I'm not someone who would win money at something like this. It's just nice to have something to actually play for. I'm going to be playing with the same people but we'll actually have a reason to scrim together.

Agreed. I don't see myself winning money in this game anymore even if I did play with patten and cableguy, i can't hack it. Its just nice to play with people you enjoy and not be thrown together with a bunch of people "to even out the teams".

where i work we see a physician who does a very in-depth physical examination every year.
There are three tiers that you can place in after the examination- if you are placed into tier 3 in any test he does not clear you fit for suppression.
Off the top of my head the tests included are:
A blood. urine, and subcutaneous test: CBC, HNH. cholesterol, ck, hepatitis, ppd, alt, ggt, trop, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol. TSH, yrea, uric acid, creatinine, kactate, pyruvate, venus glucose, iGe allergy test, ESR, PT, pit. TCT, INR. WBC, Lead, etc. ( i dont know off the top of my head what values place you into what tier)

A hand strength test
A stretch test
a vo2 max test
a 12-lead PASS/FAIL
a 12-lead while completing the vo2 max PASS/FAIL
a x-ray on lungs PASS/FAIL
40 push ups PASS/FAIL
10 pull ups PASS/FAIL
40 sit ups PASS/FAIL
bp
pox
ear test
eye test PASS/FAIL
color test PASS/FAIL
psyc test PASS/FAIL
prostate exam PASS/FAIL
5 panel drug screen PASS/FAIL
a body fat less than 21 for tier 1 and less than 28 for teir 2

anyways- I have been in tier 1 the entirety of my career. I also have been utilizing crossfit workouts as my general workout program. i feel it has a good balance of strength and cardio conditioning that i need.
as far as paleo goes, i did try it and seemed to gain too much weight- i normally eat 5 healthy portions of food a day around 3000 calories. the biggest portions i eat are during the AM and the smallest are during the PM making sure i do not consume anything over 7 pm. i also try to ween off the carbs as the day goes. i also drink a gallon of water mixed with a large powerdrink a day.
i do enjoy beverages every now and then and to clear a hang over i give myself 1 liter of lactated ringers and 2-3 liters of .9% sodium chloride titrating to effect.

you can say what you want about my program but i have personalized it to what works best for me. and it works.

Whatever works for you, brah.

Nothing wrong with eating after 7 pm, brah.
i also try to ween off the carbs as the day goes.
No benefit to doing this, brah.

Whatever works for you, brah. I'd just say you're too particular over things that yield no added benefit. Not eating after 7 pm? Weening carbs? 5 meals per day? None of this gives you a metabolic edge. If it works for you, more power to you. But if you do it because you believe it has some added physiological benefit, then I promise you that ain't the case.

If numbers are a concern, you can always reach out to the less competitive part of the community as well. Can't remember what pub it was, but they were talking how they all got together for a LAN one year. I think it was either DEX or BIO. If anything it will get numbers up while providing them a nice venue with the added benefit of some friendly tourney play. Not to mention a nice mini-vacation at an amazing price.

My apologies if this has been brought up. Only had a few minutes to skim the post on my phone.

Swiss wrote:i am definitely down for the second option if that is possible. i think looking at the second option first is really smart because then we would have plenty of planning already done for a smaller regional lan. having the pdxlan with their sponsors involved sounds awesome. i also REALLY like the idea of pursuing the help of valve, especially if this is in many senses a "sending off party" for dod (and they must have a room full of spare cash from selling tf2 hats?!?!).

i think its definitely possible that austin would work, especially since i have some contacts with dell, which is one of the "grassroots" tech companies from austin and they sponsor alot of local tech events = possible solution to the computer problems. thats something i could look into. (and like i said before, austin is COMLETELY different than dallas; its known as the live music capital of the world.) so i think it should at least be considered.

BUT i still like the las vegas idea alot, sears. that really is a great deal especially when you look at the "Airfare from anywhere in the continental U.S." working through a travel agent is going to help this process alot.

that was a good point about the HLTV for the finals match. there were ~76 in the hltv (and then you add on the two teams playing, 88 LOL). im definitely not going to say that the number of people in hltv is any realistic number of people who would come to a lan like this. its a stretch but thats AT LEAST a small indicator of the amount of people that care enough about this game to sit and watch other people play for 40 minutes. dod has changed alot in the past couple years in terms of activity despite the fact that theres still a good number of the old players who havent come back. the growth in activity the past couple of years has come from a good number of people who were new to the competitive community.

tenks, i was also thinking the same thing. i think some of the newer players/teams might be turned off to come to something like this if (1) they feel they have no chance to win (2) theyre coming to meet people theyve never known (online or IRL) (3) theres naturally going to be clicks of people.

downside of the draft would be people that naturally wanted to come because they wanted to play with old teammates or win the thing. id think bringing back old teams together is part of the nostalgia, along with just seeing old friends (correct me if im wrong). were already doing a second draft tourny online right now (dont know if you saw) so were figuring out the best way to do something like that

had no idea the community was doing drafts already, that's rad. I feel dumb now ha...

and yea playing with friends is a huge draw but most of the older community at this point are all friends anyway and likely to play with any one another

This community is small enough that everybody who has been around a long time know pretty much everybody else - for good and bad. I know who I'd want to hang out with after flying across the country, jokester! And I also know that if I ended up on a team with 5 people I dislike, I'd be more inclined to just say "well, nevermind."

Third quote...still hurt from your first comment, Matt. And as Tommy Lee Jones proved, those things are very unreliable.

I like a draft idea or 12 man idea. Honestly people back out when they hear that one or two players on their team might not go. It would probably be much more beneficial to go to a LAN where the teams are made on the spot like a draft or a random assigning. Not to mention I don't want to have to play against DRUGS or THUNDER anyway, I would much rather play for fun with a little bit of competition than play like a try hard for a month before going to the LAN just to win a small purse.

Who honestly cares if their is any money for the LAN. Aren't we all old enough where $100 (when we spent around $300-400 to get there) means nothing to us?

Which is why i'd rather make a team of people I want to play with rather than get put on a team with somebody who expects to win. Then when they lose, they become a whiny bitch and blame people for losing. Fun, right? I guess I just don't see the appeal to spending $400 to go play a giant 12man.
