RIP Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
I decided to post this here because I'm sure there a lot of people around here who knew Nick, whether personally or by reputation. Nick had been missing for about 8 months, his body was recently located and I'm sad to say that he is dead. Not much else I can say, his death is still being investigated so no one is entirely sure what happened yet.
Anyone who ever competed seriously at DoD knew who Oxossi was and for anyone who was lucky enough to get to know him it's horrible news.
Here's a news link for anyone who wants it or thinks I'm trolling: http://www.fox2now.com/news/ktvi-body-i ... 2784.story

What a shame, must be really hard on his family for him to simply have gone missing and then find out one day that he just died =[
Hope they find some answers.

Sad news. What the fuck is it with DoD players going missing and getting killed. This is like 3 or 4 of them. We're not that big of a community for fuck's sake.

Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
You might be seeing Ian Gilmore playing on his SC2 account. I don't think his WoW account is active, but he gave Ian his Starcraft account a couple of days before he disappeared.
For the people who are thinking that he was murdered, we don't know for sure what happened yet, but at the moment what seems most likely is that he froze to death in a blizzard during the winter. Again, we don't know for sure yet, but from what I know this seems like the most likely scenario.

Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
I think that most of Nick's friends and family have been preparing for this moment for a while now. Even though I wanted to believe this was just Nick being spontaneous and reaching for something that he wanted, the longer the search dragged on, the more difficult it became to believe that one day he would show up with a story. I can't feel that there's anything good about this news, but at least Nick's family can give up the search and deal with their grief head-on.
Nick was probably the nicest person I've met in the past decade. He talked a lot of shit and never gave someone the disrespect of false courtesy, but when it came time for action you could see just how much he cared about everyone around him. Those that knew him personally should be able to attest to it.
When I think of Nick, I remember him as I met him in Dallas, with a smile on his face and a pink dildo in his hand - ready to create laughter with the next person he met, weary from traveling across states and nations to play video games. I'm not sure if it came easily for him, but I never had a hard time laughing with him.
I remember how he traveled all the way to San Diego to play in a silly DoD tournament thousands of miles away and years after we had stopped playing the game. And how, even though he was suffering from serious back pain, he found time to buy wrestling cards and a ridiculously tiny pink t-shirt for my birthday.
I remember how he would valiantly defend his honor every time I jokingly accused him of cheating against us in a match on Chemille. I was an idiot for that. Nick loved competition and he loved beating other people at games, but it was always fun because he knew that whoever won, they had both tried as hard as they could.
I remember that he played games like no one I had seen before. Mousepad behind his monitor, eyes inches away from his screen. And how fast was he? Nick was talented. Whether you liked him or not, there was never an argument about how good he was. He was fearsome to play against and great to play with. Teams rose and fell with how well he was playing on any given day.
I wish that I had known Nick outside of games and ventrilo, but I didn't. I feel blessed to have known him at all. I hope that if there's a heaven, Nick will be there to greet us all with a smile on his face.

Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
He really was. We talked a lot on real id/steam friends about KU and Mizzou, him going to the latter and me the former. My first "wow" experience was him, Blanton, Aether, and Jake running me through Deadmines. Funny guy, hilariously on-point DoD sense of humor. I think he was part of some of the funnier stuff over the last 4 years, notably the "funny names" thread on gotfrag.scorch- wrote:I wouldn't say I was nick's best friend, or that I knew him better than other people. Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
If anyone is up for contributing to a retrospective article on Nick for the the front page let me know. I'm sure his family would appreciate knowing the impact he had on others, even if it was just a bunch of DoD nerds that he came to know in such a dorky way.
Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
what a tragedy. as many have said, he was one of the funniest guys to be around, and that is truly what will be missed about him. we paired up in my early days and joined rSports together, then the two of us joined x6 together with plans on going to wsvg, and then later on i brought him into JETTY. during that time span, he was one of my all time favorite teammates both in game and out of game. there wasnt a funnier guy to hang out with in vent, and there wasnt anyone with his sort of quickness, aim and reaction time. it was seriously UNREAL to watch him play DoD, and i am very privileged and honored to have been able to play with him as much as i did. I am also grateful that i got a chance to meet him in person at the san diego socal lan. i didnt know from experience, but i had heard stories from others that he was an incredible quake player too. he was just naturally gifted at games, and that comes from having a naturally gifted mind. i dont claim to have known him as well as others amongst the rSports crew, but i played a great deal with him. enough to get to know him pretty well and enough to feel very saddened over this. He is the epitome of why i have loved playing dod and just gaming in general so much. There are so many interesting, funny, and amazing people all around the united states that none of us would have ever gotten a chance to meet or associate with in our lifetimes had it not been for competing in online games, and he was DEFINITELY one of those gems. RIP nick, and sorry to aether purdy ian dan crus scotty and all the rest of those guys who i knew were really close with him.

I didnt know him, but any news like this to the dod community is truly a shame. I hope his family can find out what happen to him and possibly bury what ever remains they find left of him so he can finally be at rest. Truly tragic, and to any who were friends of his or close to him it seems that no matter if you met him in real life or never beyond ventrillo and dod he has obviously made a impact on this community in more ways then one forever.

I remember Ox making me rage in vent, it was one of the few times I lost in it ventrilo when I wasn't play a scrim or a match. I also think I ran into at CPL. He was quite the character from what I remember. Geeze they only found his skull? That's fucking nuts man.
