Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
Ben! How the heck have you been? I was thinking of sending you a surprise Birthday card this year......but I have no idea what your address is lol. I hope you and the wife are well. PS. This is hb-trunks btw.
Sorry to go off topic.

Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
RIP Ox. You were one of the coolest people I came to know through DoD.
Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
well this is just awful news. nick was a cool guy that i spent countless hours bullshitting with while gaming and just taking it easy. while the news of him missing was known to me, i was completely unaware and the la st thought i had is that he would end up being deceased. i wish his friends, online and real, and family my sincere sympathy.

I'm pretty sure all they found was his skull. Hard to tell what exactly happened to him with just that. I think the common consensus is probably some kind of exposure to the elements. He was last seen walking on foot in heavy snow.unpro wrote:was there ever any info about how he died?
Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
true, i just never heard or saw anything else about it and was curious to know if they discovered anything else.

Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
What the fuck man! This really bums me out.
Must've spent hundreds of hours chatting in #hbpriv, on vent, and in-game with Nick back in the day. Like josh said, he could be a bit much sometimes, but what hb guy couldn't?
Here's a pic of the first time we met IRL back in 2004: http://dod.docano.com/cpl/2004.summer/day1-nick-doc.jpg
That's the goofy ass, fun dude I remember. I think I actually ran into him by chance on a DoD pub a year or two ago. He hadn't changed. Still a sharp gamer with the flair for having fun in any situation.
One particular match I remember with him was on merderet. We (Highball) were Allies playing God knows who, God know when. Tellah and Chosen were respawning. DarkHorse (or marshall? or that kid that was loud-mouthed and started the hb- script thread on the old 1911 forum?) was in the loft, holding it down like only that dude could do. I dunno who our sixth was, but whoever doesn't matter. It was Nick and me on the Axis side of the bridge. I had just hopped down from rope house. Nick was already at the Axis second. Then I see one kill of his pop up. Kar (someone dropped it). Then another kar kill. And another. Then a colt. He recaps the flag and pushes a bit farther. Then there's like a 5 sec pause before I see a double grenade kill of his pop up. I think he killed one more guy before dying short of their last flag. As I finished off the last 2 or 3 guys and capped out, he just sort of chuckled on Vent at all the idiots he had just taken out. Note that he didn't say anything. He just chuckled. He knew what he had done. We knew it. Nothing needed to be said.
That's something that's stuck with me. For all his shit-talking, antagonizing, blah blah, he played to have fun man. If he won, cool. If he died a lot, cool. If we lost, oh well that's still cool--he'd just have his fun through shit-talking the people that had proned us everywhere or whatever. And he never meant any genuine harm by what he said. That was just his style of "good humor."
I dug Nick. I still miss killing time with him, josh, Mr. Beasley, Chosen, marshall, Steve, Cyan, etc etc. My DoD years were at minimum unproductive and at worst a complete waste of time, but characters like Nick made the experience worthwhile for me.
RIP Nick, miss ya man.

R.I.P
Didn't know him too well at all, but from reading this thread it seems he was a great guy and great fragger.
Also i remember playing against him when he was on CSB . Chechnyan Sex Bombs
Heres a quote from cal news "The CAL-im team Chechnyan Sex Bombs have gone through an entire roster revamp over the past days. With the newest additions to the roster, Nick "The DoD legend oxossi" Coppola, and Jeff "deadbeat" Hunter."

goddamnit Oxossi died? What the hell man, Nick was a cool dude. Someone said "he could be a little much sometimes" that may have been understated, but I genuinely liked him.

Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
holy shit, this is crazy. I can't believe i'm just now hearing about this. Nick was such a nice guy and a lot of fun to hang out with. The CPL i played with TEC, nick and I were on the same team, i was like 15 at the time so my mom drove me halfway to dallas and nick and tkz picked me up, instead of shaking hands....nick bear hugged me and was nothing but nice to my mom, of course when we got in the car nick and tkz started the mom jokes ^_^ We had such an awesome time at that CPL. I'm going to miss that guy.....damn it
Re: R.I.P. Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
it's been awhile since nick first went missing and I still have him in my thoughts all the time. part of me really can't even accept the fact that i'll never speak with my friend again... I was hoping he would just turn up one day laughing at all of us getting so worked up over him. the whole thing is just so fucked up and depressing.. the kind of thing you never really get over just something you have to deal with and accept..
No one was safe around Nick, everything was fare game but behind all the joking and ytmd's nick was a very genuine person with a really good heart and infectious laugh that wanted to share all his ridiculous sense of humour with everyone else.
Nick really was one of the best guys i've ever played with. watching him playing dod or cs or quake 3 it all just looked so fluid like it all came naturally to him I'll always remember watching him in first person during scrims and just being amazed how well he played.
Nick's just one of those guys you never forget... He left a lot of friends and family behind that really loved and cared for him and will be missed beyond measure.

You were older than that at the BYOB which was at least 1 year prior to the ones which featured dod officially. btw, how are you Mitch?Beas wrote:holy shit, this is crazy. Re: RIP Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
I played so many games with Nick it's hard to even count. I'll never forget taking him to a sex store around the (surprisingly huge) gay district in Long Beach with Ian to buy one of his many infamous LAN dildos. He was clutching a Bible he found in my car the entire time. He also wore a White Power t-shirt, but I think that was the following day. Nick always knew how to clearly define the line, then deliberately step over it. For this, I think everyone loved him. He was about the only guy I would talk to regularly after I stopped playing games- he was just a great guy and a good friend.
Re: RIP Nick "Oxossi" Coppola
This is absolutely terrible and I am extremely sorry to hear it. Condolences to his family. Not to sound insensitive, but is there another link anywhere about this? I just want to read about what happened. R.I.P. ox.
Never mind. google searched it. Very sad.
