont want to miss any levels online. you can be in your underwear online, you dont have to maintain a table image online, just dont fall into a pattern (table image and how someone plays are two different things), and any decent player plays atleast 4 tournaments at once and you never pay attention to anyone at the start of a tourney. any decent player actually doesn't show up at the start of the tourney because there is no value to play a hand unless they are kings or aces. if you get a huge stack of chips with blinds being 1/2 that wont effect you for over 500 hours if they blinds never changed. there is no point to wait until you get kings or aces. its like playing no blinds at all at when blinds are taken away from poker there is no point of playing a hand unless you have aces. its a simple logic.
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
But at live events you can get drunk at the table and sometimes you can steal chips when your neighbor isn't looking and no one will notice. You should definitely show up on time because it's easier to get away with that when the blinds are lower and no one's counting their chips. Plus drinking early and often makes everyone not mind so much when they lose their chips to you because you're the friendly drunk. You should definitely drink and play poker in the early levels of a tournament. You'll make rich friends who have hot, surgically enhanced daughters.Polak wrote:no, you see atleast 3 times as many hands online than you do live, and your stack online, even in deep stack online are a lot smaller than those during live, so i can see why you dont want to miss any levels online. you can be in your underwear online, you dont have to maintain a table image online, just dont fall into a pattern (table image and how someone plays are two different things), and any decent player plays atleast 4 tournaments at once and you never pay attention to anyone at the start of a tourney. any decent player actually doesn't show up at the start of the tourney because there is no value to play a hand unless they are kings or aces. if you get a huge stack of chips with blinds being 1/2 that wont effect you for over 500 hours if they blinds never changed. there is no point to wait until you get kings or aces. its like playing no blinds at all at when blinds are taken away from poker there is no point of playing a hand unless you have aces. its a simple logic.

Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
there was a guy at the table who had about 150K in chips. He just doubled up through 3 out of 5 hands in a row, he always had an Ace, Ace 8, then AK, then AJ.
the guy was getting hit by the deck.
anyway he fires another raise to 11K while being UTG +2 or +1. im one position behind the button with about 45K, ive been waiting to make a move forever. the blinds are 1.5K/3K
I call with QJ of clubs and him and I are heads up. Flop is A,Q,10 rainbow, he checks i shoot out 20K and he guy snap calls me. turn is 4 of clubs he checks, i shove, he says he has to call and he has AJ.
river is a brick and i lost. i just couldn't put him on another ace and my patience was wearing thin. it sucks playing for 9 hours and nothing to show for it. this was also my second 100K+ tourney and i feel like there is still a lot to learn.

Sucks watching someone else pick up a bunch of hands while you're sitting with weaker. Definitely have done the same.Polak wrote:there was a guy at the table who had about 150K in chips. He just doubled up through 3 out of 5 hands in a row, he always had an Ace, Ace 8, then AK, then AJ.

If you want to learn I'll give my advice in that spot, you don't have to read it if you don't want to.
Flatting there is pretty bad. PFR hasn't really been out of line. Raising A8 late position with a small stack is normal. AK and AJ are standard raises in MP as well. With an EP raise, he knows he's not getting much credit because he's raised so much recently, so you expect a fairly strong hand out of him unless he's the type to think he can level the entire table. If you think he's that type and that he's weak in this spot, just come over the top and shove... but I don't think he's weak here too often. He'll have a really hard time calling with anything less than AQs/JJ+ in that spot as long as you don't have a crazy image, so you do have some FE from mid-pairs and ATs/AJ type hands.
My suggestion is to just fold. You have position on the guy, but QJ is a speculative hand that you can't call with if you get squeezed pre-. You're also not deep enough to make QJ a profitable flat versus an EP opening range. If you think he's opening wide, a shove might be profitable, but he has to fold a lot of his range for that to be the case. QJ is a weak hand heads-up in these situations. You need to be much deeper to be flatting here (or playing the hand at all to an EP raise).
Re: 350+50 borgata 100,000 garanteed AC
I totally understand what your saying and as soon as that hand was done that's all I was saying that to myself, I should of folded that was dumb, I got a little emotional etc etc.
What was going through my mind when I was at that spot to call, fold, or stack in was this. I can go all in and push the guy off the hand, but I have three guys still behind me who might have a monster and I'm pretty much done. The whole time I had the guy in my mind with a pocket pair, I was convinced he didn't get another A with a face card and he would prob call me with any pocket 8s or better if I shoved. Once I saw the flop with with A,Q,10 and the way he checked I thought I was good.
But I totally agree with you, that I should of folded and I shouldn't of been in that hand. I felt that I finally got a decent hand and it was time to make some kind of a move and I did and it wasn't the right time. I still had about 15 big blinds left in me, eh but there is always a next time.

i honestly hate rebuy tournys. it just gives the people who always try to shove opportunites to come back in after they miss the first time or then there after. i just played a small 130 tourny that had 120 people in made it down to last 2 tables and got drawn out on a straight to lose over half my stack and than just crumbled from there on out.
