Awesome. I actually think it would make more sense to go with standard 501c3 after taking a closer look at the codes, as I also think it would be nice if we tried to fundraise some money for a small fund in memory of Oxossi. I'l definitely be hitting you up for advise.

Just checked my e-mail here at work and I do have all of the e-mails / contacts and what-not from when I set the LAN up. Granted they are dated and those people might not be around anymore.. but at least who know who was willing to work with me and who wasn't. I know I got sponsorships from Hurricane Host, AMD, Steel Series, ThermalTake, and a couple other vent/server companies. If you want, shoot me a pm with your e-mail... or maybe a time we can talk tonight?

p.s to what mogers said about using that old KY site he had setup, i think it would be a solid idea. maybe somehow figure out a system to have people signed up on there and say whether or not they're prepaid so we can start getting an idea of who would come (obviously this is for more down the road purpose once the details are worked out and the LAN is even for sure happening). I just feel like having a site up that looks organized and whatnot would make it a little easier for everyones piece of mind and think "ok maybe this isn't just some unorganized bullshit thing that half these people wont even show up to". at least i would.

yeah exactly trevor... deloitte touche got the majority of clients from andersen... nowadays its deloitte, pwc, erns&youngterco and kpmg - Sarbanex-Osxley act was brough up mainly because that Enron Scandal!

Haha, I think you guys underestimate the scale of what I'm trying to pull off here.

If we go through with trying to organize a larger event, this will be the full deal. Think mini-cpl, just for DoD. A full website will all be up and running long before the LAN ever takes place. This is at least a year down the road.

The first step for me right now is converting 1911 into a non-profit organization so that we can take on tax-free donations. This would be an expensive event, and would take quite some time to fundraise. This would be a totally different kind of a event than the DoD community has ever put on before.

i havent read any of the responses, but i would love for another lan to happen. i would obviously like for it to happen in socal, since i'm here, but i am willing to fly anywhere in the US that i feel is worth visiting. now that i have a decent job, i will definitely have the money to do that. but i dont want to fly to some place like KY for a lan.. i want to fly to new york, chicago, florida... something that is worth visiting if there wasnt even a dod lan going on. i've been to kentucky for a cs lan and i wanted to poke my eyes out with a fork.

also, next year sounds way too long. i dont want to be a downer but i feel like we wont be able to hold this kind of momentum and support for a year and 2 months until dec 28th of 2012. that, and i also get really excited to hear stuff like this and just dont want to wait that long! lol. i would much rather have a lan way sooner than that, even if it means a little less support from sponsors. noone is in it for the prize money, so holding out 6+ months for a bigger prize pool doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

i also feel like there is a big benefit of having a lan event in socal because we could very likely get the support of Payam and the TOG lan center, who both have a long history of supporting the dod community and our tournaments. it isnt out of the question that if we do a good job of getting people to pre-pay, and help fundraise some of our own money outside of the registration fee, that Payam will be willing to help out in some ways. and cmon.. half of dod players live in kentucky or knoxville or butt fuck idaho... if they haven't already been to california, it would be a great opportunity to have a lan in a great place.

i will pre-pay, i will fly across the US to a decent location (something that offers a more to do and see outside of the tournament itself), and even donate a little money to help the cause. i just prefer to have it sooner than a year and 2 months away.

Maybe Payam himself would be willing to help? I'm not sure what he is doing lately as far as his business, but the guy was wealthy. If there is any way he can benefit from it, he will help us. Advertising is advertising. Not to mention, there is a histor with him and the dod community, so he may be willing to help just because of that reason. This is just pure speculation, but it doesnt hurt for someone like Jason or Dyelife to get in contact with him, since we are contacting everyone on the planet about this right now anyways.

But unpro's post just go me thinking. I know it's something that we can't control but I just really wanna put this out there and see if anyone has any thoughts/comments/solutions.

One major factor in getting players to commit was having COMPLETE TEAMS. It's the wishy-washy nature of the people who play this game and the teams they play on. One minute they're on a team..then they get a "better" offer because the elite team of the time's 6th had to drop out due to some bs...so they immediately jump to the opportunity to play on a team that has a chance to win..Then the team he left has a hard time fielding a 6th at the last minute..that team dies and we lose 4 or 5 players..or we lose players who give up before the lan even starts because they think they don't have a chance at winning because of the few STACKED teams that usually win etc etc etc...Whatever the reason is, team hopping and team killing always results into at least 10-15 players not showing that were originally going to show...I think you get the point I'm trying to make.

I've always wanted to do a DoD draft lan...I think at this point since a lot of randoms and old players are coming back..and there aren't many complete teams..Why not do a draft?

Have the community vote on X amount of captains and do it like a fantasy football style draft. Where the last capt to pick gets to be the 1st capt to pick 2nd round. So on and so forth. I think it would definitely encourage a broader appeal and help eliminate the fear of people not wanting to go because they weren't picked up or wanted by any "good" teams.

Just my two cents.

Also $350 for vegas is nice. But you gotta throw in the cost of food and shit..(Unless you already did..I skimmed over it )

A dod draft lan is possible if were going to be in vegas for three fucking days. I actually prefer the draft idea, I wanted to do a lan so we can all hang out together for one last time. I don't want clicks to stick together and I will love it when people who hate eachother are on the same time (I still smile thinking about specops and e`man sitting next to eachother at the ky lan)

I just can't see the dod draft lan being realistic because there are going to be those two teams that want to win it all and I understand. I wouldn't mind winning one fucking lan, I've been in 2nd and 3rd place in so many that its annoying =/

I'd be willing to go to that, as well as pick up any other SoCal players and drive them out there.

As far as what kind of tournament goes, I certainly think the draft is the best way to go. This completely eliminates the possibility of teams dying due to one or two people not being able to make it for whatever reason (I'm thinking me and the last SoCal lan) Not to mention I think it would appeal more to the social aspect of this LAN, which is a big reason that I'd be doing it.

Hopefully we'll be able to dig up a bunch of the old players, but I really have no idea how to get in contact with anyone. Maybe someone can dig up a list of emails from some old website. I want to see Todo there so I can finally reimburse him for the CEVO registration that he paid for

Ricky, Joey, and I will be in the weight room then hitting the buffet to take the greatest advantage of the post-workout anabolic window.

Sears will be maxing out on the box squat for 225.

Airnick15 will be at Planet Fitness.

Josh Brown will skip the workout but still hit the buffet with a vengeance.

Do people actually like the idea of a draft LAN? Are that many people going to skip because they can't win the thing? Making it a draft would make me not want to go. I'd rather play with the people I want to then randomly get put on a team with the 5 people most likely to win. At both x3o and w2z, I had a blast simply because of the people on my team, not any ambition to win any money.

I think drafts are a bad idea for trying to plan a LAN. In ramping up for a potential lan, we want people participating in the game again, and getting a team together to play with at the LAN.

This is pretty much the most exciting part of this for me, is realy having a decent reason to get into playing this game again. Wouldn't be there for a draft.

I'm not someone who would win money at something like this. It's just nice to have something to actually play for. I'm going to be playing with the same people but we'll actually have a reason to scrim together.

i think theres a lot of advantages in taking plenty of time to plan this. if we do this lan, say in the next few months, youre not going to bring back that many old players that arent playing now already. and i think giving more time would allow more teams to form, especially if the older players come back, and play together over the next year. if the goal is to have a big send off, then having the build up to something like this to make sure everything is in order is a smart idea.

as sears and some others mentioned before, i dont think having one or two small lans is out of the question either. i just think going all out would be something really amazing for this game, so if we could do it, i think we should try.
